.....bringing someone into the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses? Personally, I had several Bible studies, but thankfully, never got any of them all the way to baptism. My conscience is clear.

by dontplaceliterature inmy wife and i just visited some friends over the weekend from another congregation.
these two are both full time pioneers, and also participate in various construction projects around the country.

I wonder if some poor backwater JW family that has put their "widow's mite" in the contribution box for years could just show up at the door and ask to use the facilities for a few days if they would be allowed. Bring your own golf clubs, btw.

Children thinking about baptism, should at least be given some caveats to consider. These should be read right after the baptismal instructions and questions. They should be told (and perhaps be given some examples) of what can happen later should they change their minds or should they break the rules required by the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses.
For instance:
"Little Robbie, even though you're only 9 yrs. old, do you understand that if you succumb to a brief period of rebelliousness around the age of 15 or 16 and display an attitude unbecoming a Christian, you can and will be disfellowshipped and your mother, father, sisters, brothers, friends, grandparents, and any other Jehovah's Witness will have to treat you like a leper. If you are a bit older and out on your own already, they will treat you with bitter disdain, shame you, and possibly make you totally invisible to them."
Little Robbie: "What does 'succumb' mean? What is a leper? What is disdain? Oooh! Invisible?!!...like a super power?" Children.

In any other religion, I would say "no big deal" as to the age.
However, with Jehovah's Witnesses, baptism is more of a contract and a signing away your right to think and choose for yourself. I was baptised at the age of 12, but it was in the good old days before the WTS included that little phrase that locked you into their cult organized religion. My baptism was in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, since their conditions of baptism have all the ramifications of a contract, you should be at least 18, imo. And, regardless of what others have said about legal recourse, I think you would definitely have a case against them, but would have to find a very very brave and savvy attorney that is able to think outside the box.
Times are changing, and it's time someone stood up for children that make promises or enter a "contract" that they may not have the ability to keep. Losing their entire family for such a mistake is unconscionable.
In my own family, my brother (who was child baptised) got abandoned and shunned by some family members when he got df'd at the age of 17. It devastated him. Another family member raised in it by uber theocratic parents but never baptised (although coerced) is still included in family fun and is shown love and respect.

Thanks for your input, Inkie. I guess what I'm looking for is a discussion on the esoteric meaning behind the symbology.

Does anyone know what the Watchtower's corporate ladder would be like?
by dgp ini was wondering if anyone knows how a brother would make his way up to the governing body.
in my (worldly) opinion, there has to be something like a corporate ladder to climb.
does anyone know what the "procedure" would be?.

Would, say, Brother Faisal, who endures every possible kind of persecution in Indonesia, really be able to lead the Watchtower someday?
Of course not.....LOL! It seems that it is basically an American religion that spread. Only English speaking witnesses are allowed, it seems, to climb the corporate ladder. -

Inkie...So, Jesus is all three?...the shepherd, the door, AND the doorkeeper. Maybe I'm seeing something cryptical that's not really meant to be. You're saying his first explanation was vague or inadequate, so he had to repeat it more clearly. That seems a rather odd thing to include in scripture.

We have the shepherd that enters through the door. If the door is Jaheshua, who is the shepherd? Also, the doorkeeper is the one that opens the door to the shepherd, so who is the doorkeeper?

JWs blur the lines.....what is the difference in brainwashing and "inculcating"?
by journey-on ini have been thinking about no room for george and his returning to the vomit kingdom hall.
(miz, do what you need to do to get mentally healthy.
i am particularly thinking about someone close to me, as well, and her severe fanatical attachment to the organization.

it's sometimes seems amazing how so many broke away
That it does!
I wish I had a good way to explain how Deut 6: 4-9 is not applicable to the WTS' methods. Or, is it the same thing? I see the scripture as a message to teach your children right principles and how to apply them in one's daily life.
I see the WTS methods as harsh and controlling, one that uses REAL psychological manipulation tools to brainwash, condition, and program their followers to be drones for a publishing, real estate, and investment corp. without asking too many questions or demanding a more nourishing spiritual feast.
