America: North America - The Difference: BRITS READ UP!
by RAYZORBLADE inwelcome to the continent of north america.. within this continent, which includes also the carribbean islands, and central america, it's not one (1) country, but a collection of different countries.. i have noticed, quite a bit actually, with our friends from across the pond (atlantic ocean), especially those that reside in great britain/united kingdom, yes even the republic of ireland, of their generalities with regards to the term: america.. heaven forbid, i would guess if you lumped all brits in with europe/europeans.
wrong.. my experience has been that, most brits consider anything over this way.....the other side of the atlantic as: america.
thus to other nationalities within north america: that means: the u.s.a.. to a north american: when you say "america" it means: the united states of america.

OH MY GOD...I cannot believe I missed it!!!!
Cruzen...I just finish the DaVinci code a little bit ago too....it is great how the witnesses use this same council in nicea to say that many of christendom's teachings were not of the bible, when at the same council they booted out the gnostic books that witnesses do not reconize either.

baptisim questions
by Globetrotter inis there somewhere a published list of questions (with answers) that one must answer prior to baptism?
i am sick of my wife saying that only certain people believe certain things.
though she has been raised a witness, she has never been baptised.

Mormons tried to recruit me on the phone
by Mulan ini think the mormons are trying a new tactic.. i got a call yesterday from the mormon church in salt lake city.
it seems one of my malaysian friends, is a bishop or something with the church in malaysia.
i knew he had been in slc recently, because he called me one night.

hey, I enjoyed your post...some interesting stuff there from someone who is actually a mormon, and I thank you for putting your informed two cents in.
I must say all the Mormon guys that rode thier bikes around our little town in NH were HOTTIES!!!! and even though I was only about 12 or so, I was very glad when the young man that my mother was trying to witness too, (and he try to convert her of course) kept coming by...he was such a sweetie...sigh....he ended up going to Australlia or something
for me...I could never join the mormon church because I do think they are too controlling for ME...I can see from your posts that there are a lot of differences than JWs that would make mormons a little more free in some ways than the JWs...as in politics etc....and I think that is why so many people think they are as controlling as JWs..because BOTH religions usually have many more rules or principles than exJWs care to live by.
On another note, one of my favorite authors, Orson Scott Card is a very active Mormon...he writes a lot of interesting stuff that is based on his faith..he started his writing career with Mormon pagents, plays etc...it is all very interesting...

Jim,
Excellent post....I always wanted to say to the elders, when they replied to wait on Jehovah to correct something, that maybe Jehovah would like to use me to do it haha.....too bad they pooh poohed you.....oh well. People who do not understand science tend to lash onto anything negative they here about it..JWs as a group are no different.
Thanks for the info...

the movie is called defending your life, with albert brooks and meryl streep.

Master & Commander - Movie/Film
by BluesBrother ini do not generally post in this section, or go to the cinema very much, but this film opened here this week .
it was utterly brilliant!.
dont go if you are prone to sea sickness, it is the most realistic experience of being on a sailing ship .. held me transfixed ...... superb historical drama.

Have not had the opportunity to see the movie....my 5000 children usually banish my husband and me to dvd land....
I have to say, though, that when I heard it was called Master and Commander, I wondered if perhaps it was a S&M movie with Russell Crowe...hmmmm that I might go to the theater to see!

same tired subject...... Michael Jackson still a JW? *read this*
by ApagaLaLuz infrom msn news this morning:.
michael jackson's people are pooh-poohing reports that the embattled entertainer has joined the nation of islam.
"that's not true," his rep, stuart beckerman, tells the new york daily news, while a jackson family lawyer adds, "michael has always been a jehovah's witness.".
