I just can't make this about partisan politics tonight! I'm too thrilled with this news (although like Bizzy, celebrating another human being's death seems a bit callous). I'm simply proud of our country, and for now, at this moment, proud of the way our president announced this news.

I liked his announcement. He did not take credit for it all. He praised all those who have tirelessly worked to bring this to fruition. I feel proud of him tonight. He even said "one nation under God"!!! That kind of shocked me.

On one occasion I happened to be walking by her as she and three Sisters where in field service. I not only startled her but she reflexively raised her arm to her purse. That is a giveaway for armed women who are not in uniform (Their gun is in their purse not their hips).Again, seriously....this woman was a Jehovah's Witness? Does anybody else find that unbelievable?

i was in the supermarket doing an early morning shop when i see an old friend of the family, a jw sister.. she asked me if i'd gone to the memorial and i told her no.
she said that the end is so close what with all the earthquakes and brother truthseeker, you need to come back to jehovah otherwise you will die and so will your children.
JWs have absolutely no social grace whatsoever! They are hopeless and living in fear everyday. I know exactly what they are thinking everytime there is a major natural disaster. They are scared and happy at the same time. When I was in it, Armageddon was the first thing I thought of when something horrible was happening somewhere in the world. That old family friend of yours is to be pitied.
When I finally decided I would rather die at Armageddon and lose whatever chance I might have of living in The New World rather than give THIS life I have NOW and the childhood of my kids over to an organization of men full of judgement, condemnation, rules, changing doctrine, dangerous doctrine, my fear and anxiety about it left me. I'll take my chances, thank you very much. Bring it on!
i was recently talking to an ex witness whose elderly parents, and in law parents, are still witnesses.. as shocking and incomprehensible as it may seem to both sets of parents, this ex witness believes that, just like every other human throughout human history, they are going to die.
now this ex witness has expressed to me that he won't ever step foot in a kingdom hall again.. he is in a dillemma as to what to do about their funerals.
he does not want to attend any service held at the kingdom hall as the service will be heavily controlled by the seven members of the governing body that reside in brooklyn and who don't know his parents at all.. he is quite willing to stand outside the hall, or attend the crematorium or gravesite or funeral home and also any wake that takes place afterwards as people are more free to express themselves in a less formal setting.
At my JW mother's funeral, my df'd brothers were there and sat with the rest of us. They were discreet and respectful of the JW b*llsh*t rules about talking to them. However, after the service, one of the older sisters we have known from childhood walked up to me and my brother while we were standing together talking. She began hugging us and offering her condolences. She must have forgotten that my brother had been df'd for years. Suddenly, another sister came up to her and whispered something in her ear. She got the stupidest most vile look on her face and literally backed away in horror as if she had just been exposed to poison. My poor brother just stood there looking around trying to figure out what he was supposed to do. They are pathetic people, imo.

Oh, boy! Funerals and weddings are THE most stressful when it comes to the JW "rules" of engagement. I could tell you some stories that would just make you sick, but if any of my family are lurking....well, you know. (Sorry, I have no good advice.)
