No, the Twin Towers has nothing to do with Armageddon.
My view is that we live in a world of infinite possibilities. Therefore, the infinitively good can happen but on the other hand the infinitive bad also happens.

Close family members who are disfellowshipped........
by Tracy inhas their stand on this suddenly received "new light"?
my teen received a letter from my mother telling her they(she and my sister) would no longer be associating with me (her mom) but that she could still come to visit the several states away!?!.
she blubbered on about how her conscience was bothering her everytime she had any interaction with me.

Officially, the stance is a hardline one. The hardline stance has been re-emphasised over the past few years.
But as Blondie pointed out, how it is enforced can depend on where you are in the hierarchy. I know of a few elders whose hardline stance was dramatically changed once a close family member of theirs was disfellowshipped.

Yes - Blondie is the font of all JW knowledge.
She knows far more than most elders I have ever come across.

Something the speaker said yesterday that got my wife thinking. Advice?
by PaNiCAtTaCk ini was working yesterday so i wasnt at the meeting but the speaker in his talk made comments about 1914 on several occasions and towards the end of his talk he mentioned that if any new ones in attendence didnt understand the signficance of 1914 or how we know that christ started ruling in 1914 that they were invited to ask any jw in attendence to explain these things to them and they would be happy to.
this really got my wife to thinking because as a 28 year old jw who was raised as a witness and who has always been very active in the ministry she couldnt explain 1914 or any beliefs that we have as witnesses in regards to 1914 other than things havent been the same in the world since this pivotal date.
something as simple as this comment from this speaker can be the first step into seeing the errors in the wt belief system.

'The significance of 1914' is much like the expression 'Bible Chronolgy proves'. These expressions roll of the tongues of public speakers easily and give the impression of being undeniable facts. Ask them to prove them and there will be no answer.

Did every congregation have one or two desperate singletons?
by diamondblue1974 in.
i remember in the kh i went to there was always at least one desperate singleton who would sniff around the single women particularly the ones which were his own age...he was mid 40s i seem to believe...never had a girlfriend and would have married anybody who wouldve had him.
there was no real harm in him...just lonely i expect but i think he made most women skwirm.. what about you...did your hall have its own resident 'single sister stalker'?

Here is another JW hypocrisy. ?Cultural variation? is tolerated with new ones and when the ?truth? is being established in new communities.
However, as time goes on, gradually the Society introduces the one size fits all approach. The CO starts clamping down on local variances and the congregation become JW Westernised.
How do I know? Seen it firsthand when serving as an elder in a developing country.

What's the most thought-provoking novel you've ever read?
by lucky ini'd have to say for me that it was ayn rand's the fountainhead.
even though i don't agree with a lot of her philosophy, it definitely made me stumble around in a thought-induced haze for a few weeks after reading it.

What's the best way to FADE away from the JW's?
by JH inwhat do you think is the best way to fade away from the jw org, without being df'd and without being bothered by them?.
just stop going and not answer their calls?.
change congregation, and never show up?.

Everybody has to do it differently.
Many of us still have family and friends in and do not want to be totally cut-off from these - i.e. disassociation is not an option. For others the total quick break will work.
You have to first think about where you want to be in say 12 to 18 months time and then work towards that goal. Don't rush thinks especially if you have a spouse of family in.

It is anti-religious, anti Islam in particular. It caused particular upset to the Islamic faith because of the way that in the dream world of story prostitutes are liken to wives of Mohammed. It is an excellent story if you can get into it.

I also love The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - it can be a very life changing book for some.

Field Service is a Farce
by swiftbreeze ini touch on this subject in another post but i felt the need to take it further...back in the day jw's went out in fs but i don't know about today.... i live in a big city....the territory my congregation has is small because there are so many cong.
here.. our bookstudy only had maybe four blocks at the most to work.
my ex husband and i would go to the meetings and hear talk about fs and all the wonderful and experiences and the joy oh joy in being out in the ministry.

It is also a farce because accomplishes nothing.
I think of all the time the brothers have spent in the field service since I stopped going to the meeting a couple of years ago. Not one new person converted. If they had spent a fraction of that time encouraging me then I might have been tempted to go back - thinking these people really care about me.
I believe it is a fallacy to think that a religion will grow by actively proselitizing they grow by attracting people by their lifestyle, morals and actions, ot by hammering doors.
