Paedophilia Issue - why the mess?
by eyeslice inthe problem of paedophiles in the congregations has been well debated on this board.
there is general consensus that the handling of paedophiles in the congregation has been done extremely poorly.
the worst cases have been handled in an outright diabolical manner and involvement by the christian congregation has made matters worse; so much for the so-called hiding place from the wind.. .

"Conscience" - who makes the rules?
by eyeslice inas witnesses, we were frequently counselled to either do or not do things on the basis of not injuring the consciences of others.
to give an example, i used to always grow a beard whilst i was on vacation.
note, i am not particularly hung up on the right to wear a beard, i do not wear one now and i was never too bothered about shaving it off when i returned from vacation.. however, one year i didnt shave the vacation growth off immediately.

Hardline on disfellowshipped ones
by eyeslice inonce again a hard line is being taken on shunning disfellowshipped and disassociated ones.
perhaps this is some sort of backlash against the recent adverse dateline publicity in the us, the forthcoming pananorama programme in the uk and problems with a number of influential ones leaving the organization.
the text below is from the august km insert and the meeting part is to be handled by a "well qualified" elder with the paragraphs being read by a "capable reader".

New 'Worship' Book - senseless re-h...
by eyeslice inthere have been a few threads on the missing chapters in the new book, worship the only true god compared with the old united in worship book (first published 1983).
with the missing chapters you can draw your own conclusions as to why they have been omitted at least there isnt any ambiguity.. other chapters of the book are almost identical to the old, with some bits being omitted, other being re-worded and others being copied word for word.
so heres where the problems comes in.

15 minutes of fame?
by eyeslice inhas anyone here had their experience printed in any of the publications or their photo used in an encouraging illustration (field service, answering at meetings, etc.)?.
the reason i ask is that often public talk outlines make references to experiences, but on occasions a note is sent by the society to the effect not to include a certain experience.
presumably, this erasing from history is because the person referred to in the original outline is no longer in good standing or perhaps wasnt as saintly as originally made out.

Twisting the Scriptures
by eyeslice infrom tonight's school.. the instruction speaker started to discuss john 3:16 and said that the world that god loved was those who came out of the world, i.e.
the witnesses.
he indicated that this was brought out at last year's district assembly?

Have your prayers changed?
by eyeslice inthis is a sort of follow up to "jesus- ignored, forgotten & unemployed at wts" posted by metatron.. it strikes me, that since i have re-appraised many of my religious views that my prayers have changed significantly.
and whilst i am still an active jw, i have wondered whether my family has noticed, though they have not said anything so far.. jws prayers are not only very stereotyped (despite what jesus admonition about not using the same words, or by extension the same thoughts, over and over again) but also extremely introverted towards the watchtower society.. for example, a typical congregation prayer will include the following thoughts;.
1. bless our congregation.

Heaven and Earth will pass away?
by eyeslice inlike many, for years i understood the generation mentioned in matthew 24:34 to be an actual chronological generation that actually saw the events of 1914. this would mean that to be in a position to see and understand the events of 1914, someone would have to be at least 10 years old, and to be someone who actually fought in the great war, say 17 or 18 years old.
this generation has passed away, as clearly brought home with the recent death of the british queen mother who was born at the beginning of the 20th century.. whilst i understand the so called change of thought of a few years back that now makes this generation a contemporary rather than a chronological one, i cannot see how the guarantee that heaven and earth will pass away but my words will not pass away sits with a much vaguer contemporary one.
if it is not possible to clearly define this generation, then this guarantee makes no sense.. has anyone heard of any new spins on the guarantee aspect, say from cos, dos, bethelites, etc, as the official lines have been particularly vague on this point?

Flogging a dead horse?
by eyeslice indakota tribal wisdom says that when you discover you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount.
however, we often try other strategies with dead horses, including the following:.
1. buying a stronger whip.
