Let's see:
A post is made saying that God does not love us... that He is mean and cruel and barbaric and unrighteous... and includes some pretty mean and slanderous stuff about Him... by people who don't know Him ('cause if they did, they wouldn't have said such things and they would know that He does, in fact, love us...).
While some respond that yes, sure, I THINK God loves us... not ONE of the so-called "christians" stepped up in His defense. Not ONE said, "Hey, wait a minute... you're making false accusations... and pretty bad ones at that..." Right? Not ONE?
Well, one did. ONE so-called christian not only said, of COURSE God loves you... and not, "I THINK He does,"... but also that the accusations were FALSE and UNFOUNDED.
And now the "christians" want to say that I am not "being christian." Hmmmm... let me think about that for a minute...
Okay, MY response to that is, well, maybe God loves you... but you CERTAINLY didn't step up and show your love for HIM. Which is what you ASSUREDLY would want someone to do for YOU... whether to claim to believe in God or NOT... if YOU were falsely accused. And that fact that you DIDN'T do what you would want "all men to do to YOU..." is hypocrisy.
The scribes and the Pharisees didn't LIKE being called hypocrites; yet, that didn't stop my Lord from calling them such.
"So, because I tell you the TRUTH... I am no longer your friend?"
I don't know which is worse: the false accusers... or the so-called "christians" who haven't the cahones to stand up and defend the Most Holy One of Israel... whether or not He asked you to. There is a word for standing up to set the record straight for someone you know and love: it's called LOYALTY. And it is something SORELY lacking in this world. My goodness, I know people who will stand silent if their own MOTHER was falsely accused... if they think speaking up will cause them the slightest bit of discomfort. They, too, are hypocrites... and cowards.

The original post that started this thread was posted to stimulate a discussion and to collate ideas from the myriad views that exsist on this forum.

The poster was only the messenger.

Whilst the majority of your message may have included Christian content, your delivery of it was not "Christian", it was brutal - and as such is inline with the Watchtower's style of evangelism.

Whilst many here (including me) believe that Chritisianity is true (for the limited view of the cosmos that we have been conditioned to accept), there are many that have been hurt by an organistion spreading dogma under the guise of Christianity and consequently many are suspicious of it...

The simple equation is the Watchtower=God and the Watchtower treated people badly, so therefore God treated them badly !!!

Some understanding of that situation wouldn't go amiss !

Your delivery contained dogma and arrogance, compounded by the fact that even your latest post is still tainted with it !

And now the "christians" want to say that I am not "being christian." Hmmmm... let me think about that for a minute...

"So-called Christians" !! Who are YOU to judge. You are not the only person that feels that they have had a personal revelation, but you lord your's over people (maybe unintentionally).

I would think that you would have better things to do with your gift of prophecy than that !

was john's revelation supposed to be simply john moving over to the afterlife?

by this i mean instead of being some grand prophecy, could it have been our own personal armageddon?

I have to side with Awakened07 and Eclipse - In my experience cranial autopsies would start behind the ears and leave the front of the face alone.

However, it is from Reuters and they are very well respected.

Christians: Why are we here (earth) in the first place?

another thread here reminded me of something i used to wonder about while i was still an active jw, and haven't really thought about until now that i was reminded of it again.. - this is probably a very banal question, but (the premise comes first):.

-god created a myriad of angels in heaven before he created our universe and earth, right?.

-and - except for those who rebelled - they are all still up there, right?.

My take on it...

I will fit this analogy around the angel/us/good/bad/heaven/earth idea - but I don't see it as this literal, and I see this happening INSIDE him.

In the beginning God was (maybe not HIS beginning, but for the purposes of this, it was OUR beginning, he may even have his own "God" to worry about).

We are told by some psychologists, that we only experience ourselves in relation to other people. (think about that for a while - how would you KNOW yourself - if not for your experiences of,and reactions to, the life around you) ?

So... God WAS.

Was WHAT ?

There was no-one around for God to "relate" to. He couldn't EXPERIENCE but he could KNOW.

So in order to experience, he created the angels. He bounced a few ideas off them, but it was like looking in a mirror - they were just "good", so he let some be the opposite of "good" - he made them "bad".

So now he had a contrast to work with - he could bounce his thoughts off the good ones and the bad ones.

BUT... there was a problem - he knew which were which - he knew what to expect from each "group" of angels, not much of a relationship with a robotic angel...

SO, he made us, with the CAPACITY (un-used) to be "good" and "bad", then he allowed us to go and "be".

Obviously we chose not to be robots and we reached out and milked the "Eden" experience for whatever it had to offer including "the KNOWLEDGE of good and evil", so now were able to EXPERIENCE both "dark and light".

We are just doing what we saw him doing - "knowing both Good and Evil" - not really fallen, more "awakened".

God "IS", he does not "experience", he just "knows, is etc"

As all of this is happening inside of him, we constantly "feed back" what these experiences are like, giving him the opportunity to taste those experiences for himself through our actions.

I'm also sorry that you are ill.

Autumn (fall) is great : this year I plan to act like a child (with my children) and go out, knock conkers out of trees and jump in piles of crispy brown leaves.

My tip for a cold is dissolve loads of menthol crystals in a bowl of hot water and inhale the vapour.

Menthol crystals - not to be confused with Crystal Meth though !!!

I have often wondered, are human beings good at self delusion? What is real ?

But, isn't everything that we experience just a collection of nerve imulses? We believe that the external stimuli are there to cause the impulses - but what if they are not ?

In a dream, there are no external causes - yet you "feel" them as you would outside of the dream.

Maybe the world is like this - maybe we are all "one" in the mind of God, to me, living my life with this in mind is my spirituality. I reconcile this with the teachings of Jesus, but I would not say that I have a religion.

Religion is bad. Look at how Jesus blasted the Pharisees - look at how we attack the Watchtower. We instinctivly know that it is wrong - maybe that is our spirituality telling us that.

I can't believe what is happening here !

This was supposed to be a thread about God's love - and now look at it !

What was the great commission? It was to preach the news and make disciples !

How do some of these posts even come close to achieving that ?

These threads ALWAYS (with only a couple of exceptions) degenerate into a "them and us" war of harsh words ! Why ?

How does anyone expect to open the tub of butterly love and spread it around with a sharp knife like that ?

This thread has several posts made by sincere TRUTHSEEKRS who really are looking for just a small taste of the Divine... just one !

Then they will feel it for themselves.

I am glad that I found my faith before ever getting embroiled in "debates" like this, because I believe that Christ would be ashamed and embarassed by many of those who claim to speak in his name !

My first "toe in the water" was CARM - Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry.

Good for the facts, quotes and explanations of how JWism differs from standard Christian theology.

EXCELLENT resources on the site - and a good place to research the cults.
