I just remembered something else.
There was a time (up to mid 60s?) when the congregations figures were all posted on a large notice board at the front of the hall. It used to detail total number of publishers, total hours, average hours, etc. What a sales organization!

Question about monthly hours, timesheets, etc.
by Alleymom incan anyone think offhand if there has been a thread about keeping hours, the timesheet, etc?
a friend has some questions, and since i was never a jw myself i am a little hazy on the actual procedure.
i figured this has probably been discussed many times before, so if anyone has a link to a previous thread, i would appreciate it.. does anyone have a scan of a timesheet?

Some meetings are more sales meetings than others but certainly the Service Meeting is pretty much an in your face sales meeting.
If the 'work' was saving lives then they would have a point but most of the adults I witnessed to as a child and youth must be dead by now and I am not that old!!! -

Entire countries deserve to die!
by LovesDubs inthe first scripture we all learned as jws is in matthew, "this good news of the kingdom shall be preached to all the earth....and then the end will come.
" st some point oi pointed out that while the number of hours in the ministry, the number of jws and the number of baptized continue to go down, the number of people on the planet explodes exponentially and so how is the above even possible?
i recall being told or reading that there is a thing called community responsibility and that was the way the society dismissed the multitudes of people who not only would never convert to jwism, let alone christianity but would never be preached to ever.

No excuses - the WTB&TS has failed to reach billions.
India and China both have population of greater than a billion. Publishers in India 24,000,; China unknown but likelyhood is less than 24,000. In reality it means that close on 2 Billion people alive today (or 1/3 of the population) has not, and is unlikely to, receive a witness! -

daniel sydlik, what a guy!
by dvw inhope this worked.
i thought a memorial was not to be a way to make the deceased the object of adoration.
isnt it supposed to glorify joho and make known the glorious prospect of the ressurection?

I am sure that Daniel Sydlik was a nice guy. Like so many of here, he was simply caught up in an imperfect system that is very difficult to get out of.

Society not doing a very good job of getting their Armageddon message out.
by ithinkisee inin this la times article, they mention every other 'end time' prophecy group - except jws.
but i thought jw's were the only ones preaching about jesus and the end ... .
'end times' religious groups want apocalypse soon.

The difference between JWs and many other religious groups who may profess a belief in the return of Christ, is that to JWs it is the "be all and end all" of their belief system. Without it the JWs whole system would fall apart.

"Slogging" - the top speed at which JWs go door to door
by LovesDubs ini know this topic has been beat to death probably in here...but i was watching some of the "friends" going down my street the other day (and they categorically skip my house because satan and i are tight you know) and it reminded me so much of how much i hated going door to door and how i prayed when it was my turn to knock that nobody was home.
and we walked down those streets with our little territory cards in hand, making anywhere from meticulous to rediculous notes about the house we were just at...and moving our feet as slowly as we possibly could to maintain a forward motion at all, to eat up the time we were forced to (yes i said forced to) report every month.
field service was what you called the time you spent between when you were at mcdonalds and dunkin donuts.

I can remember knocking on doors where you know no one is in and still spending 10 minutes talking to me "partner" waiting for the door not to be opened.
