I take that no one here has read it! It is an immense book full of humility and understanding.

What I learned from Gilead?
by eyeslice inno, not that gilead!
i am referring to the novel gilead by marilynne robinson.
it is a must read for all ex-jws; its main character john ames combines deep religious conviction with humility and being non-judgemental.

Do You Recognize Yourself As A Jehovah's Witness Still?
by minimus ini haven't been to a meeting in 3 years and when i tell people about my past, i tell them i used to be a witness.
-

Minimus - Me too - nearly 3 years out.
Funnily enough though, I still support my active wife by going to the Circuit and District Assemblies. Here I certainly don't recogize myself as a Jehovah's Witness. I seem like a total outsider. How things have changed since I was at the centre of our local JW world!

Will Bill Gates be destroyed at Armageddon?

i was so moved by the segment on the gates foundation.

Answer is yes. Unless you are in the figurative (Noah's) ark, you are doomed at Armagedon. Source; the latest District Convention. A lot being said about being saved!

There is always alot of 'immaturity' in all societies and at all levels. Being old in years does not make one mature.
I saw a lot of immaturity in the WTB&TS at all levels. However, elders who are supposed to be 'spiritually' mature often seemed to show a lack ot judgement and compassion that you would normally associate with 'mature' persons. -

"No need for advanced education"...
by Hecklerboy inthey just had the convetion here in west virginia and it seemed like every evening they were interviewing the witnesses on the news.
what really blew my mind is that on the last day they interviewed a brother that said that "there was no need for advanced education since the end was so near".. i was really suprised they made this statement on camera.
i know they've been cracking down on a college education lately, but this is the first time i ever heard them say it on the local news.. btw: my wife isn't very popular with my jw family since she is working on her master's degree in nursing.

Many of us heeded that advice 30 years ago. Coming up to retirement now with no pensions or history of well paying employment.

District Convention Resolution?
by TheListener ini've seen some threads here on the dcs this year but i don't remember reading about a resolution that may have been passed.
i saw this on another discussion board and have no idea if it's accurate or not.
it is posted that this occurred on sunday during the last talk.

Something doesn't seem right with this resolution.
The assemblies are the only meetings that I ever attend to support my wife, so I will look out for this and report back.

Is the Watchtower Society strong enough to win this war with the internet?
by jack w incould it be that the wts actually thinks it can win this war?
i mean, they are forcing sites to close down, suing the people that run them etc.
i wonder if this is the way they want to "handle" the internet problem.

fahrvegnugen - I think you have hit the nail on the head here.
The question is; Is the Watchtower Society strong enough to win the war with the internet? The only other people fighting this 'war' are regimes such as China and Iran. They have some power, e.g. the power to clamp down in Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in their own countries but still they are fighting a losing battle. The WTB&TS can only try to manipulate the minds of the rank and file but still they will loose out in the end. -

Your guardian angel
by greendawn inthere is always a lot of talk among the jws about the fallen satanic angels who turned away from holiness to practicing evil and tyranny, but what about the holy angels?
there are guardian angels for nations, cities, and individual humans, do you think you have one?
their duties are to protect from visible and invisible enemies, to teach humans divine justice, show them the good way, and comfort them during stressful, difficult times.

Had a quick look in the Watchtower Library CD.
W05 6/1 31 referred to Acts 12:15 and made this comment:
"It appears that there was a belief among some Jews that each servant of God had his own angel—in effect, a “guardian angel.” Of course, this view is not directly taught in God’s Word."
However, I can find no mention of Mat 18:10 in this context - need Blondie's help here, she is the WTB&TS researcher par excellence!

Take life's water free - but not from the Watchtower CD!
by eyeslice injust installing watchtower library 2005. license agreement reads in part; .
"watchtower library is a research tool for jehovah's witnesses, not for the public or for institutions such as schools or libraries.
yes folks, it may be full of "life saving knowledge" but whatever you do do not share it with the public!

Warlock
In addition to to Acts 12:15, Christ himself makes reference to guardian angels in Mat 18:10 when referring to 'little children', ""See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven."
Interesting - not sure what the WTB&TS's take on this has been.
