IDENTITY=Behavior There are no CAUSELESS crimes or innocent evils
by Terry inwe often hear it said: love the sinner, but; hate the sin.. we try and reform the child molester.
we put career criminals through rehabiliation.
we let the drunk driver off with a fine and a warning over and over until an innocent family is wiped out.. why separate the deed from the doer?

My father sexually and mentally abused me. He was sexually and mentally abused by his aunt and then sent into care when it was found out and stayed in childrens homes until he was 16 at which point he had to make his own way in the world.
Does his upbringing excuse him for what he did? NO
Would many of the bleeding hearts in this world still be as liberal if it was THEIR home being broken into, THEIR family being murdered, THEIR family being raped/molested/abused?
I have been abused, yes it effects the way I live my life and how I think and how I feel about myself and others. BUT having been abused, I would never wish it on anyone, I will never understand why someone who has been abused decides it's okay to give another person as much pain and heartache as they have had.
I loved the point that was made earlier - society does not seperate a persons deeds that are good from the person and say they can't help being good.
From a VERY young age you are taught what gives you pain and what gives you joy. You then decide whether you treat people in a way to give them either joy or hurt.
If a kid hits another kid there is no way you can tell me that they didn't understand that they were going to hurt them! Maybe they didn't understand HOW much, but they know full well they are giving that other kid pain.

Will we see the GB replace 1914 with a new date in the next 30 years?
by nvrgnbk inray franz mentioned in crisis of conscience that in 1980 schroeder, klein, and suiter proposed changing the start of "this generation" from 1914 to 1957. as the "this generation" doctrine has since mysteriously morphed any date associated with it is moot.
however, as time marches on without the developments anticipated by the gb may they again pick a new year, this time for the invisible enthronement of christ, in an attempt to buy time and regain credibility?
what dates or historical events would be likely choices?

I'm going with the case for not mentioning 1914 for a while and letting it sink out of the r&f consciousness. And just mention that it was fortold correctly even if the chronology used was not quite right. But then i don't know how the 1919 and 1935 stuff would work cos aren't they all based on the same kind of chronology. oh idon't know and quite frankly i don't think alot of dubs do either.

Diamonds, Are They a Scam?
by Satanus inwatching the history channel on all the effort, expense and equipment that goes into mining them, cutting and polishing them, the above question occured to me.
so, except for industrial uses, what is it about them?
i mean, as far as looking at them, glass worth less than a nickel can look the same.

Diamonds are just a rock, gold is just a metal. It's worth more to me if I have money to feed myself and put petrol in my car and not be in debt!

Humour? Financial security and looks?
by cyberdyne systems 101 inthese are what might be considered classic things that a person might be attracted to, in order to contemplate a romantic relationship with someone, i was particularly thinking of women being attracted to men that is.
possibily a combination of these three, is that your experience here?
what other things do you look for other than these and how much would you compromise over what you would like and what you would or have got?

Well I was attracted to hubbys humour, we have the same likes and dislikes, like the same kind of books and films. he is not huge in the looks department but neither am i, he did however stick by me everystep of the way as i extricated myself out of the borg. as for money i earn x2 what he does, so he probably hooked up with me for my financial security, not me for his! the only thing i should have checked up on is the sex drive - i thought he had one when we were going out but he lost it soon enough. i want more sex!!

The Kingdumb Melodies
by WTWizard inone of the things i find distasteful is what the witnesses' taste for music is.
they have the same 225 songs that they had since 1984. and many of those were carried from the previous book.. what i noticed while i was there is that none of the songs are really music.
they are so poorly written and performed that i think whoever was in charge of it just threw it together.

And is it me or were they pretty much impossible to sing?

Do You Miss Not Being With Your JW Family & Friends?
by minimus inpersonally, i keep very little contact with any of my witness family except my mom.
i don't miss the conditional friends or family, really.
but i do know that many here are devastated by their being abandoned.
-
bluebell
Like you minimus I only have contact with my Mom really.
The thing is, when i was a witness it was always me keeping in touch with others and not much the other way round, so no surprise i have no contact now really as i don't make the effort and they never will.
i would like more contact with my family sometimes, but really they are so judgemental and never really liked me much anyhow, not surprisingly, as i was mostly depressed, and you know how witnesses are with a depressed soul - they run a mile!
it just upsets me that i put in so much effort with my family and friends and they dont really give a shit that i am now so much happier. wonder what they'd do if they found out that dear old daddy abused me? those that do know (sisters and 3 close friends) still have nothing to do with me despite knowing why i left. i'd just like to tell my cousins and uncle&auntie and see what they make of everything then!
bitter? moi?

Do You Still Act Like A Jehovah's Witness?
by prophecor ini'm not very far removed, any longer from how i presented myself as a witness, and how i do today.
i'm usually polite, cordial, respectful of others, even those who i may have very little regard for or those who on a regular basis, piss me off.
i work very hard not to use foul language.

I am getting much more relaxed around people rather than - and yes im stealing someones phrase from this topic - leery.
I'm more me rather than an automaton.
