I always wanted children but it was not high on my list of priorities. My career always came before anything. I was 36 when I became a father and no one was more shocked than me. It will probably happen when you least expect it.

I wrote a longer post but lost it. I have taken to heart everything that has been posted. I find the shunning stories the most hard to read.
Scully,
I remember unbeliever telling me about her mum doing that but I did not really think anything of it at the time. Very disturbing especially about the part where she says that is the only spiritual nourishment he will ever get. He was even born yet. Unbeliever's dad told me his ex wife was crazy. Your idea about my family being involved is a good one as well. They live in the UK but come and visit often. He will grow up with normal grandparents.
LovesDubs,
Your post really freaked me out. Bird food eh?? Before she see the baby again I am going to have to talk to her especially about shunning. Unbeliever's sister is excommunicated from the witnesses. I don't want my son to think the way his grandmum treats his aunt is okay. I read a post earlier today where a family was inviting family members to gatherings but not the excommunicated one and they would ignore them. That is horribly rude and such bad manners. Not to mention emotionally abusive. You have given me a lot to think about.

When is it time to tell your adult children get the Blank out?
by avidbiblereader into me there is a definite difference in my generation and the one coming after me, when i graduated you basically had three choices.
military, college or a fulltime job which meant more than 40 and you were expected to grow up, today kids are seen as postponing this for years, it reminds me of the proverbs 29:21 kjv says .
21 he that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.. when is it time to push the little birds from the nest and tell them to flap real hard?.

I have a sister who is pushing 40 and still lives at home with mum and dad. She claims depression but her real problem is she is lazy. She worked very briefly at my company. I sacked her a month later.

Who are you?
Can I ask what happened? Did your MIL try and turn your child against you?
Xena
How old is your daughter? Has your family tried to turn your child against you?

I suggest you do some reading on it because you need to take your significant other seriously when she tells you she is right to be very upset about this stuff.
I am taking this seriously. Two days ago she was threatening to end our relationship and "show me the door". Believe me I am taking this seriously. I am trying very hard to be the voice of reason here. He will never see the inside of a Kingdom Hall again. I've already told unbeliever's mum that she can't talk about her religious beliefs or take him to church EVER. I really think it's in the best interest of the baby she be given a second chance. I already told unbeliever I would there the whole time. I don't know what more I can do.

The faithful and discreet slave
by Ryan1 ini have been doing a bit of research into the witnesses.
i have been told the faithful and discreet slaves reside in brooklyn ny.
these men believe they are appointed by god to lead the jehovah's witnesses and run a publishing company.. what scriptures do they use to back up this claim?.

LittleToe,
I read the link you posted. They won't be letting you back on the pulpit anytime soon. I can understand why you would do that. I would rather resign before letting them fire me.
I will take your advice and read the personal experience section. I feel I will learn more that way instead of trying to understand Jehovah's Witness doctrine.

Just to clarify and make sure I understand.
1) The slave is made up of 144,000 that reside in heaven.
2) The governing body or board members of the Jehovah's Witness call the shots. If you question their "authority" you get excommunicated.
The reason I asked is because I heard conflicting information. I have a clearer picture of their leadership structure. Thank you for your help.

I have also been told that if you question their authority you are excommunicated. Has anyone here been excommunicated for questioning the authority of the faithful and discreet slave?

Why can't he let himself be happy?
by emilyblue ini'm in love with a man who is a witness.
i am a pretty inactive protestant, meaning my parents were only able to drag me to church twice a year on christmas eve and easter morning.
he told me early into our relationship that he wanted to marry me and spend the rest of his life with me, and that he has never felt the love for anyone else like he does for me.

Last week he found a book about Josephine Bonapart, Napolean's wife, on my bookshelf. He opened it up to a page on which a voodoo priestess predicted she would one day be queen. It freaked him out and I had to remove the book from my apartment. He then told me the next day that while I was out walking my dogs, he heard a cell phone ringing in my apt, except there was no cell phone there. Then he went home and had a really bad dream. He thinks evil spirits are attempting to contact me since I stopped going to meetings and keep cancelling my bible study. Then he distanced himself after I said that was ridiculous and it was probably just job stress causing him to imagine things.
Does he have a history of mental illness?
