absolutely.

I do believe that what goes around comes around...call it Karma, call it what you want...it still ticks me off to this day that I lost this really cool bag and wallet in high school and no one ever turned it into lost and found. I didnt care about what little money was in it, but I had a few picutres, and really liked the wallet and bag,...and they were just cheap, but they were MINE.

now if I found a $20 bill on the side of the road...no people around and no place to really figure where it came from? yes I would keep it. but not a wallet...and if I found that money on the floor of a store I would ask whose it was (i have done that before). I would drop the wallet at the police station...I did my part

Money and career tips for EX-JWs....

it's a safe bet that if you were raised as a jw, or if you came into it early in life, you have some strange ideas about money and finances.

the wt for decades made even minimal post-secondary education utterly taboo and only recently has capitulated that "some" extra schooling might be neccessary (associate degrees good, bachelors degrees bad).

the average youth raised a jw has little understanding of investment due to the apocalyptic worldview of the organization (why invest in a dying system when the big "a" is right around the corner?).

Not all JWs feel that way...especially the last 10 or 15 years.

When I was an insurance agent, (when I was a JW) I also sold mutual funds and annuities...I was pleasantly surprised to find out how many JWs in my congregation had actually been setting money aside in retirement accounts, and bother to buy life insurance.

These were usually the more well educated witnesses..but I don't necessarily means college educated, although some had completed some college before becoming witnesses. Some of them had commented to me that their parents thought that they would not ever get old, so didnt bother with retirement accounts, etc, and they didn't want to have to depend on their kids for financial support like their parents were. They didn't see it as a lack of faith, just using the resources they had to be prepared.

But of course, this kind of stuff wasn't brought up at the hall hahah.....

My mother did want she could to encourage me to get good grades in school...she said she would be proud of me if I wanted to be a missionary, pioneer, or go to college, as long as I didn't let myself stray from Jehovah...and she invested some money at one point too after she sold her house....

I think things are definately changing in that area, and some congregations push that line a lot more than others.

i've heard that there are people who thrive on being with people.

they gain energy from it.

then there are the loners who gain energy from being alone.

It depends oh they people I am going to be around....If I am with my kids all week long with out a break..Then I DO need some alone time.

Usually a drive down to the store, or sometime after they go to bed works for me. When my husband is out of town I try to get take advantage of it by reading. I like to spend time with him after the kids are asleep, just talking or watching tv together...notning too dramatic. But I do really relish when I have 2 or 3 hours to myself, maybe once a week. Especially if I can enjoy it by doing stuff that is NOT related to housework, business, etc....but that doesn't happen much.

I am fortunate that I have a big family...since I am FROM a big family, I like to have people I love somewhat close by. (Funny...since I had next to no privacy as a kid, hahah!) I am a people person depending on my mood, hahaha.

New Contract

i just re-enlisted in the army today.

i now have an indefinite contract...i'm officially a career military hack.. salute.

Good for you! I am glad to read that what you are getting paid to do something that means so much to you.

My sister was in for 20 years, and has a pension now, and while she is not rich, it is decent. She was in the Air Force, and I think she stayed in it so long because it was the only really stabile thing in her life (bad marriages...etc.)

The military definately is not for everyone...I think I would suck at, I really do, but I do respect those that join and actually make it work.

I knew a few kids in high school that joined to get away from home...not always bad in of itself, but they did not take advantage of what they could have learned there, so a couple got booted out, and the others came out feeling like they had wasted their time. And then I know a few others that went, one had a definate goal of what he wanted to do, another had no idea but wanted to see what it had to offer. Both of these guys really put their heart into their experience and became good solidiers, and seemed quite happy the last time I saw them.

I don't agree with many things that the military is asked to do. But I learned one thing during the Gulf War..that it was just as important for people to voice their support for the troops as it is to voice opposition over military actions. A lot of the things I am hearing about Iraq right now disturbs me, but I would never tell a solider when he got home that he was wrong.

i'm in my 9th week.

after a miscarriage last year, i was waiting for this one.

i'm very happy except that i'm getting more morning sickness.. ugh, i can't stand beef, chicken, greens.

I am soooo happy for you!

One thing that helped me with morning sickness (which is all day really for most!) was nibbling on peppermint patties. I know it was the peppermint helping, but the best way to eat peppermint is combined with chocolate!

I wish you well...keep us posted...I was very very pregnant when I found this board a few years ago.

Some political ramplings....

first off, when it comes right down to it...everything should be questioned and i'm not sure if the following opinions i've formulated are good or not, but...what the hell.

america is too big.

it would be great if we could form four or five seperate nations from the union, but that simply is not going to happen and would be dangerous.

Heck no! I am for taking over Canada myself...then I don't have to leave the country if I want to drive to Alaska.

Manifest destiny, baby...there is no ocean between us and canada...just a few lakes here and there. You know the only reason the US didn;t try to take over Japan is that pesky Pacific ocean

Besides, we need our space...what is the US population about 250 mill or so? we have a lot of wide open spaces left that will stay that way for a very long time, and every country should be so lucky to have that. You forget the whole melting pot thing that the US started with...I think we need to have some tighter controls, but we cannot turn away legitimate immigrates

Besides, Texas supposedly can leave and be its own Republic any time it wants...so they tell me down here hahah.

THE GOOD OLD DAYS?

i was wondering if the witnesses still get together and study the watchtower as a group before the sunday meetings i remember in the old days this was very common, also picnics at the forest preserves evrybody seemed to be upbeat helping each other out with either rides to the meetings or wedding and baby showers .other than the hassel we got at school things weren't that bad.

i haven't been to a meeting for awhile and was wondering if it is all the same.

I used to get together with a few of my single friends and study the watchtower...we had fun, always got off track, but the main focus was fellowship for us.

I did go to quite a few get togethers and picnics..they would even regularly pitch in and rent out a local middle school that was across the street from one of the sisters...it was mostly for square dances, especially after we had a talk about wordly dancing hahah...but sometimes the kids would put on a talent show.

I did enjoy it

I would say..hey, well, look at THAT! You DO exist!

then try to tell him a joke etc, ease the tension..and say, look, God, I am imperfect...how can you expecte anyone down on Earth to get your story straight if you cannot send us something easy to understand? we are HUMAN after all...you made us, you should know our limations...so if you thought we would get it by all that confusing and conflicting so called holy texts you allowed to exist down on earth...than maybe you should go judge yourself

and by the way, I do hold myself accountable

I loved her on FAME back in the early 80s

=) she has an awesome voice, I just don't like what she is doing with it most of the time.

I am envious of her boobies though...I would like to look that good at my age...and I am a lot younger than her!
