i don't know incence, you've never drank with my brother and i--we could both polish off a six pack and i might be a little tipsy and he'd be TOTALLY unphased.

JW's and drinking
by DanTheMan inis it just me, or is alchohol consumption at parties and vacations virtually an unwrittten rule of jw-culture?.
when i was in, i did not drink, and i still don't.
i often felt almost ostracized for this by my jw associates.

i don't know, i certainly had opportunities to drink (once i was of age, of course). i remember going to parties at ms & pioneers houses and partying like a rock star. got drenched with a few squirts from the margarita ball one night. sittin around the bonfire, melting our beer bottles. anyway, i still drink, like a fish on occassion--right joanna?? :P

What is wrong with this picture?
by worldly girl ini am new to these boards, but there is one thing i just don't get.
correct me if i am wrong, but most, not all, of these boards are for what i like to call "recovering ex jw's".
so then why is it, that we have "active jw's" posting on these boards.

by lisaBObeesa ingood post!
but there are those who stay for other reasons.
even though they know the beliefs and practices are wrong, they cannot bring themselves to pay the price for leaving.

i do have to say that i somewhat feel like 'damaged goods' at this point in my life. i do appreciate certain aspects of growing up, i know they benefit me as an adult. my parents always pushed me hard to do very well in school and get good grades. even thought i hated it then, i notice a difference now. socially on the other hand, i feel like i'm about 14. since i left it's been a very difficult transition. dating has been not one of the best experiences--very naive and inept. please tell me it gets better? it's nice to know that i'm not the only one who's ever been where i'm at now. thanks everyone.

Kid Pics
by Valis injust got back from the hill country of southern texas, got to see the chickens and go swimming in the guadalupe.
some of you might have noticed that the last couple of weeks i've been on a bit of a tear....well, i feel much better for having seen the kiddies and their living arrangements and general condition.
here are some of their pics and you can find the rest at the following url...i would have embedded the url, but there are too many pics for all of that.

what cuties!! i know it has to be tough to be away from them. fortunately children are truly resilient. scooter's and my dad wasn't around much when we were kids (not really his choice). we understood that was just the way things were. your girls will love you and always remember the fun times you share together.
beck :)
p.s. christy!! only you would think of that!!

by Bendrr inwell, it was bound to happen sooner or later.
just one of those inevitable things really.. at three a.m. this morning, i was awakened by lights, voices, and pounding on my door.
i was halfway to the door before i was really awake and realized that i had to put some clothes on.

what's the silliest....
by dustrabbit inwhat's the silliest thing you ever heard a jw say?.
(besides, the possible, "anything they say is silly.
my personal favorite: an elder once said to me at a circuit assembly back in the eighties (and why i don't remember...maybe i was smirking): "you think the devil is weak?

one of my favorite 'parental' quotes was after getting spanked my mom barking at me to 'quit your crying or i'll give you something to cry about!!'

Where were you in 1975?
by dins ini have a vivid memory of 1975 even though i was only 6 years old.
i remember the whispers and the fervor surrounding the year.
i even had an uncle who marked his calendar every day with big red xs proclaiming that he couldn't wait for "this evil system of things to end.".

my mom said the end would come before she ever sent me to kindergarten.
