wolfgirl...HHAAHAHAHAHAH!!!
that is a riot....sigh. That would happen sooner than the other changes.
They would have to become a humanist religion...that ain't gonna happen.
what changes would the wt/jws need to make in order for you to consider returning to them?

I am considering being a pistachio.
What can I say, I am a little nuts.
I think it will be a sHell of a good time.
(I totally stole that line...)
i just got this in email...very funny.
now that we know the real story here is the complete scene from empire strikes back.
a furious lightsaber duel is underway.
I would have loved to see that on Mad TV on Sat night live hahah...
hey there...well...i have mentioned in the past that i had been scoping out churches with a humanist bent in the area.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/9/97855/1.ashx.

anyhoo, i finally made it to the humanist fellowship of north texas this morning.
I think so...=)
specifically ohio university.
how can you be against college and recruit new members there?

Oh my goodness...I guess they just want "the library card" (NGO anyone??)
That is very hypocritical. I knew quite a few kids that actually "found" god in college. There are a lot of bible groups on many colleges. I had a friend that introduced me to one, and they were very good at what they did.

Anyhoo, I finally made it to the Humanist Fellowship of North Texas this morning. They rent a couple of rooms at the Plano UUA church. It was small, but it was really neat.
My husband actually went with me...blow me over with a feather! He really enjoyed it as well. In fact, we went ahead and decided to join. We really liked the "feel" of the meeting, and stayed for the business meeting after the service. They run the church in a very democratic fashion, which is a nice change...at least for me any way hahah. The people who formed this group were members of the North Texas Church Of Freethought, but wanted to run their group a little differently. One thing that impressed me is that they didn't have anything bad at all to say about the NTCoF...I may still visit them once in a while too, but think I would want to be more of a regular member of the HFNT.
Here are the links again, if anyone is interested in either group:
http://www.humanistfellowship.org/ they meet in Plano, TX. Currently they meet once a month, usually the 4th or 5th Saturday of the month. This is a family small church so far, but I hope to help get the word out on it, if you will, so others that are looking for something like this can find it.
http://www.churchoffreethought.org/ they meet in Irving, TX. They have services once a month, and other activities throughou the month too. They are bigger group, I think they have 100 members or so.
Again, from what I have seen I think both groups are good, they are just run a little differently.
I just wanted to share. I am pretty excited...I know a lot of humanists/atheists don't really have a need for a church, but I really miss having a place to go. My husband and I both volunteered too, he is the webmaster and I am the historian (not sure yet what to do there hahah...need to brush up on Robert's Rules, they use that for their business meetings and such.)
my husband and i are planning to make biodiesel for our diesel car.
looks like it will be a hobby for him-- he enjoys chemistry.
we will make a fumeless processor, and put the whole setup in our basement.
as soon as I can find an old diesel mercedes i can afford I will start of with just wvo, and then maybe try biodiesel later...my husband is the chemistry nut in this house.
Let us know how you make out.
after witnessing the aftermath of katrina and what she did to the unprepared evacuees, mozz and i decided it was time to put together our emergency evacuation plan.
we started by simply going to www.redcross.org.
there is a search engine on the top right side of their website and i entered "emergency disaster plan".
Billy, this is something I have been thinking about and working on since Katrina. We usually have plenty of canned food for us, but I need to stock up more on supplies for the ferret.
cyg...I grew up in New England, I hear you on getting buried under snow....blizzard of '78 was a hell of a time to be a kid, but it wasn't so easy for my mom and dad. I never realized how scared they were until years later. They just didn't make a big deal of it.
I can handle hurricanes and blizzards..but tornados and earthquakes...eek. I will never live in California because of earthquakes. At least with tornados you sometimes get some warning.
And speaking of tornados...where can I get a basement in texas??? I always found it crazy you guys all of fireplaces down here but NO basements...we all had basements up north, but only the rich had fireplaces.
I am lucky if I can find socks for kids in the morning...so you can imagine how much more work we need to do on our emergency plan. But, I know where all the kids and husband are at all times, so that does help.
firstly let me say wooohhooooo!
then i think i might say woooooohooooo!.
i got two short stories (flash fiction) published in a creative writing magazine.
YAYAYAYAYA!!!!!
I will have a beer to you!
Good for you...I am so happy for you!
after coming from new orleans to dallas to escape katrina, marla (bubbamar) and dee had taken up temporary residence here in dallas.
but as of yesterday they decided to move to atlanta.
they have some friends to stay with there and a university in georgia has offered them free tuition for the fall semester.
oh bummer...but I wish them the best in Atlanta...
