Sincere Question to Anyone who Believes in God

lately it's occurred to me that one day i will die.

being raised in a cult that teaches you, you will live forever without dying will warp perspectives.

and i've been working hard on coming to terms with that realization, and it's becoming more and more okay.

Well for me personally, I have recently come to know and believe that God keeps track of the GOOD deeds you do. I believe that he forgives the bad and multiplies the good. (of course this is contingent on your intentions and attitude toward each)

I've shared some rather personal, and intense details about an abusive childhood here, and frankly coupled with a cruel cult my life, so far, sucks. And what I'm dealing with currently isn't much better

With regard to this statement, I firmly believe that those who suffer in this life and seemingly have nothing to show for all their hard work, good deeds, and faith, can look forward to a far greater reward in a place where it will be for all eternity.

Either way I see the afterlife, if there is one, as being even more grim than this life.

I am curious to know why you feel this way. If there is an afterlife, why would it be grim? What exactly do you see it as? Do you feel that you are unworthy of a good afterlife?

It is hard for me to answer EXACTLY with how I feel since I don't want to impose MY beliefs upon you. All I can say is that I believe that God cares about each and every one of us and that our experiences in this life are not ignored. Hope this helps if even just a little. jelcat

love and marriage was the watchtowers way an advantage?the thought of one man and woman bonded through matrimony was always appealing.

the society used to stress chaperons, however, i think in todays day and age.

however, did the societys way prove helpful in certain respects?.

I believe that because JW's don't really get into relationships before the one they end up marrying, they don't get to know what they want in a person and what they don't want. I knew of two people who were "dating" and when they broke it off, everyone judged them for it. You're supposed to marry the person you date!!! I think that's just silly, not to mention irresponsible!

These JW's get married soooooooooo young!! It's crazy! One theory I heard is that since JW's don't agree with higher education that when these young people in the org. graduate high school, there is nothing left for them to do but to pioneer and get married!! They never have time to be themselves and just LIVE for a while! If you're out of school, not pioneering, and not married you're looked at like a freak!! I know I was! Everyone was always asking me when I was going to get married, or they were trying to console me for still being single ... like it was depressing o something!!!! UGH!!!

While I personally don't believe in sex before marriage, I am VERY grateful that I have been able to date and have relationships with many different people so that I could find qualities that I liked or disliked! I am now with the man of my dreams!

I have also since changed my mind about divorce! Someone once asked me, "wouldn't you rather know that your husband was still with you after 20 years because he WANTED to still be with you? Instead of him still being with you because he had no other way out since divorce is not allowed?" That made me think!

As for dictating what happens between a husband and wife in the bedroom .... HELL NO!!!!!!

I guess I am trying to say that I think I still carry with me some of the WT teachings on marrage, but MANY of them have gone out the window!

NBC News shows no integrity

i'm pretty upset after watching the crap on msnbc last night.. they kept milking the story about their package from that psycho, constantly flashing his photos and videos on the screen--just the way he envisioned it.. repeatedly the psychological experts they interviewed told them that this course of action would only serve to encourage others.. meanwhile they interview the president of nbc news, who talked about the "careful" consideration about what to do with the contents of the package, deciding to "immediately" turn it over to investigators.

(but apparantly not until they copied some of the videos and photos).. for their rationale on their decision to air these materials, all they could offer was, "if we didn't do it, some tabloid would have done it".

they were the only ones that got the stuff!.

Take a look at what one NBC reporter wrote on this subject and then read the comments below. I'm not sure what he was thinking in writing a piece like this. It is, for lack of a better word, irresponsible!

I agree entirely with the fact that the showing of this disturbed man's manifesto was completely unnecessary! They are allowing this man's actions to have the victory even in his death, which was his plan exactly!

The whole thing is just so sad!

hey FireNBandits!! You must have been reading my mind!! I was just about to start a thread about this VERY subject!!

I decided to create an account and post a reply! I told the man Walter that he was a sad sad man and that he was a poor excuse for a christain. He has used racial slurs and ethnic stereotypes all over his thread. I expressed utter disgust at his comments and, yes I insulted him, as he was insulting every other person on the board. A few minutes later ... MY POST WAS DELETED!!! So then, I posted again expressing surprise at the double standard on the board. I challenged the site owner/moderater to be a man and allow someone who has a different oppinion to post. I told him he was making himself look bad by allowing the insulting language HE AGREED with to remain while deleting mine. He in turn deleted that post as well!!! This was followed shortly by my expulsion from the forum altogether! Yes folks, that's right! This poor ignorant whiny child (the site owner/moderater) BLOCKED me from his site!!! Just goes to show how closed minded and ignorant some people are. He has insulted Native Americans, African-Amiricans and Latino's, and many others. Basically anyone he doesn't like gets lumped into these groups acording to their nationality, race, sexual orientaion, or religion!

there are many things the bible says christians could do and things the bible describes christians doing that, according to their doctrine, jws can't do.. christians could talk directly to jesus.

(acts 7:54-60; acts 9:3-16) can you?

christians could decide for themselves which days they chose to observe without any fear of religious retribution.

ANewLeif: You started a subject discussing JW's, yes that is true. However, you are discussing them as to whether or not they are "Christians". It is only fair that the guidlines for what defines "Christianity" would be discussed, (and not just your guidlines but those of others, including Terry) Right? It seems here that YOU are the one changing the subject by taking it in an argumentative defensive direction. This is a DISCUSSION board, which means that there will be dissagreements and other viewpoints. JW's may not seem "christain" to you but to those of us who have LIVED it, that is just not the case. We make no excuses for the WTS. We agree that their doctrines, prophecies, and rules are, as you so delicately put it, hores***t. What we are trying to say is that those following these guidelines are for the most part, honesthearted people who believe in Christ, his sacrifice, his mediation, and that he redeems them form their sins. And to touch on it once again, why are you so stuck on the fact that they don't pray to Jesus? GOD is the creator and the almighty and the one who gives life and death ... Not JESUS!

I don't really think that it is a matter of Christain or not. It is a matter of them being misguided and blinded. The WTS has twisted the minds of the r&f so much, it's sickening. Do I think the WTS behave like christains? No. If they were they would not always be needing to side step their own doctrines and come up with new ones to make things fit. Do I think the majority of the r&f behave like christians? Yes. They use Christ as their mediator when praying. They highly value the sacrifice of christ. No matter where they will end up living after it's all over (heaven or earth) they all feel and believe Christ has redeemed them from their sins. Why does one need to speak directly to Christ? Only God has the power to answer prayers. So they pray through Christ, not to Christ. I don't see how this makes them unchristain.

ok, so i'm a boring person who stays at home on weekends and don't go out much.

maybe not so much boring but tired, and i'm a 33 year old wife and mom who doesn't need (or want) to be out galavantin' around town on saturday night.

so...back to the subject in question: i'm probably going to stick to my favorite: crushed ice in a tumbler, a glug of absolut vodka, some cranberry juice, topped off with a splash of orange juice.
