Also, it wouldn't hurt if a New York Times best-selling book was promoted to give it some additional credibility. Throw in an appearance or two on "The View", an interview with some big-name media personality, an Oprah Winfrey show about his "spiritual" experience, and you have the makings of something believable and embraceable.

Think of it this way: What if Osama Bin Laden had stared teaching christian doctrine that was sounding wonky? What if Bin Laden had claimed he had received a blinding light from heaven telling him to teach this NEW DOCTRINE?
Would anybody ACTUALLY think he was sincere and not merely engaging in disengenuous disinformation?
I guarantee there would be a few that would buy it. Then with the right PR and marketing, the right people supporting it and giving "testimonies", and a good mission statement and organizational structure...voila! A new religion is born and on the move. -

Went to my first meeting today anonymously!
by TimothyT inhi everyone.. jack and i decided we would go to his local kingdom hall this morning.
although i have no interest anymore in being a jw, i think its still nice to have regular bible discussions, etc, which can give you something spiritual to think about each week.
i love it and i think its damn good for you.. today, jack and i walked in, a little nervous, but were greeted and welcomed like friends.

Hi, Jack and Tim....Just as an experiment, go back next week. At the end of the meeting, pick one of the elder's wives. Pick the friendliest, most welcoming one. Take her aside and ask her if you may talk to her confidentially. Then tell her that everyone is soooo loving and kind, and that last week you were hesitant to reveal that you are both gay, but now you think you have found a real spiritual "home". It won't be ten minutes after you leave, that she will gossip to the entire congregation.
After that conversation, see what true colors they're made of.

Finding peace
by Nickolas inthis is for those of you who are familiar with my periodic rants about being married to a jehovah's witness.
you won't be seeing any more of them.. my wife and i were up before dawn on friday and spent the entire day on our boat, trolling 10 miles from shore and talking.
we talked about our lives together, the ground we've covered in the 40 years since we met as university freshmen.

So beautifully expressed, Nickolas. My mother and daddy were married over fifty years and she always told me that a happy marriage is 99% a willingness to compromise (on both sides). I'm glad you and your wife found the way to make things better. May the remainder of your years together be the best yet!

Good for you, FWT! Don't you wish you had every dime you ever gave the WTS back so you could donate it to REAL charitable causes? The situation in Somalia is heart-breaking. I just hope corruption, greed, and politics don't get in the way of getting real help to them.

JEHU Champions Pure Worship - Watchtower 11/15/2011
by wannabefree ini picked what i thought were highlights of the article.
harsh words used to describe jehu's actions ... likened to how elders should be in eliminating threats in the congregation and how all should treat the disfellowshipped.. jehu champions pure worship - watchtower 11/15/2011.
jehu was a champion of pure worship.

They're running scared. They must be losing people by the droves. If they think articles like this are going to put a tighter hold on them, I would bet it will have just the opposite effect.

Holy Laws of God VERSUS Ordinances of the Governing Body.
by shechaiyah inif the gb are so obsessed with personal and interpersonal behavior, why aren't they looking to holy law, to set their priorities?.

shechaiyah...there are some fairly interesting discussion forums on metaphysics. Your personal meet up group sounds interesting, and it's something I think I personally would enjoy, but, alas, I live nowhere near San Jose, or Cali for that matter. I know how you feel, though, when you are hungry for REAL spiritual food and someone to share it with.

Okay, so WHY is the governing body obsessed with personal and impersonal behavior, separate and different from the Laws of Jehovah?
I have a theory. They do believe that Jesus fulfilled the Law. So implementing the Old Law rules is out. But, they also know that the Old Law worked to keep the people dependent and living in fear.
The one thing the Old Law did was show the people how worthless, low, inadequate, helpless, and dependent they truly were. They had so many rules and regulations and sacrificial rituals and festivals that their whole Life was spent in a condition of doubt, fear, and dejection. (Read: meetings, field service, personal study, Bible studies, circuit assemblies, district conventions, preparation of talks, etc. etc. etc., not to mention the sacrifice of your friends and family when they fail to live up to WTS "laws".)
The GB pursue doctrines based on their ability to instill the same kind of fear and dependence the people under the Old Law endured. It worked then, so they figure it will work now. And it does.
Christ's burden is light and simple: Love God your father with your whole heart, soul, strength, and mind. And, love your neighbor as yourself.

He calls himself a "slave to Christ."
That "he" is a "she" and she calls herself a slave OF Christ, not TO Christ. Get to know AGuest, Shech. She'll give you a run for your money.
