every january, they read the letter as to where you'll be "assigned" for the convention and then the our kingdom ministry will detail all the do's and don'ts to remember.

Years ago the assemblies where exciting.
We used to cook thousands of proper meals, served on 'airline style' trays, to tons of washing-up. Pre-convention involved erecting massive marques, post-convention take them all down again.
Then things were simplified, no food, no nothing really.
Assemblies have lost their sparkle. Not that it bother me that much nowadays.

df'd ones are asked to sit in the back row at the hall.
although i was never df'd, i always sat in the back because i felt more comfortable back there.
i never did participate much anyways so i sat in the last row or before last.
I guess generally speaking, those most likely to be inclined to answer up sit towards the front.
However, I don't think that this is particularly a JW issue or problem. I have spoken at loads of seminars and events and getting people to sit towards the front rather than at the back is always a problem.

I actually watched the first programme last night.
The most frightening thing about the whole Nazi regime, was not the actual number of Jews they murdered as they murdered many other groups as well, but how they got people into the mindset where ordinary people could commit atrocities. We have a big lesson to learn from this.
The Nazis used propaganda to de-human the groups they hated. They refered to Jews and others as vermin. Once you get people to think of others as not being worthy as being human, it becomes easier to use the mob mentality to get people to turn on the objects of your hatred.
We must continually remind ourselves and teach our children and all generations;

wasn't the thought that we were so unified a comforting one when you were in the congregation?
only to realize that kicking everyone out that disagrees or forcing people to act a certain way "in the name of god and the wt" produces uniformity and not unity.. there is a difference, which of course are worlds apart.. did you notice this while in?
what value do you place on unity now?

The WTB&TS talks about unity when what they require of its members is uniformity.

well yesterday i saw the surgeon, with regards to my left hip and because it is so advanced with osteoarthritis and is crumbling the doctor says my surgical date is march the 3rd.
he said also he may have a cancellation for feburary and i may be able to have that day.

Good point Brenda. Things like this (and Northern Ireland, India/Pakistan, etc. etc. etc.) make me want to shout grow up! Humankind is so genetically alike, we are true are brothers and sisters; so why all the hatred between people of a slightly different skin colour or a slighlty different religious view?
