I do worry a lot about being abandoned again. So much so I haven't really had a successful relationship since I left. When I feel someone get close to me, I test them (not deliberately, but subconsciously) and make them 'jump through hoops' to prove they love me and will stay with me, come what may. But ultimately I seem to always freeze in the end, because I can't believe this will last, so I look for the signs it'll end - and then I have to make sure it's me who puts an end to it before he does because I can't stand the thought of being rejected, it has to be me doing the rejecting.... I'm trying really hard to get over this but it's tough. |

Abandonment
by reneeisorym inmost of the time i'm ok with the problem i'm about to discuss.
it just seems that occasionally it hurts me more than others.. for those of you who's family are all jws: it was hard to leave all of your family behind but for whatever reason, it made you happier to go than to stay.
after you left, did you ever get scared that those in your new life would abaondon you as well?

Sigmund Freud and Rutherford??
by bluebell insomeone suggested to me that rutherford (i think, they just said one of the founders) went to a talk by freud and incorporated hypnotism into the meetings.
they said that w/t study set up made you go tick tock between reader and conductor.
i thought it was funny.

as for hypnotism, in a way the whole thing is based on hypnotism, isn't it? if hypnotism is basically focussing someone's mind on one thing, repeatedly, then that's what happens to JWs - they're fed the Armageddon - New System message so much, repeatedly, that it makes them super-submissive and susceptible to influence...

Upset & Need to Vent to Compassionate Ears
by FreeGirl2006 ini am so grateful to have a place where my experiences being treated like one of the walking dead can be understood and empathized with.. i was opening my mail last night and there was a bill from local hospital.
i opened it a bit confused because i have not been in a hospital in 2 years.
it was a detailed bill for my stepson.

Jesus
by alotlikemay ini'm going to put my head on the block here... and possibly alienate some of you in doing so.
i'm new to the forum.
forgive me, i don't have time to read up the whole history of threads here, much as i'd love to, so if this subject has been discussed already (as i'm sure it must have) then apologies .

Narkissos, thank you for sharing that with us. That story seems so familiar. They threatened my father with df because of Jesus. When my parents moved to my town, I moved in with them (I was a pioneer, it was more economical to do so) and the elders took me on one side to say that they didn't want me to move in with my parents because of my father's beliefs... I was speechless at such rudeness. Of course, I moved in with my parents! This elder also accepted an invitation to our house for dinner a couple years later when we thought it had blown over, and he just didn't turn up.... because of my Dad... all the preparation was wasted.
But I am proud that my father and I stood up for our beliefs. It caused huge upsets in our family because of the stress of it, but I'm proud we never gave in. Once when my Dad had been hauled in front of a committee, I went to pick him up from the Hall afterwards and the first thing I said to him, before anything else, was "Dad, you didn't deny Him, did you?" because to me it would have been far worse to deny Christ than to be df'd or the like.
Brother, I'm glad to 'meet' you.

Whats the strangest thing you've seen someone get in trouble for?
by LaniB ini remember one windy summer day, after a meeting on sunday morning, i walked out of the hall behind a sister who was part of the church congregation with her two teenage children.
her husband did not attend.
the wind caught her dress unexpectedly and blew it up a'la marilyn monroe and revealed that she was wearing (shock, horror) french knickers...... there were a few murmers behind me which i at the time put down to things like "oh poor girl, so embarrassing".

oh yeah and we were told categorically that the proceeds of Fleetwood Mac's famous album Rumours went to the British Witchcraft society or something like that, so we should throw any copies away (the brother giving the talk knew I had it and looked pointedly at me) as well as any other evil music.
and I did throw it out.... argh! that vinyl would be worth a fortune now, lol
well, maybe they were to do with witchcraft but if we start picking and choosing our music based on the private lives of the performers we'll end up listening to nothing, I mean, that puts Tschaikovsky out for a start!

ok, so if your gripe is with him being held up as a great guy and not particularly with him, then don't drive your knives into his gut but instead criticise those who hold him up as a paragon of virtue
wow, paragon of virtue he was not!!! and neither am I - and hillary, I can hardly have come across as pious (or whatever you said) when my whole point was that if you condemn David as you patently were doing, then you condemn me because I'm not much better than him!! In OT times, I would've been stoned for some things I've done.
This may not impress some of you but I feel that David is a good example - a good example of someone who was inherently flawed and who made the most astounding errors BUT who God nevertheless loved. To my mind, the point of the example of David is not to show how wonderful he is but to show how great is God's mercy - and very obviously his mercy, as Scripture says, is waaaaaay beyond our understanding.
You know, speaking purely personally, I like people who are flawed, who are human, and who don't get all pompous and condemnatory. I'm proud of the friends I've made, although hardly any of them are religious or believers in God, because they're human but darn me, they're loyal and warm friends and entirely loveable for all their mistakes. That's how I think of David as well.
I'm also laughing my socks off because for all that y'all don't like him, he's surely been the subject of some hot debate - yay for David!

hillary, people use meaningless expressions all the time - sadly I'm too tired and too busy to weigh every single word!
and actually I got sick of having to do so during my years as a Witness, so forgive me if I laughed at the fact that you nitpicked just one of my words! it's rather typical of JW mentality as I remember it !!
yes, that's more-or-less what I meant and it came as a shock - as it does to many people

I'm actually laughing out loud at that story OUTLAW - it could only happen in the JW organisation, what a load of fruitloops they are / we were
