Never heard that term before. What does it mean and will it warrant a beating from me?

In my neck of the woods, the news is only talking about Imus' comment about the ladies' basketball team, so if he said more offensive things I cannot speak my opinion on them.
Someone, I forget, said that no one can make you feel inferior without your permission. If blacks use the same/similar or worse references to black women or other blacks as Imus did in videos, music, comedies or in conversation among themselves, or whatever, I think essentially, they are allowing people of other races to do the same.
If I don't beat the snot out of you for calling me the 'b'-word, but instead giggle at it, think it's cool or permit it in some fashion, someone who overhears you may think that it is okay to come along and call me that too.
It is a double-standard. Plain and simple. I don't buy the excuse that blacks put a positive spin on the 'n'-word because they are using it to mean "friend", "pal", or "confidant" when talking to each other. If white folks or anybody else can't refer to a black person by that word or any other negative references, neither should blacks to each other. Some blacks should examine themselves; I've been witness (eww, did I use that word?) to blacks being prejudiced to other blacks from different countries, so many are not as united on racial issues as some would like to make it appear.
And, yes, fire everyone who has done what Imus did, if that's possible. White, black, red, yellow, purple.
....By the way, I'm black.

Adding an 's' when there is no 's'.
"Let's turn to Matthews 24:14 then we'll read Revelations 21:3 & 4".

Multiple witness question
by Rethinking inhello all.. i read a post on the forum about the two-witness rule and how without it, basically an accusation cannot stand.
could someone, preferably elders/ former elders explain in detail why it doesn't stand if that is true?
i know why for obvious reasons, but we're talking about how it works in witness world.

Thanks On The Way, that info. was most helpful.
It seems however, that if someone even an elder wanted to, they could get a couple of their publisher pals together to be "witnesses" against someone else. Doesn't seem right, but alas I say again, this is in Witness World.

Hello all.

Could someone, preferably elders/ former elders explain in detail why it doesn't stand if that is true? I know why for obvious reasons, but we're talking about how it works in Witness World. And not an accusation relating to molestation. An accusation that is made because someone in the congo is pissed off at someone else and wants revenge.
Thank You.

Welcome DoubleVision; I am also new.
I posted a topic a few weeks back relating to something similar. I refer to what is happening to you as an "unofficial disfellowshipping" because I know someone that that is happening to. Ah, yes - gotta love the rumors that "loving" "Christians" start and keep going. They pass judgment on a brother or sister based on what they believe to be accurate and then shun them. But, it just goes along with the mentality and thinking as a group instead of thinking for oneself. It's funny how people you may have known for years suddenly treat you like you have some kind of plague because of some garbage someone else puts in their head without knowing the facts and considering the friend you have been to them all these years. Shouldn't they follow that scripture, I believe it's in Proverbs about a person who puts faith in every word...?
I like your ATM "illustration" (is that another word "unique" to JW's?) - very apt!

I posted a couple of topics a few weeks ago as a Newbie. It was suggested that I read up on the history of JW. I have begun my research and would like to just say that it is very disturbing. I'm sure to those of you who are experienced know that already. What bothers me is that, all the time, other religions and their history have been looked down upon and bashed, yet JW are pretty much the same with the spiritism, prejudice and other abominations that other religions are condemned for. I remember when the Proclaimers book first came out and Witnesses were excited that 'oooo, we have a history book and blah, blah, blah'. Boy, if they only knew!
I will continue my research. I like knowledge. However, I found myself thinking the other day that it was probably a good thing that I didn't read my magazines and other publications like I was "supposed" to, you know, like a good and faithful Christian. I'd go out in field service and "wing it". May be I wasn't too interested in that type of knowledge. I have my personal thoughts that aren't so much in line with the Witnesses, but I just keep 'em to myself and do what I need to do.

"Unofficial" disfellowshipping?

for lack of a better term.

Have any of you or anyone you know been "unofficially" disfellowshipped? Or has anyone on here who is/ was an elder "unofficially" disfellowshipped anyone? For lack of a better term. What I mean is the elders just can't find anything to disfellowship you on so they resort to lies and making up stuff to other publishers so that they, in fact, "shun" you. They want you to leave, do or say something that "warrants" a disfellowshipping but you just keep your cool which inevitably angers them and they just get worse and worse with the lies.
I ask this because I know of this occuring and just would like to see just how far elders, greedy with power, would go or have gone.
By the way, while I was typing, I forgot the 's' in disfellowshipping. When I went back to proofread, it read 'disfellowhipping. I think that is quite appropriate because that is what it actually is.

My daughter has an assembly part....
by megsmomma inshe just told me last night that she has a part.
it is with her dad.
she will be talking about a music teacher "making fun" of her for not participating in singing holiday songs.

Rethinking
I remember when I was in high school an elder approached me with a "scenario" and asked if I wanted to have a part on the assembly program related to my experience with the "scenario". I told him no because it never happened to me. He asked again and I told him no again. So he moved on to other young people.
I was shocked who ended up with the part on the program because it was known that the individuals were living a "double" life. I think all of it is a popularity contest for everyone. "So-and-so's son/daughter is going to be on the assembly program, ooooooo." Or "I was on the assembly program; I'm special."
I can honestly say that 99% of the young folks that have been on the programs when I was going up are now out "in the world" doing many "worldly" things. So much for "standing firm", huh.

First Post
by Rethinking infirst time posting, long time lurking.. came upon this site on accident a few years ago and dismissed it as a site for disgruntled people; however, in the past months i actively searched for it as it stuck in my mind.
believe it or not, i practically read all of the topics.
i felt, wow, i wasn't alone in my thinking and feelings about some things.. it all started years ago in my last year in high school and then into college.

Thank you all for the welcome!
What I've experienced in the past few years is the control issues. My goodness, they've gotten way out of hand! I can remember when you could talk to someone about a Watchtower or Awake article and express your thoughts. Now, you might as well go to Kinko's and have them make you a label that says "apostate" because that is what you'll be called. I don't think that is what was meant by the body. We all can't be ears or elbows so why do we have to think the same about everything???!!! Why is it that the society can brag about fighting for civil rights and amendment rights 'in the world', but deny those 'in the truth' the very same things they fought for?! It doesn't make any sense.
The other thing is that there was always "do more", "get out more in the service", "sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice" from the convention and assembly platform. Yeah, that's easy for you to say, but the rest of us have rent to pay, car payments, hospital insurance and so forth. Obey, obey, obey. Follow, follow, follow. Stay close to..., stay close to... stay close to.... Submit, submit, submit. If you don't do these things that means you don't love Jehovah. Um, last time I checked the greatest commandments were to 'love Him with your whole heart, mind and strength' and 'love your neighborhood as yourself'.
I've seen a lot of young people flee like there was some kind of rabid raccoon on the loose. It's funny; all those high schoolers who weren't going to college because they were going to pioneer and all those who were on the programs for standing up for their beliefs in school with their classmates , where are they now? Who knows? Their parents are taking care of their kids because they 'committed fornication' and can't support them on a high school education. (I'm not knocking folks who've never been to college or have children). My point is: They should not have been hypocritical or look down on those who decided to do something other than pursue a theocratic career.
There are other things that I don't have to mention because more than one person already has.
And I do plan to do more research into the beginnings with the pyramids and all. Sounds kinda creepy, though.
