Thanks guys. Rachel, as you now know I used to post on Tishie's board as Immortal. Love the board, but the long lost section is rarely used. I just hoped with the traffic on this site, someone would know them.
What about Tamar Snyder, Caitlin Johnson, Adam Gabardy? I know, hope springs eternal. -

Why are JWs so disrespectful towards war veterans, etc?
by winnie ini never could understand this.
do they have no respect???.
this subject came up when my hubby was talking to his brother on the phone a couple months ago.

If you're a true patriot and believe in the freedoms that we enjoy as Americans, express your "gratitude to the modern-day counterparts of those men who made this freedom possible," the jw's. (yes, I think I just made myself ill for a second there)
LOL. Good point. Though I was speaking in terms of veterans, I may have to march on down to the local KH and shake some hands. In full dress blues, of course. -

When I or my hubby sees a solder, we try to walk up to him and shake his hand and simply say, "Thanks, son." Right or wrong....whatever one's opinion is on the politics of war....that soldier is doing his duty and it's because of men like him we enjoy freedom to express our opionions and worship the way we choose to worship.
Journey on,that comment makes no sense to me?By your reasoning you would go up to a Wermacht Soldier during WW2 and shake his hand?Hes just doing his duty after all.Or maybe its just your Countrys Soldiers "right or wrong".
What doesn't make sense? She was talking about the freedoms and liberties she and her husband enjoy as Americans, and expressing her gratitude to the modern-day counterparts of those men who made this freedom possible. I don't think Roosevelt heard much complaining from Europe when the U.S. finally got into the WW2 and helped those countries out. And don't start in on the war that's going on in Iraq, because I don't agree with it either. I did my tour, didn't like why I was there, but went because I had volunteered to serve. Unfortunately, if I as a Marine got to choose which wars I fought in, we wouldn't have much of a military. Not sure how those Army boys do things..... -

Death Knell -- the Internet for the WTS
by Francophile ini'm new here -- i confidently disassociated in 1994 (but really left the organization in 1992).
i was a ministerial servant and gave talks at conventions.
i'm not bragging, but just giving you an idea of my involvement.

Years later I surfed the net curiously about JW's and there was such a motherlode of information!
This is where I think the internet will hurt the WTS. As has be said in this thread, there are some who are never getting out, my parents included. There are others who drift away, only to drift back in when guilt, fear, or loneliness become too much to handle. Some even stay out, riddled with guilt and fear for the rest of their lives. These second two groups are the ones I think the internet can help the most.
I spent 3 years after I faded living like that. Granted, I was enjoying myself doing all those 'worldly' things I'd missed out on growing up in the 'truth'. That didn't stop the guilt or the big A nightmares, however. Thankfully, I stumbled across a support board and dropped those feelings like the bad habit they were. I honestly don't know if I would have stayed out if I wasn't able to see the organization for what it truly is, but thank god I did.
That's my take on it. I think the internet allows those who are fading to break free of the vice-like hold the organization has on it's member's minds. It allows them to see a future we were told didn't exist.
The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and
pass, leaving memories that become legend.
Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long
forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes
again. -

One night stands
by Crumpet inhow do you stand on one night stands?
and why?
i was really against them and said i never would again.

I think maybe I just don't really place a high value on sex. To me it's on a par with a really nice meal.
Damn, woman. Either you've discovered ambrosia, or your partners have done you a disservice. And no, I'm not implying I could do any better. I'm still trying to figure out what all this "little man in the canoe" talk is all about. I mean, what's more important, the little man, or the canoe? And what if the answer isn't static but ever changing? What if sometimes the little man wants attention, while at other times all that matters is rockin' the canoe? So confusing....
Personally, I think one night stands can be wonderful. I think it's all a matter of where a person is in their life. I spent years after escaping the borg enjoying the wonders of variety. Later, after a serious relationship ended as a result of my income going from young executive to jarhead, I enjoyed another few years of sampling the fairer sex. At those times in my life, all I wanted was to have fun and enjoy the company of attractive, intelligent ladies. I've been married now for just over two years, and that's wonderful too. Sex with a loving, trusted partner is outstanding for all the reasons that have been mentioned. Is it better? I think it depends entirely on where a person is in their life. And I don't mean to imply that people in a committed relationship are more mature or farther along in their 'growth'. It's not a measure of maturity, just preference.
