HUMAN NATURE: what the heck is it REALLY?
by Terry inwe all have a nature.
we are each born different from others in many respects.
our human-ness is conceptually the same, however, as we age our differences become more and more apparent.

How do you feel about people on government assistence?
by free2beme infor a long time, before working with people in this situation, i would have answered this question with .... "i feel for them and i know how degrading it must be, to come to this point in their life to have to depend on the government to sustain them" .
... once i got up close and personal with these people, i have learned that my answer only applies to a small group of those on government assistance.
well from my experience, those on government assistance are more often about taking advantage of the system, then they are about actually being in need of help.

I found myself on assistence for a short period of time back in the 90s. It was a safety net for me, helped me until I got back on my feet. I had some health issues, and lost my job (I don't blame the company...long boring story...)
For most, that is exactly all it should be, a safety net. However, I have seen some abuse it. I lived in a housing project for about 9 months, and most people there were on other assistance besides housing. I knew one lady next to me that had a boyfriend that had a BMW living with her. She lied about that, although he was the dad of at least one of her kids. I thought that was wrong. I don't know how he made his money, if he had an honest job or was doing something illegal, but he was home a lot, and had a lot of very expensive stuff....I asked once what he did, never got a straight answer....
Most of the people I knew there were pretty honest, and hard working. What scared me though, was the welfare cyclers. The family were the kids grow up, make some bad decisions, and end up in the same housing project as adults with their family. I know this one family, the grandparents, mother, and adult kids all live there in different units. So much for trying to better your life. The kids were friends of my older siblings, and had the attitude that they could always move in the projects if things didn't work out..yadda, yadda, yadda.
I think one of the big problems we have in this country is that more attention needs to be given on how to break the cycle and make it more of a safety net, and not a way of life.
I do believe most people are on government assistence because they need, and applied for it because they had no choice. Regarding social security....well, hell, my mom gets a widow's pension, and will get her own social security in a few years. She paid into it when she was working, and so did my father, so I wouldn't lump social security as the same as welfare.

shame on you for picking up her phone
I think it is good you are sharing this info with her, because a lot of teenagers just leave because they don't agree with it because it can be a difficult life and they want to have fun. But then, they come back, dive in...and then when they realize it is all really bs they feel it is too late because they are already baptised.
Oh wait...that was ME! =)
Seriously, though...I think giving her this info so that she will have real knowledge to justify your reasons for leaving is great.

We moved from NH to TX a little of 2 years ago. Although I really miss NH, I love it here.
True, allergies are can be rough...it is so dry in the winter here especially. However, it was well worth the move. If you bring your daughter, do yourself a favor and spend some time checking out which school districts are the best before you come down. Despite what you hear about TX being one of the worst states for education, there ARE some excellent school districts here. We moved to one of the more expensive cities, and the schools are really good (in my humble opinion.) We are on the east side of Plano, TX...where the uber wealthy do not live hahah..but it still is really nice.
Since I moved from NH...where in the Northeast everything is expensive...even this expensive city doesn't feel expensive. The rent is still cheaper...yadda, yadda yadda.
Don't forget to check out a site like salary.com to make a comparison for your salary and living expenses.
Do you already know which company you are going to work as a travelling nurse for? Make sure you do some research in that area too if you haven't had the chance. Not all the companies are the same. -

I am a milieage victim!
by free2beme ini would love to have a vehicle that got 30 miles or more to the gallon.
unfortunetly i have to toe things, like a boat, and that requires a truck.
so i purchased a dodge truck, with a deisel engine, and i get a thrill out of 14-16 mpg.

Our dodge van died the xmas eve, and our pontiac just went to the great car heap in the sky on Friday. We went out and got a 2000 Durango..because we needed something to hold 8 people and occaisionally haul stuff too. I felt really wierd about it, since it only gets 20MPG on the highway...but it is hard to get something that meets all your needs and can carry so many at once. My husband says 20 mpg is good for a V8...(he has wanted a V8 for a while).I have my little bicycle for my short errands. That gets about 5 mpg on M&Ms. Very affordable. =)
This week I am going to look at an 87 mercedes diesel...some guy is selling really cheap, and I have always wanted to try the waste veggie oil thing. I know a few peeps that do it on just one tank instead of using those 2 tank systems. We will see.

Don't you just hate...
by Eyebrow2 in.
when you made a well though out post, and you accidently go back a page and lose it???.
arghhhh..... well, i might as well waste a topic on fluff.. what do you hate?

that was a good trick eyebrow2, you got highlander involved!
I am here to serve. Welcome highlander!
Flying...it is funny, isn't it, how being behind the wheel can just bring out the worst in people sometimes? When I lived up north I would sometimes drive to Boston, and get cut off by an old lady now and then yelling at me...down here in TX people don't use their blinkers. Apparantly there is a shorter of blinker electricity, and 95% of Texans have decided they need to conserve blinker energy.
I hate it when you are riding your bike and some boob yells out a car window: get on the sidewalk!
I also hate it when there is no bike rack to lock up your bike at a SPORTING goods store that sells bikes...WTF??? Where I live isn't very bike commuter friendly, well not in the shopping plazas at least. I guess they don't want kids riding their bikes in the parking lot, so if they post the No bikes, no skateboard signs they feel they cannot have a bike rack. Crazy I tell you.
Well...I am done ranting...my eyeball feels better..I think I can finally go to bed..I hope my husband didn't hog the pillows...I HATE that.
