The wtc can still keep the following by admitting that Nebuchadnezzar effectively gained control of the nations in 609 bc when the egyptians lost the battle to retake Haran. This way they can keep 539 bc which most people agree with. I think they can juggle the dates around a little, and then the scriptures about serving Babylon and still come out with 1914. This would fit in with mainstream historical facts. It would eliminate the big debate about when Jerusalem was destroyed. They would introduce this to the jws in bits and pieces untill the old stuff was forgotten about. This is just my opinion of course.

Can the WTBTS change 1914 and survive?
by jefferywhat inthe society has changed equally as big doctrines in the past, but could this end the illusion?
i have read a lot of leolaia posts and have seen the attempt of scholar to counteract however unconvincingly.
im not after conspiracy, im after fact, could they move the end of the gentile times to 1934/35?

You know it's the Truth though right?
by freedomfighter insince i have been out i have bumped into witnesses at the supermarket where i work, as you do.
some have the balls to say "hi" and "hang in".
others have bigger kahunas and actually talk to me - this doesn't go unappreciated by me.

My question is to all jws , when in the history of the society , did it become the real truth. They admit that they have made changes so does that make the old not true. Obviously with all the changes in the generation thing all of them can't be right. The jws always say it is the truth. It is illogical for it to always have been the truth, unless you are in the twilight zone.

Words you didn't hear at last Sunday's 1st 1/2 hr public talk.
by apocalypse ininteresting to note the words of the brother who gave the final 45 minute public talk in december 2007 at our khall.
he expressed his happiness that it was the last one.
i thought the audience would erupt in a hoorah!.

If they reduced all the meetings to one hour on sunday morning jws would truly become a happy people.

JW IQ's. Below average? (Includes SM anecdote.)
by Open mind inare dub bulbs just a little dimmer than the general population?
here's a little highlight from this week's local service meeting that prompts my question.. it's the annual, 20 minute, robotic hand-pumping session conducted by the secretary trying to get everyone all hyped/guilted up for this summer's district convention.
anyway, towards the end of the q&a, there's a paragraph that talks about offering a ride to the elderly/infirm ones in your congo.

I have been asked many times why I don't answer at the meetings. The last time the question came from my friend and Elder on the last sheperding call. My answer has always been that I feel stupid answering a question that is so obvious . I mean what the heck is the point. Especially the usual last question in the watchtower study articles that ask what will be the next article we will be studing. To me that seems to be question you would ask a two year old, but the adults seem to have to have no imbarassment in answering it. As I told my friend and the other Elders that this type of question and answer method of study has been proven to be a highly ineffective method of learning. Of course all I have ever gotten as a reaction is a blank stare. If the average jw did have a high iq , they will not have any opportunity to show it.

The Earthly Hope for the thief on the cross?
by Honesty insince jesus died first and the curtain in the temple was torn in two did the thief share in the earthly or the heavenly hope?.
so the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man and of the other one who had been crucified with him.
when they came to jesus, they did not break his legs since they saw that he was already dead.

The apostles followed Jesus right from the start and as far as I know they had never heard of him and they were promised to be with him in heaven. It seems that Jesus picks who he wants, there may be no set criteria. With the holy spirit a person may get an instant education about Jesus. You may not have to go through the ordeal that the jws put you through to accept Jesus. The trouble with religion in general is that they can create pre-conceived ideas in people's minds that are hard to remove later on. That is why everyone should search the scriptures their selves.

I think the noose just tightened a bit.
by 5go inwe had an interesting local needs.. first it clearly stated if you are not making all the meetings you will not make it in to the new system period no exceptions.
they twisted the story of the red sea to make an example.
saying you can not disobey once, or else you be left stuck in the bottom of the red sea.. from now on the elders will be making shepherding calls on those that are not attending regularly.. also, it was stated that if you know of any not attending regularly.

I agree with what some posters here said awhile back. The society is going to have a campaign to eliminate those who are not kissing their behinds. I always tell people who want to give me advise, that I don't think they are any better than I am , and if they think they are, then explain to me why. There is nothing funnier that someone trying to explain why they are better than you are.
Every visit I have had from the Elders just turned out bad for them. They couldn't wait to get out the door. I never let them off the hook. They all have the same or worse problems than I do. Financial problems , marital problems, kid problems , personality problems the list can go on and on. So I have always wondered why I need their advise. I like the saying ' if I need any crap from you I will scrape it off your teeth ' , it is a vulgar and okie saying , but it's how I feel about it. I've always felt that if people want advice they will usually ask for it. The elders think they have a right to force their ideas down your throat.
The elders read me two scriptures that didn,t even make any sense as to what they were wanting to say, then the rest of the time it was just their opinions. I never tell them anything about myself that they can use, and I don't let my feelings run away. I just try to keep the subject on them and they hate that.
I do believe that they are going to change everything to try get people like me, who doesn't go out in field service and very seldom attend meetings, out of the organization. The new watchtower is the start. The study articles are about being yielding, believe me they are going to get worse.

The Bad Songs
by WTWizard ini can remember coming into the organization.
at the time, they wanted me to get rid of any music that didn't fit.
of course, that meant the heavy metal that was common at that time.

I never paid any attention to what the society said about most everything. I kept all my albums, approx 300. Letting some idiots tell you how to live , when they dont have a clue, is ridiculous. Music is a matter of taste and everybody is different. My least favorite music is the kingdom songs on cds. That stuff drives me up the wall. Some jws including my wife say they really like it. I told them that was bull. The stuff is not only poorly done but it sounds like it was recorded on very poor equipment. I have old 78's that sound better. If all I had to listen to was this crap I would just not listen to anything.

Get out of her "My People"
by JH inif babylon the great is the false religion, why does someone in heaven call them "my people"?
does this mean that god has followers in other religions?
or maybe babylon the great is not what the jw's think it is.. .

Years ago I took the advise from someone on the internet to imagine that the book of revelation was written before 70 a.d. before the destruction of jerusalem. That babylon the great was in fact jerusalem, and the people who were told to get out of her were the christians, who actually did get out of the city. I have read it carefully several times this way. He said it would make alot more sense to you if this book of revelation was mostly fulfilled. Of course this is called preterism which I favor mostly. There are parts of rev. in the last 2 chapters that I have questions about which actually makes me in favor of semi-preterism.
The trouble with modern religion is that the want rev. to be in the future, which they have been doing for 2,000 years. My question finally became which made more sense, something that has already happened and fits the description perfectly, or something that may happen that vaguely fits the description.
Of course this is just my own opinion . I have always had an open mind and have read enormous amounts of information on the subject. There are so many interesting ideas who babylon the great is and most of them are not only silly but have been proving wrong over and over. I place the jws in the same category.

Here we go. Be yeilding. They compare reasonableness to yeilding. Now it starts , yeilding to the society. [ You can be reasonable and not yeild and you can yeild but not be reasonable. ] I always hated the way the society just makes up their own crap and then tells the sheeple to swallow it with question.

When I sold cars, my boss took in the worse car I had seen. It was a 61 ford. Someone painted it with barn red latex house paint, chrome trim bumpers, everything but the lites. not floor coverning and hardly any upholstery there was so much dirt on the floor that some onions laying in the back floor were growing quite robustly. I had to pop the trunk open, and there I found about 100 lbs of rusty tools, some of which I salvaged. My boss could not explain why he took it in trade. A customer came in and wanted to buy it for the motor which ran like a dream. I told him he could have it for one dollar, only if he removed it out of the site of the lot and my eyes.. When he returned I gave him the title.
I realize this didn't quite fit your question , but I had to tell the story.
