thanks for pm, Zico and I so understand the going for a walk during the assembly - the times I had to do that! or sit there rigid with amazement while someone said yet another contradictory thing... |

geevee, I have stories like that too
one brother uses my parents' place as somewhere where he can just go and complain about congregation stuff and not get into trouble.
then he'll get all righteous and start witnessing at my parents or me if I'm there... but when we tell him the real truth back, he looks shocked and offended!
i want to know why it's OK for JWs to be rude about us - tell us we'll die at Armageddon, that we should be doing this and that - but when we tell them the actual truth of things it's a terrible thing and they say we've been offensive! you can't get more offensive than tell someone they're going to be killed by God....

Those Three Words "I love you"
by Thinking of Leaving inhi everyone, happy friday.
i have a question for the guys and girls on this board.
do you think that the man or the woman should say "i love you" first in a relationship?.

I think you just have to go by instinct
difficult business though - it's the horror stories that put you off, like someone I know was asking us all only a few weeks ago the same question cos she really really loves this guy
don't know if she ever did but within two days of her saying she really wanted to tell him she loves him, he'd emailed to say it was all over...
the fear is fear of loss of pride isn't it... if you can say it and not mind if it's not returned then go for it, I guess

hey PEC, if you have those guys over, make sure it's a padded cell and don't give them knives or anything they could use as weapons -

oh so you mean like people who you'd like to 'expose' as well as just those you lost as friends?
oh i'd love to name some of those names
fact is, really bad things happened to nearly all of the people who caused me and my family such pain - I don't want you to read anything into that but that's the fact of it, just about all of them went on to have tragedies and sadness in their lives
we, on the other hand, have been happy since we left

may I ask a naive question... why do you still go to the assemblies? I don't know you, but it seems to me that if you had to take off for long walks (I used to do that too) and then find things they say objectionable (so did I, every time) you shouldn't really be there? wouldn't you be doing yourself a favour by not going at all?
sorry, not being confrontational and it's none of my business - I just really don't understand ...

someone said to me once - 'we really loved our brothers and sisters, but they didn't love us...' and that's true in the case of those of us who left or who were d/f'd - their love for us was conditional
so yeah, I miss the old bond with them and I did love them but I don't get in touch - they only think there's a chance of getting me back in the org
on a general level, when I left the org I got in touch with some real old friends - a school friend and a uni friend... after a 20 year gap! - and they were really pleased, they were loyal to me even though I'd abandoned them because of the 'truth'

very witty, you folks!
i'll opt for serious reply 'cos I can't match your wit
1. Sacha Baron Cohen (on the pretext that he's clever and funny... but actually because when he's not being Ali G or Borat he's just lovely to look at! mmm)
2. Mahatma Gandhi (no, Ben Kingsley, who played him in the film, will not do! the real thing was wise and sensitive and funny)
3. the apostle John (wow, he saw a whole lot of things over the decades of the first century... nice, loving man, too)

Why Cant You Just Accept That Its The Truth!
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 { font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; } .style2 { font-size: 22px; font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; color: #990000; } .style3 { font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; color: #990000; } --> why cant you just accept that its the truth!problems occur in the jehovahs witness world when an individual decides to think for him or herself.
personally, i suffered a great deal in the truth because of independent thinkingthinking like satan.. what about youre experiences?as a witness, did you feel doubts or questions come into your mind and if you dared, .
voiced your opinion on the matter, were you disciplined for it?

this is how it is IMO
God gave us a brain... most people don't even attempt to use it, which dishonours its/our creator...
God gave us the faculty of conscience... which the WTS has explained way back is individual to each one of us, we can train it.... so if we really want to honour our Creator then we should indeed train it and then use it.... as I used mine when it told me I couldn't stomach the teachings of the WTS any more...
God gave us all we need to fully inform ourselves about the Truth and to use our free will to act accordingly... and how wonderful for Him when we work it all out for ourselves (i.e. without having to be told/instructed) and then choose of our own volition to love him
and as a matter of fact what is the Bible definition of The Truth? check it out.... the Bible says Jesus = The Truth ... whether you like it or not, the Bible (that JWs are so fond of claiming as their own textbook) says Jesus is The Truth...

what did you "sacrifice" when you came in the Truth?
by skyclad ini'm a newbie, bin lurking for days and bin doing so much research from your informative threads that my family think i'm possibly "comin back in the truth" =not!
this is my 1st post so forgive if already done before, but just wondered what you had to "sacrifice to come in the truth?
in my case, i was baptised in early 80's, my study conductor and all the dubs heavily drilled into us young-uns to sacrifice whatever it takes to please the org.

first of all, i dropped out of uni after a year because I wanted to pioneer (and I did, for 20 years). I also stopped all my musical activity even though music had been a really important part of my life. I gradually dropped friends who weren't in the 'truth'. Most of all, I took it seriously when they said don't get married but pioneer because the time's so short. So, I'd be embarrassed when some brother took a liking to me and I wouldn't 'date' because that wasn't encouraged unless you intended to marry that person.
So, when I left at the age of 37, I had no career or career-type experience (I'd done lots of cleaning jobs and so on, because pioneering was the most important thing), and no money. Of course, all my JW friends abandoned me.
But the odd thing is that I've got most of it back - I went back to uni at the age of 37 and went through the whole academic system; I made lots of new friends gradually etc etc
However, it's now too late for me to have children. I'm too old for that. I'm not married and I have difficulties with relationships (because of my background, I think). I cry every day for the children I didn't have, that I gave up because I chose to pioneer because the 'time was short'
