There is a sense of voyeurism in the way that elders handle cases of sexual misconduct.
This is totally indicative of how the WTB&TS entirely miss the point of how Christ handled people.

Do JW's elders really want to know what kind of "sexual activities" you did
by booker-t ini know many ex-jw elders out there have the first hand knowlege of this but i was wondering do the elders really want to know everything you did when you were engage in sexual activity that got you in front of a judicial committee when you were a jw or now.
i have heard horror stories of the elders wanting to know did the person have an "orgasim" did they perform "oral sex" did they perform "anal sex" etc; i can't believe that a person could be so "nosy" as to want to know what a person did in the bedroom.
i know a girl who is now df that i work with and she said that one of the elders asked her what size penis did her boyfriend have and did she prefer "small" or large penises.

Elder's school.
by ithinkisee inmy father-in-law and i had a big discussion about elders and how they are not loving.
i said this was indicative of the society as a whole.
he countered by saying, "i go to the elder's school, and it is full of loving advice.

I can only agree with willyloman and BluesBrothers.
Having attended numerous elder's schools, in my opinion, there is often a vast gap between the 'official' lovey dovey line and the reality of the actual line that elders will take when dealing with 'problems'.

How much longer can the 'anointed' Governing Body last?
by nicolaou inwhat was the latest figure for memorial partakers?
there has been plenty of feedback to suggest that the wt consider many to be wrongly partaking of the bread & wine and don't accept this whole number to be truly of the remnant of the 144,000. we'll be generous and say that they are all genuine.. take women out of the equation and you may be left with about 4000 men - the ladies live longer ;).
remove those that don't speak english and you may be down to perhaps 3000. remove those that cannot relocate to the usa and you might be left with 2000. remove those that may actually decline an invitation to the governing body - well not too many i guess so let's stick at 2000. remove those that require constant nursing or healthcare and you could be down to your last 1000. finally, remove those who are simply not up to the job .

Great thread.
I agree with the general view expressed here, that there will always be a pool 'younger' anointed to pick from, the whole anointed thing is just one big sham.
The biggest problem I see will be maintaining the 'faithfully and discreet slave' label the closer we get to 2014. This doctrine is based on the belief the 'faithfully and discreet slave' was appointed by Christ at his invisible return in 1914 and these would be responsible for looking after the Lord's earthly possessions in the last days.
My question is, just how long will the last days doctrine hold up? (Just read the message from the GB in this year's Yearbook - still full of the last days exhortations)

Elder's KM School notes and apostates
by beavis inthis is a message to sir82 or anyone with information on the recent kingdom ministry school, .
i have had several discussions with a friend of mine whose brother went to km school and he said there was information given about those who no longer attend meetings and are baptized "are sort of viewed as apostates".
i was speaking with a family member of mine concerning this issue and two questions arose: 1. are the notes from the recent km school acurate?

Interesting thread.
I think you have to remember though that all the WTB&TS is very centrally controlling, that in it self does not stop COs, DOs and elders expressing some very strange personal opinions, especially in the confines of elders meetings.
Over the years, I have heard some comments that range from the bizarre to the ridiculous.

Do you feel old?
by MsMcDucket innow, that i'm in my forties...heading toward fifty, fast; i feel old.
i feel like i've wasted a good part of my life with religious hang-ups!
i think that i would have done a lot of things differently had i not been raised the way i was.

I am 53 but fortunately, don't feel any different to when I was 30.
I guess keeping fit is a bit harder now a days. I still try to run for 30 mins each day and manage this 5 or 6 times per week but this is something I have done all my life. I watch what I eat and as a result feel pretty fit most of the time.
I think that us of the baby boomer generation are very lucky in that we have enjoyed plentiful, good quality food and the best of health care.

Death at Armageddon
by lime05 in.
what will happen at armageddon when non-jw's and jehovahs witnesses live in the same house.
how will jehovah make sure that the fireballs hit the non-jw's but the jehovahs witnesses remain unharmed.

Although, I no longer associate, my wife is still "strong" in the truth.
I am sure that she does not believe I will be destroyed at Armageddon even though this might not be the official line, i.e. if you are not inside the safety of the 'ark' of the congregation you will be destroyed.

I think so.
Along with my family, we were always the last ones out of the Kingdom Hall - I locked up nearly every week. We had people round to tea every weekend or were invited out.
As an elder, I was considered reasonable and was always the one that people preferred to speak to, rather than the hardliners.
Everyone was totally shocked when I simpled stopped attending the meetings. No fading - just decided one day never to set foot in our Kingdom Hall every again.

Is the WT really hemorrhaging members?
by GentlyFeral inwhile reading one of gumby's threads today, i figured out how to articulate something that's been bothering me about our analysis of wt statistics for a long time:.
the supposedly "missing" publishers.
recall your own first year of field slavery: you needed to be going out in service regularly, and turning in time, before you even qualified for baptism, didn't you?

I am not sure that 'hemorrhaging' would be quite the right word. Hemorrhaging, literally is acute, very rapid and substantial blood loss.
My feeling is that most congregations in the developed western world are at best stagnant and at worst in slow decline. Most congregations have a core of diehards who will never leave. However, round the edges, the WT is finding it increasingly difficult to motivate the rank and file to do yet more 'end of the world' preaching.
If you look at the growth figures for the west, it must be obvious even to the Governing Body, that the huge amount of effort put into the preaching work is totally fruitless. The majority of those baptized are Witness kids so what a waste all those hours of fields service must be.

An exellent post Leolaia,
I recently re-read the book of Revelation myself, particularly the parts about the 144,000, and came to many of the same conclusions. Also, I re-read the gospel of John to see if I could find any clues to the JW doctrine associatiating the "other sheep" with the Great Crowd. Nothing I am afraid - I looked on the Watchtower CD and I can find no WTB&TS 'theological' arguement for this - I guess this is another thing we took as being from the faithful and discreet slave.

Thoughts on 2006
by Nosferatu inlast night, i started thinking about the new year.
2006 is on its way.. i started thinking about what i was thinking more than ten years ago.
i thought that if we made it to the new millenium, we wouldn't make it too far past.

In reality, 2006 will be much like 2005. There will be natural disasters, man-made disasters, wars and terrorism. The fact is that things only ever change slowly.
Having said that I would wish everyone here every happiness for the New Year.
