The winds of change can bring new viewpoints. Our laws and societal and cultural views change periodically. Someday.......someday....our vantage point may change. There are young people being damaged psychologically by this religion.
Finally, that crazy Warren Jeffs case might bring more light to what fringe cultish religions do to women and children, especially children.
BOTR: I would still like to hear your personal feedback on the above.

BOTR...Thanks for your insight, but consider this scenario and give me your opinion: (I have highlighted some words that might find legal relevance.)
What about the born-in witness indoctrinated since birth, programmed to react, to accept, to cling to, every word and mandate coming out of the mouths of the men in New York. Any deviation results in loss of privileges, public reproof (humiliation), parental shame, guilt-laden lectures (judicial committees), etc.
That child gets baptized at the age of 10 or 12 with the encouragement (coercion) of his/her parents and congregation. That is a contract. Just read the baptismal questions and explanations. It is a contract making you a JW and accepting that you recognize your end of the contract as being under their rules and regulations. In my day, we didn't have that 'little addition', thank goodness. I was a mere 12 years old. My contract was between me and God. Now the organization is brought into the act of baptism. Isn't there some law that states children cannot enter into legal and binding contracts?
Now, fast forward that 10 or 12 year old five years. He/she gets a little excited and looses control and commits fornication with the opposite sex. We all know that once a teen starts having sex, it will continue. There is generally no turning back the call of nature once you've started the activity. So, mom and dad find out. The sh*t hits the fan. Elders are brought in. JC is convened. Kid promises to work at overcoming his/her "evil desires". No such luck. It happens again and again. Now he/she is disfellowshipped. It is announced before the whole world (his congregation and circle of friends).
His parents kick him out of the house because he grows hurt, angry, rebellious. He has no where to turn. He has lost the safety net of his friends, his social circle, his family, and especially his parents. He may spiral downward, get depressed, turn to drugs or alcohol, drop out of school (or not), but I have known someone that the above happened to. IMO, there should be legal redress.
Let me add: I, for one, am sick and damn tired of things that are done to kids and teens mentally, emotionally, and psychologically in the name of this religion. THERE SHOULD BE A LAW!

Getting rid of the Book Study - a way to isolate the JW?
by skeeter1 inthe book study meeting was cancelled a while back.
the watch tower said that it was to provide for a family study night and high gas costs.
hmmm.. i thought about the cancellation of the book study meeting after listening to another pastor discus his mega-churchs dependence on small circle groups.

Oh my goodness, NRFGeorge....I'm still laughing at your childhood memories.
Mine are warm and fuzzy. As a kid, the study conductor assigned each of us kids something for the following week. Sometimes, he told us which scripture he was going to ask us to read. As a six or seven year old, that was a big deal, and we would read and re-read that scripture and wait with anticipation to be called upon to read it. Also, the book study was where I learned to recite all the books of the bible in order.
I think the discontinuation of the book study was probably due to lawsuits against property owners, the pedophile issue, the headquarter's inability to keep control over extemporaneous discussions within a small friendly open venue, and lack of any good rich spiritual food to study. Wasn't the last book they studied something they studied before like two times?

Alienation of affection?
by Snoozy ini wonder if the jw's leaders can be sued when they disfellowship someone in a family and then the family shuns them?
after all the jw leaders are the sole cause of a loved one getting the shaft from their family members..right?...
isn't that what "alienation of affection means?

I remember we had a discussion about this on the board a few years ago. It seemed reasonable to me, too, that this action could be charged against the WTS. I think someone here with legal background pooh-poohed the idea. I don't remember, however, on what grounds. It still seemed reasonable to me, especially if a born/raised-in person brought the suit. They had no choice, whereas, an adult making the decision to become a JW would know and understand the consequences of their decision.

Testing, testing, testing.....Jehovah TESTS?
by Terry ina classroom teacher has to administer tests.
the teacher doesn't know who is learning and who isn't or how much.. a test pilot flys a new jet to determine what strengths and weaknesses correspond to the design because nobody knows how close.
the manufacture of it came to the ideal.. fire drills are a test: can everybody exit in an orderly fashion in a reasonable amount of time in case there is a fire.. if you think you may be pregant you take a pregnancy test because you won't know for sure otherwise (unless you wait 9 months!).

There is a mathematical possibility that all of humanity MAY WELL christianize itself.
This one sentence triggered a thought after I read your post and re-read it the third time. Pardon me if I have misunderstood your intended points of discussion. But, sometimes your posts starts the old brain synapses connecting and there is no stopping them, thank you very much :-)
If God is a sky-daddy type entity (which I do NOT believe), then there is never a time when He could be completely fair (according to man's definition of fair) in His judgment of mankind. 216,000 newborns everyday? There would have to be a complete cessation of births for at least a generation in order to allow individuals to live long enough to accumulate enough Life to be judged.
Then the phrase 'critical mass' came to me. Before God supposedly destroyed the world during Noah's day, he announced, in so many words, that the world had reached a critical mass, a defined threshold that had been crossed toward the side of evil. That is like a point of no return where societal breakdown ensues and continues unabated toward complete darkness, chaos, and evil. He judged the world unworthy of continuation, making reluctant exception but for one righteous individual and his family. His judgment at that time was not toward individual men, but toward the whole of mankind as a species. The world started over, and evidently has never reached that tipping point toward evil again (if you believe the Noah story literally).
Is there ignorance on the part of God that He should need to work out?
Does the Supreme Being lack knowledge? Is deity limited in some manner?
Now, otoh, if you see God as the Consciousness of Love, or the Intelligent Creative Principle of Love, or the Force of Perfect Love, or the Essence of Divine Love-Power-Wisdom-Justice, then you are able to intuit that mankind has work to do toward perfecting this love within ourselves and our species until which time critical mass toward light, peace, and righteousness (right living) is reached. When this threshold is crossed, only then will we see Earth return to its true state of paradise and man living in real peace (Christ Consciousness) with one another.

The idea that we KNOW anything at all??
It all sounds so logical now, doesn't it.
I do know one thing though. As a JW, I was certain the Bible was preserved by Jehovah's Holy Spirit and came down to us 100% intact just exactly the way He intended it to. If God is all powerful, then He certainly had the ability to make sure His word was kept pure.....That's how I thought back then, and I'm sure that's how they still think.

C.O.B.E.Beef....Thanks for sharing your ephiphany with us. Many of us have been where you are right now, at that very stage. Becoming a mother did the same exact thing to me as you describe in your post. The questions, the fears, the doubts, the uncertainty all came together and it set me on a track that changed my whole life. It took a while. When you have been programmed from infancy to just accept the repression, it is truly scary when you look at your beautiful child and "hear" the question: Do you really want to do THAT to this child's life. Take away all the wonderful possibilities?
My one piece of advice: Don't stop praying. I did and it was a mistake. When I finally started again in a new and better way, peace walked with me and showed me what steps were next.
Added: Oh, and WELCOME! Look forward to more posts and hearing about your journey on.
