  IS IT JUST ME?

  since being out of the borg a little over a year now i suddenly realised how much more compassionate and caring i've become.

  claire, my wife, said to me that i was never happy as a jw and she's absolutely right - and yet i persevered assuming jehovah would make things better.

  he never did, of course.the point is, i've begun to realise just how much watchtower had its cultish hold over me - even right down to controlling my natural feelings!

  Hi Dansk,

  No I don't think it is just you. Many of us became increasingly frustrated at being dominated by petty, often unwritten rules and regulations. I am sure these 'hardened' us over time.

  I have found I am more magnanimous in my prayers now. I no longer pray just for the 'brothers and sisters' under going persecution. I have a better understanding of "observe intently the birds of heaven .... still your father feeds them" and believe this must apply to all people everywhere, Witnesses or not.

  I still consider myself a Christian, though I have done some reading about Buddhism on the web and one or two other books on spirituality generally. Not quite brave enough yet to attend a Buddhist, Sikh, Jain, Hindu or Baha?i temple to actually share in worship yet, though I have visited many during my travels in the east

  Associating with worldinglings when on Vacation &Travelling?

  in another thread today, stillajwexelder cites his passion as travel.

  i would say that is one of my passions too.. one thing i have noticed, with myself when a witness and in other too, is that association with 'wordlings' is strictly taboo when at home but things are different when on vacation or traveling.

  i have made a slight distinction between being on vacation and traveling, in that to me traveling, has the idea of backpacking and roughing it in exotic countries.

  One thing I have noticed, with myself when a Witness and in other too, is that association with 'wordlings' is strictly taboo when at home but things are different when on vacation or traveling. I have made a slight distinction between being on vacation and traveling, in that to me traveling, has the idea of backpacking and roughing it in exotic countries. Those of you have done it understand the sort of fraternity that can then build up between fellow travelers. All strictly against, Society's 'counsel' (i.e. law) not to associate with the world but nonetheless very enjoyable.

  Holocaust Museum/Cocentration Camp - would you visit?

  this is a spin-off thread to one posted today about bethel trips.

  i find the idea of bethel, holocaust museum and broadway somewhat repugnant.

  i have written before about the society's almost sickening bleating on about the concentration camps.

  This is a spin-off thread to one posted today about Bethel trips. I find the idea of Bethel, Holocaust Museum and Broadway somewhat repugnant. I have written before about the Society's almost sickening bleating on about the concentration camps. I remember when Poland was 'opened up' and the Society arranged International Conventions there, that there was always an opportunity to visit a concentration camp as part of the 'package'.

  I am only too aware that of the scale of atrocities and what went on in the concentration camps. I always try to remember to observe a few minutes silent contemplation on Holocaust Memorial day. But there is no way I would want to visit a concentration camp. I cannot even watch movies like Sophie's Choice, Shindler's List or the latest Hollywood one (can't remember the name; is it the Pianist or something?).

  I know we should never forget, least we allow it to happen again (which it has; Stalinist Russia, the Killing Fields, Rowanda). But would you visit?

  When in, we definitely did not regard ourselves as being in a cult. Now, I personally am not sure.

  I was speaking to my son who left the truth a while back and now lives with his girl friend who is study psychology at college. She has never been 'in' so has a totally different perspective on the witnesses. Her conclusion is that the Witnesses are cult like.

  How often I have heard that sort of statement, and it used to make me cringe, even when I was in! I cannot stand dogma. IMHO, religion should be about expressing doubts regarding the unknow as well as a search for spirituality certainty. That is why, many of here gave up in the end - guess weren't the cultish type.

  there's this place here in town called "babe's".

  its soooooooooooooooo good, but the only drawback is that the hamburger is more grease and fat than it is meat.

  they'll actually take the dripping fat with the spatula and throw it back in the burger and start smashing it in.

  Definitly in a resturant in Old Dehli. I had Dehli Belly for a week, lost 16 pounds and wanted to die!

  Fader and I have probably eaten there too. On the other hand knew some great places in Delhi to eat.

  Before I was an elder; never.

  When I became an elder myself there were some things I felt I had to take to the body. On the other hand there were lots of things I didn't, handled them myself. I guess I really never really trusted some of the jerks who served as fellow elders.

  Need help to blow-off the elders

  i guess i've been away too long, the local circuit overseer is coming, or the local circuit overseer has come by already and got on the elders' backs.

  i got word from a relative that the elders would like to meet with me for a shepherding call.

  i guess to 'help' me go back to the meetings.. i need adivce on how to blow them off for the year.

  I am in exactly the same situation myself. I stopped going to the meetings only 3 months ago and so have had loads of elders round to see.

  Above all, don't say anything controversial; you don't want them to get any suspicions you are possibly turning apostate. I think the best way to 'put them off the scent' is to blame everything on yourself. I simply say that I can no longer see a place for myself in the congregation and until I sort myself out, I would just feel a hypocrite attending when I am so unhappy. You get all the "meetings, study and field services will help" advice . Just smile and nod. Tell them how much you appreciated their visit and you will think about things. They go away happy and you just ignore it.

  I am sure as time goes on I will become bolder, I am no shrinking violet when it comes to speaking out. But as the good book says "there is an appointed time for everything". However, given our respective circumstances, now may not be the time to exit with a bang.

  Has anyone else asked this question about blood?

  not too long back, when i was an elder still administering the advanced medical directive, i asked a question regarding blood fractions to which i never got a satisfactory answer.

  if a brother or a sister agrees to accept blood fractions then we need to be aware that these fractions have come from donated blood, very often not just a single donation but the result of extraction made from multiple donations.

  however, if i was found to be a source of a fraction that could save a brother or sister's life could i give blood in order to save them?

  Excellent point from someone who knows about blood first hand.

  Does the WTS mention that blood fractions that are acquired from "large pools of donors" is the same as participating in an orgy? If that's the "logic" they apply, why is it OK for JWs to use fractions?

  This large pool of donors does have its big potential downside. Many hemophiliacs contacted AIDS because of contaminated blood in the early days of AIDS. I remember when the Society used to make a big thing about the health benefits of not having blood. The change to allowing fractions derived from 'large pools of donors' sure blows that out of the water.

  There is another aspect to this question which I didn't explain. That is, these blood fractions are only a small part of the donated blood. The rest of the 'donation' is not thrown away but will be used, e.g. as packed whole red blood cells for transfusion into acute blood loss patients. So as a witness you can accept part of the donation and not displease God but the patient accepting the part of the donation containing 'major' components is breaking God's law. I am sure the HLCs understand the donation/fraction system works but does not have an answer for this.
