Atheists, Why the Anger?
by XJW4EVR inok, so you deny the existence of a god, or you lack belief in a god.
my question why do you get so angry over a mythical being?
no one gets as upset over the tooth fairy, santa claus or the easter bunny, as i have seen some of the atheists on this board get over the slightest mention of god.

people don't kill in the name of the tooth fairy, santa clause or the easter bunny. they kill in the name of god though. priests pray over the troops. people do suicide missions so that they will get into paradise with god.
I don't know what I believe still. Only 3 years out and still cleaning out the dub view of religion.

I went to a wedding this morning
by RichieRich infor 2 kids who actually are only 19/20 years old.. unfortunately, no one seemed to be thinking that was wierd / wrong / not a choice decision,.
i laughed out loud when the dj played "only fools rush in".. anyhow, it really reminded me of a witness wedding- reception in the community center, the electric slide, the whole shebang.. oh well, at least i looked good..

hmm, that is odd. wonder how log they've been going out and how long they've lived together? i sometimes kinda wish i hadn't got married - i did it still in a dub frame of mind - felt more relaxed with sex in marriage and wanted my family not to have an excuse not to talk to me. maybe their parents were religious, i dunno. Whenever i mention that my sister was married at 19 people are shocked. maybe the other guests thought it was odd but obviously wouldnt say because after all its a wedding and it wouldnt be right to say that kind a thing at the actual wedding. bet they all discussed it before and after though.

were they religious? or am i incorrect in thinking that if you are that age you usually do not get married unless you are religious? but then i'm a bit of a cynic, maybe it will last.

How do you see the world heading if all religion was eliminated?
by Guest with Questions inmany, like dawkins, think that religion is the root of all evil.
hypothetically, if all religion was eliminated and all people stopped believing how would you see the world in a few years?
with atheism on the rise do you think that society will improve or deteriorate?.

I think they'd just find something else to kill each other over. But imagine if all the money that goes into religion went to the poor and hungry and diseased, unfortunately human nature isn't like that (with or without religion)?

Moral and upright but substandard
by greendawn ini recall how the fds was castigating those that didn't do any field service making them out to be spiritually dead though otherwise they may well be very moral and responsible people.
and the intimidation that those who do not support the kingdom ie do not preach will be punished by the angels during the time of the end.
they have hidden the money their master gave them, they are lazy and worthless slaves deseving of punishment.

they think that their preaching is charity work. so sad. much better to help people NOW rather than to say - well god will sort it out soon. someone homeless would prefer a house now rather than one in the new system. someone being abused would prefer it to stop rather than to be content that one day it will soon be a distant memory.
o i forgot - of course everyone is going to die anyhow in the GT so why bother helping them now?

Snakes: I feel the elderly are neglected by the Borg and their minions on the BOE.
Bonnie_Clyde : That was the major factor that made me stop going. My mother was very old and sick, my father (an elder) was her full-time caregiver. Besides working full time, I spent every evening caring for their needs including some very messy nursing duties that I won't detail here. Often I didn't get home till 10:30 or 11 pm and had to start the day on my job early the next morning. During this time there was almost no congregation support--remember the counsel is that the relatives are the ones that are supposed to take care of the elderly. Problem was--as my mother's condition worsened, we had less and less help from the relatives--things were just too messy. I couldn't believe that with all the support my father had given over the years--finacially, spiritually, and otherwise, that there was so little interest in our dilemma. Even carloads of witnesses would drive by their house, stop to visit the neighbors, but didn't bother to stop to see my parents. They only lived one mile form the KH. Then the elders had the gall to come and counsel me that I needed to get out in service--it was fine that I saw the need to take care of my parents but I had to realize that there are people out there who have no "hope."
I know this is off topic and sorry for that but I have to say I totally agree with you, my mom looked after her mom and my father was counselled because she was missing meetings giving the needed 24hr care. No-one helped much, my mom reckoned that sisters would drop by in the day sometimes but i never saw anyone in the evening or weekends when i looked after her, not even when she was in hospital. My superspiritual sister was too busy pioneering, my other sister felt it was too much emotionally, my bro doesn't drive so it was that i was the only other person helping her (out of 9 grankids). grandma had two sons too - guess which one was willing to make a 2-3hr journey on public transport and who living 20min away couldnt be arsed? one was d/a the other a witness. of course it was the d/a one who visited his mom.

The Urim and the Thummin
by WTWizard inhave you ever had a talk about the urim and the thummin?
or, perhaps you had to figure out how these items relate to our lives today.
notably, very few people even know what those items are, except for those devout jews that have studied the old testament or those scholars that study the bible professionally.. i have noticed that the watchtower society places undue emphasis on the urim and the thummin as the "deeper things".

lol you know what i thought of when i read the topic "oh those sticks that moses used to throw to get a yes or a no like a ouiji board kinda thing" completely wrong footed me when i read and remembered what the urim and thummin were, the high priest wore 'em right?
