I find it interesting that there seem to be more XJWs here that were helped on their way out by becoming parents, rather than the other way 'round.Good observation. Maybe the WTS is on to something. Maybe they know this, too, and that's why they encourage young couples to go into the ministry rather than start a family.

Did having children make you a better or worse JW
by journey-on inafter i had children, i changed gradually in the way i thought about the religion i was raised in.
one day, it dawned on me that if my child was injured in an accident and needed blood to survive, there was no way in the world i would say "no" to a blood transfusion.
why continue the charade?

Being honest with yourself, could you have reasonably adjusted your attitude and continued on as a JW?
by miseryloveselders ini ask this question in harmony with deedub's swan song thread which i linked below.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/members/private/205902/1/time-to-say-good-bye.
to some degree, i think i understand where she's coming from.
just speaking from my own experiences since stepping into the world of anonymous apostacy, i went through a few different phases of personal outlooks.

A few years ago, I had a period of about a year, where I got all warm and fuzzy thinking about the tight knittedness of the witnesses and reminescing about some of the people, the comfortable routine of it all, and the security that comes with being part of a group that you've known for so long. I let an elderly sister talk me into attending a few meetings, thinking I could play the part. It didn't last. As I looked around the hall at the faces one Sunday, it felt like The Stepford Wives. They looked foreign to me in a way that's hard to describe. I just knew it was wrong to be there because the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society of Jehovah's Witnesses is wrong. I knew it and felt like a dog returning to its vomit. I don't want to use the word evil to describe it, but cultish and unspiritual may come close. The real Divine is not there.

All interesting perspectives. Thanks for the input. Children change you.....or at least they did me. I was an extremely young mother....still a teenager actually....so my own childhood was still fresh in my mind. Although I had loving but strict JW parents, I wanted my own children to be more free-spirited and open to question everything. I wanted them to experience Life less narrowly than I had been allowed to do. Something told me even while my first was just a tiny "seedling" in my womb that the religion I was raised in would suppress and repress the gift I so wanted to give my child. As I think back, the inner struggle to release myself from the borg probably began with my first child's kick in my gut. :-)

Evenin', mrsjones5. That thread was 7 hrs. ago! Sorry it was a source of angst for you. These kinds of topics are definitely "hot button" and if they disturb you, it's best not to even open them. Enjoy the rest of your evening......(remember, you are loved).....journey-on

Is Deporting Illegal Immigrants The Answer To American's Economic Woe? What Do You Think?
by Scott77 in"... deporting the millions of illegal aliens in the united states will cost trillions and will make this country bankrupt; the beginning of slippery slope that eventually will destroy our country the working immigrants is part of the backbone of our country and they have always been and will always be.. i guess, you are blind to the myriad of studies concluding that immigrants benefits our culture and economy.
a study was released by the center for american progress (cap) that establishes that the enforcement-only approach these restrictionist groups ad-nauseam advocate isnt sustainable in the long-term.
the study estimates that a strategy aimed at deporting the nations population of illegal immigrants would cost the government approximately $285 billion over five years.

Scott, I don't think it's that nobody is interested in this topic. It is just that it is so very complicated that it's hard to give a definitive answer. I have read so many articles, blogs, listened to pundits, etc. ad nauseum on immigration, it has become difficult to sort through it all. Some say they are a drain on our system. I know people that work at the county hospital that claim illegals are bankrupting our healthcare facilities. I am in a business that uses vendors that claim they could not operate without their skills and cheap labor.
I'm for keeping illegals out of this country however we need to do it. Those that are already here and working need to be dealt with. I'm not sure deportation is the answer. I just don't know. Really, you can't trust the biased "research" studies. And what about those who have abided by the law and have followed proper immigration procedures? Where is the fairness in fast-tracking illegals? It's a real conundrum.

Talk about fantasizing, beks. What is this with you seeing Hillary_Step in every new poster! This isn't the first one you've accused of being that particular LL. (I think you did that to Villabolo, too, when he first started posting.)

it's pure and simple about a way to make abortions nearly impossible even if they are legal.
B*llsh*t. And you know it.
Look....Don't you people contribute $$$$$$$$$$ to your favorite charities? There are literally dozens of organizations that support abortions for people that can't pay for them. Why don't you whiney ass cry babies dip into your own pockets and support these charitable groups that want to help these women get their abortions....some of them over and over and over and over again!!!!
Typical liberal lefty loonies: You want everybody else to pay for these killings with our tax dollars. You are nothing but a bunch of control freaks that want to tell the whole country what to think and what we must do. NO! I will not give one red dime in support of abortion.
