Makes no sense to me at all. Adam a fully grown, sexually mature man was made to spend 30 years on his own.
Even Robinson Crusoe got off his island in far less than that!

Jehovah's Witnesses code of dress.
by onlyme in.
could anyone confirm or deny if the sisters code of dress still prohibits the wearing of trousers?.
-

In India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan the sisters wear trousers all the time - even when the temperature is 40 degrees C plus!
Other sister expose their stomachs - i.e. wear Saris.
In the west, trousers and bare midrifts still a total no no.

Does God speak directly to GB today?
by Bambie init's been 15 years since i was df'd, but i seem to recall as a jw that the belief was that the only human after adam that jehovah spoke directly to was jesus.. my question has to do with what the org.
teaches regarding modern day communication with jehovah.
it was my understand when i was a jw, that the gb does not say that jehovah speaks directly to them.

The official line is no.
The Watch Tower Society does not claim to be inspired of God and therefore has a get out clause when prophecies fail or they have a complete change stance on a moral issue, e.g. refusal to community service instead of conscriptio into the army, once was a total sin - now is a matter of conscience.
On the other hand, it is difficult how they can justify such ambigous teachings such as 144,00 go to heaven/Great Crowd on earth and the blood issue with claiming to have very precise divine direction.

What's the most thought-provoking novel you've ever read?
by lucky ini'd have to say for me that it was ayn rand's the fountainhead.
even though i don't agree with a lot of her philosophy, it definitely made me stumble around in a thought-induced haze for a few weeks after reading it.

Salman Rushdie's (me?) Satanic Verses.
You have to read it two or three times to understand it. He certainly has no time for religion. -

Society corrupts "AGAPE"
by Amazing1914 inperhaps one of the most ludicrous and insidious sins of the watchtower corporation is how they twisted and corrupted the greek word agape' to mean something that it does not mean.
if you ask jws what agape means, they will respond with some rubbish about 'principled' love, then go on to discuss showing love by being at meetings, out in field service, or by shunning some ex-jw.
an example of their agape styled love can be found in only one use of it in 1999:

Interesting post. This subject is one of the reasons that hastened my rather abrupt departure.
We had one elder who constantly misapplied John 3:16, basically saying that God doesn't love the world but rather loves those who come out of the world.
I then read William Barclay's commentary on John. Commenting on John 3:16 he says;
It tells us of the width of the love of God. It was the world that God so loved. It was not a nation; it was not the good people; it was not the people who loved him; it was the world. The unloved and the unlovable, the lonely who have no one else to love them, those who love God and those who never think of him., those who rest in the love of God and those who spurn it - all are included in this vast inclusive love of God. As St Augustine had it; 'God loves each one of us as there was only one of us to love'

Not so sure that I am a fader.
One week I was at all the meetings and going out on field ministry, the next nothing. I haven't been to a meeting in about 18 months nows. Had the shepherding/encouraging visits to begin with but now nothing. Looks like I didn't fade - just left.

Did Anyone Ever Find The Meetings Interesting???
by minimus inevery once in a while i enjoyed a public talk that featured a very good speaker.
most meetings i was thoroughly bored.
especially was i bored with the baby food pablum that was force fed to us.

The majority of meetings are of poor quality. There is a big problem with the Society's approach. They believe that the Ministry School is turining out elders who are capable of putting together good Service Meeting parts and Public Talks but the reality is far from the belief.

Witness parents choose to tranfuse baby to save life
by Ticker injust wanted to share some exciting info on a recent experience of a witness couple.
their young baby very unfortunatly was struck with leukiemia and requiered a blood transfusion to save its life.
fortunatly the parents had enough sence and logical reasoning to save their babys life by listening to the medical staff and proceeded with the transfusions.

Makes me wonder what I would have done for my kids when I was in.
A number of years ago when I was a fairly prominent elder in our congregation and been with a number of other JWs to see their doctors about the no blood stance before elective surgery , we organized a visit from the Hospital Liaison Committee. I was comfortable enough with the stuff they presented on ?elective? surgery and associated blood loss but could not see how the same could be applied to other areas, e.g. accidents and treatment of childhood leukemia.
Specifically queried childhood leukemia with a couple of the members of the HLC after the special meeting. I said that the treatment childhood leukemia was one area of medical science that had really advanced over the last few decades. The treatment involves severe chemotherapy and then bone marrow transplants to replace the destroyed leukemia producing marrow. It also requires blood transfusions to replace destroyed white blood cells, etc as a result of the chemo. Obviously, lots of moral problems for JWs; could we accept the bone marrow transplant but not the whole blood, etc?
The answer from the HLC? ?In our country the child would be made a ward of court and that would be it, they would get the treatment?. Sounded like an abdication of making moral decisions to me.
