And what is with the deformed hand of the guy in white in front swinging the club. May be I have a wild imagination.

Knowing more than theology students / theologians
by DeusMauzzim ini remember i heard this some times (but not from the platform).
it would go something like: 'oh isn't it wonderful that with the help of the organization we know more about the bible than people who study theology at university?!'.
at least with theology you learn the meaning of difficult words like "biblical litteralism" .

Up untill about 5 years ago I thought I knew a lot about the bible. Then I started actually studing the bible and realized that I didnt really know anthing about it, and most of what I did know was not even correct. I think that is true with most JWS.

Die hard jw's see any problem with Sept km?
by carla inwill die hard jw's see any control issues with the sept km?
i once brought up the fact to my jw that jw's were not allowed to get together informally to do any kind of 'bible' studies without the approval of the elders, gb, etc.. he said that was totally ridiculous and false, more apostate lies.
this was long ago now and i'm not sure he even remembers saying it.

Garybus. I think you have nailed it down pretty good. They are going to do a weeding out process. I think they realize they aren't going to get much larger in growth and have decided to stay status quo. To do that you would have to iliminate any people who think for themselves. Keep all the well programed robots who will keep donating their money. Soon there will be no doubt that they are a cult. They will have people who worship the WTS only.

Were You "Refreshed" After Going To Meetings & Assemblies?
by minimus inthey say that our spiritual food is sooo refreshing!
it's "just what we needed"!.
how did you feel after going out in the ministry or after a meeting?.

logic
I think a lot of people that say they are refreshed are just confused. It is like having a bad tooth that needs to be pulled . You go to the dentist and you are unconfortable, miserable, in pain etc. But when it is all over you feel a heck of lot better. I know that is how I always felt

Freeme...I have been married for 43 years. My wife and I have our ups and downs, mainly because we are both very stubborn people. We came to a realization years ago, we weren't going to change each other. As I read you post It sounded like I was reading about my own situation. Your wife does the same thing as my does to me, and it used to drive me nuts, but you see my wife likes to irritate me that way because she knows I would get upset and through me off. She knows you are right but she also knows she is in the truth. What I learned to do is just make a remark once in awhile and then keep my mouth shut. This has kept us both happy. You just have to rethink your thinking a little. good luck to you.

Jehovah’s organization does not discourage sincere, timely questions, as some opposers mistakenly claim. (1 Peter 1:10-12) However, the Bible counsels that we avoid foolish, speculative questions. (Titus 3:9) Asking reasonable questions and searching God’s Word and Christian publications to find Scriptural answers can increase our accurate knowledge and can thus strengthen our confidence in Jehovah. The organization follows the example of Jesus. He refrained from commenting on questions for which the proper time for answering had not arrived. He explained: "I have many things yet to say to you, but you are not able to bear them at present." (John 16:12) He also admitted that some things he himself did not know at that point.—Matthew 24:36.

1914, Generation doctrine belief change!
by Gill ini had the dubious pleasure of explaining the 1914 generation change doctrine to a relative who has been a jw for all of his life the other day.
he didn't even know that there had been a generation change and that the wt was no longer claiming that those alive in 1914 would still be alive when armageddon struck.. however, he said he would only believe me if i could tell him the exact date of the watchtower that explained this change.. though i know it is 1995, i do not know the exact date/issue and he refused to research it claiming it would show lack of faith on his part if he questioned his beliefs....but he said he would look it up if i told him which issue it was.. so, please, could anyone direct me to the exact issue in which this world shattering event was revealed?.
i remember, many jws, especially elderly ones being shocked at this revelation, but obviously this particular relative was not concentrating at the time!!

logic
Most JWS either don't know,or don't care about any changes. When I had two elders visit me lately we were on the subject of recent changes. They didn;t even know about them. On the subject of the change of the gathering of the annointed, the one elder didn't think that was a change at all. I made him go over the article word by word. He finally realized that the society says right in the article that it has changed, that we don't really know when they are to be gathered. You would think that elders would be more informed, but they are not. During their 'visit' they quoted only two scriptures , which made no sense to me whatsoever. The only other scriptures used were from me. Evidently bible knowledge is not a requirement to becoming an elder.

comparing WTS with Pharisees
by erandir ini had a good discussion saturday night with my witness wife about how the society is basically a modern-day version of the pharisees and how jesus condemned them in his day and how he would condemn the society today.
does anyone have any good points or any insight into comparing the society with pharisees?
anything you have would be helpful so i could get my thoughts together and figure out a way to approach this subject with her in the future whenever it comes up..

logic
Everytime I read about the scribes and pharisees in the bible I invision the society.

Damaging property and driveways in Field Service. The good old days.
by Open mind injust got done reading b_deserter's partial life story and it sent me drifting down memory lane.
this is a long, rambly story, so if you're not in the mood, i'd recommend clicking on another thread.. did you happen to grow up in "god's country?
" you know, a rural or semi-rural part of the country that is far superior morally to the "sin den" i moved to, california?

logic
Man it sure sounds like you and I have been out in field svc together. Ha, ha. I grew up in the 4 corners area. If you came up to the houses like you owned the place, like they do here in california, you might get yourself shot. The dogs would probably eat you, or goats would climb all over your car. We also worked the Indian reservations in the area . You had better use common sense or else suffer some problems. When we worked territory here in california I was amazed how stupid the witnesses were and impolite. The experience you had with driving right up to the front door , where you could look in the door and see the whites of the eyes of the homeowner, and then everybody would argue who was going to get out. has happened to me several times. I would just go ahead and get out and take it myself .
Where I grew up it was considered polite to go to the back door in the country. Hardly anyone used the front door.
You got me to remembering a lot of funny and interesting times from where I grew up. I think that is what kept me sane with the witnessing work. The rest of the time in svc was just miserable crap.
