The WTS outrageous ruining of families
by greendawn infor those thinking that the wts is being run by a well meaning but innocent misguided gb think about the cruelty they perpetrate on those whose families they have disolved or made mal functional due to their anti christian disfellowshipping policies.
the lonely grandmother that served the org faithfully for 40 years and now can't even see her grandchidren.
the father that needs to pray separately before a meal in his own house because his prayers are not acceptable to jehovah.

WT Dec 1st 2005, calls us "pests" to be exterminated
by BluesBrother inok, if somebody has commented on this article before, well i guess i missed it.
this really got my goat though .
it really plumbs the depths of sadistic, heartless, thinking .

Hellrider makes a very valid point about the Nazis and indeed other propaganda machines that urged genocide and murder.
The way they do it is to de-humanize the target. No one in their right mind would smash a babies skull in but if you cultivate the right mindset then you don't see the innocent just the vermin.

Which countries still charge for the literature, and what are the rates...

India used to charge the public up to 2000, which I thought was a bit strange as the west had already stopped charging by then. No distributing 'life's waters free' to the poverty stricken masses of the sub-continent.
I'll try and find out if they still charge.

Book study in your home
by pratt1 in.
did anyone have the book study group meet in your home?.
my family had the book study group meeting in our basement and it was such a drag.. some of the reasons why it sucked.. the house always had to be spotless.. my mom insisted that there was always refreshments available for after the group meeting.. some dubs used to wander into other parts of the house, including my room.. if i missed the bookstudy because i was sick, some would actually come down to my room to talk.. there were many times when little things would go missing, glasses, magaizines, books, food, you name it.. people would check out my music and books all the time.. i have long since moved out, but mom still has the book study meeting there..

Had a group in my home for many, many years.
And, whilst I understand some of the problems, I always counted it a priviledge to have the group. I always held the view that Christianilty was about sharing; our time, resources and energy. I am much older now, nut still remain an idealist.

Watchtower Gives Up Explaining 607 BCE Date!
by VM44 inthis is a very important observation, that the watchtower has not tried to explain in print why 607 bce is the year for the destruction of jerusalem for the last 17 years!!!.
all that the watchtower has done over most of the last two decades is to repeat over and over the year "607bce" in its publications as if it is an unquestioned fact!.
the last time an explaination for the year was attempted by the watchtower was in 1988 when the "insight" volumes were published, but since then, no explaination for the validity of the year has appeared in print.. this must mean something, but what?

This thread has rambled off topic.
The point is that WTBTS has ran out of ideas. The 607 thing is not being pushed. They make vague statements like 'Bible Chronology proves'.
They have no theologians and so have given up trying to explain the 'deep things of the Bible'.

The story of my life (part 4- Bethel, the setting)
by onacruse inso, that spring night (i'm pretty sure it was 1971--memory fades a bit) i'm laying on an army cot in temporary housing, staring at the ceiling--my first night at bethel, and the beginning of the rest of my life as a bethelite (or so i had always thought).
true enough, i'd signed a solemn oath before jehovah, and submitted it to the governing body, that i would stay at bethel for at least 4 years (that was the way they did it then)...but the real expectation (and knorr made no bones about this in his public admonitions to bethelites) was that you were there for life--fine by me.. what more could i ask?
i was in the "control center" of the organization, surrounded by dozens and dozens and dozens of the anointed, and walking past members of the governing body every day...i could just feel their presence as they approached; it was almost palpable, as the holy spirit oozed from them.

Onacruse,
Didn't go to Bethel but so far, my and your stories are nearly identical.
Gave first public talk (full one - no half measures in thise days) at 18. Also, was the second school overseer at 18 and Bookstudy conductor at 19.
I am the same age as you so I guess there was a greater need for young blood back then.

I think the general premise that WTBTS has given up trying to explain 'deep spiritual' things is correct.
They now say things like 'as Bible chronology proves' without offering any proof. One of the last meetings I attended over two years ago now was the special talk about the fall of Babylon the Great. It was so vague, no mention of the UN, no attempt to prove dates.
WTBTS theology is now presented as a given - no proof is necessary in their eyes.

Marriage and Age
by pratt1 in.
would you marry someone more than 15 years older or younger than yourself?.
it seems to be somewhat common for men to marry women significantly younger than them selves, but when a woman marries a man much younger, it seems to generate a lot of attention.. what are your thoughts?

A few decades ago, an age difference of 5 or 6 years, particularly if the woman was the older would have been viewd in a poor light.
Now, I don't think it is as much an issue. People in their 40s, 50s, and 60s enjoy much better health than our parents and grand parents and therefore not only feel younger but looker younger too. Good on you if you find true love at any age.
