New movie by Mel Gibson 'Hacksaw ridge'

i just went to a pre screening of this movie about an adventist guy who didn't want to kill but joined the army as a medic on the front line.

desmond doss saved 75 men in one operation singlehanded on the island of okinawa where desmond worked lowering men down a 400ft cliff to safety.. i thought this may be of interest to jws because of the pacifist stand they also have.. the movie comes out on the 4 th november..

I live in Australia , born in 1939 ,if all Christian religions in my country refused to go to war in the year of 1939 I hate to think of what life would be like now People think of the Japanese as they are now

I remmber the Japanese as they were during the war years,

And the same can be said of the germans with Nazis in control

I hate to think what the world especially Australia would be like if we were all here pacifists.

For Christians the Bible in Rom .12 authorises the powers that be Govts,Police ,law enforcements to render judgement and executioner for those who go against the authority of the existent Govt and sanctioned by God.

While I can admire the heroic events of this one soldier in doing what he did , in his circumstances I would be appalled if the whole country took the same stand and allowing an invading force to do what they liked with this country.

Is that a contradiction ? its just my observation at this time.

What Comes After the Watchtower Collapse?

i was going to put this in my thread about pyramid schemes, but i thought it's discreet enough to warrant its own.

1) there are many faithful jws.

2) there are many men and women who could take control and fill the void if the watchtower collapses.

Its wishful thinking schnell , think of the Assemblys of God religion , started by Herbert W.Armstrong , and the Plain Truth magazine that was freely given out to anybody who wanted one.A high gloss magazine at that putting the WT to shame .Long before the WT was virtually made to give them away for free.

And very similar to WT teachings about the End Times and daniels prophecys and Armageddon

They went through a tumultous time some years ago , and actually came out and apologised to their members for getting things wrong and re-invented themselves under a new name and are still going strong.although with a reduced membership .

The IBSA started by C.T.Russell , re-invented themselves under J.F.Rutherford and became Jehovahs Witnesses , dont be surprised if a future leader of the now existing JW religion again re-invent themselves into something else when things dont turn out the way the are now predicting.And you can bet your bottom dollar they will still have followers.

Question: Can't You Just Ignore A Judicial Committee?

one thing i've never understood is judicial committees.

yes, i understand it's held to see if elders should go through with the disfellowshipping process.

but why give them all the power?

If they have you or your cousin in their sights they wont give up , you become a challenge to them ,so why not get the draw on them and DA ? That way you are DF them from yourself , its a win situation for you .

And you are taking their power away from them , you have beaten them to the punch .

Dont do anything and they DF you , giving them the power over you.They go on their way all self righteous thinking they have kept the congregation clean from your influence.

Just my 2 cents worth.

So does the Almighty God Jehovah make mistakes, or is the society NOT his spokesman?

the society claims to be jehovah gods sole channel on earth - his spokesman.. if any witness disagrees with this claim, they are branded as an apostate and punished.. but the society has made countless errors over the century, and repeatedly changed doctrines and beliefs.

not to mention the appalling foundation teachings of the organisation's teachings!

so a simple question: is god making msistakes and getting things wrong, or is this proof that the society is not guided by god?.

stuck , both points you make are true. If one believes the Bible ,the OT is full of Gods mistakes.

And the statement that " God is the same today as he was yesterday and will be tomorrow" is disproved by the addition of the New Testament teachings.

And what can we say about the JW Society with their apalling record over this past Century , they chop and change their position at the drop of a hat.

If the GB changed a major teaching, would all witnesses just go along with it?

so if the gb changed its "bible based beliefs" on some teaching, would witnesses all of a sudden change their individual beliefs too?.

witnesses like to claim that "their bible trained hearts and minds" make them believe as they do, but we know that the reality is that all witnesses hold their "deep seated beliefs" according to what they have been told to believe.. so what would cause the average witness to question those that dictate their "personal convictions"??.

Sooner or later the GB wil change the 1914 teaching or at least revise it ,and the JW`s would just go along with it. Why ? because major changes have occured before and the majority just accept it.

EG; The End didn`t arrive in 1914 like they predicted

The faithful men of old werent resurrected in 1925 as they predicted

The 6000 years of human history was first thought to have occured in the late 18th century and then was revised to end in 1975 ,with the start of JC millenial reign was to begin .It didnt happen of course.

The end of the system of things and Armageddon was going to happen before the end of the 20th Century it didnt happen .

All of the anointed were supposed to be dying off as the years got closer to the end ,and what do we see? their numbers are increasing every year.

The ludicrous teaching of an overlapping generation of Jesus prophecy .

All of these failed predictions have meant a change in core doctrines that was taught as the "TRUTH" and if you didnt accept them at the time you would have been disfellowshiped

The majority of witness have gone along with these changes without batting an eyelid.

I have only touched the surface of previous changes their were many more.

as i am currently disfellowshipped, i have no one else to discuss these things with.

even if i was actively associated with the dubs, i suppose i'd still have no one else to discuss this with.

Welcome to the forum unbeliever ,isnt it ironic that you identify yourself as theunbeliever yet you still go to the meetings ,I guess you have good reason to.

As far as commenting on how JW`s render this verse or that verse you would no doubt find a lot more scriptures they "doctor" to fit their beliefs such as John 1:1 you know the one.

In the KI translation of the Greek text says that "the word was God" and in their english translation/ interpretation they say "a" God

I look forward to hearing more of your story , just be careful not to disclose anything that would identify you.

1006 cases of child sexual abuse covering decades and handled by JW judicial committees and not one case of an Elder reporting it to the child protection authorities or the police.

However if an incident resulting in willful damage to a Kingdom hall ? call the police imediately .

Go figure.

Sounds like they are very trusting with the brothers/sisters ? { where applicable} with their honesty and not trying to rip off the organizations funds ? . LOL

No books bags purses or similar items are permitted around or under the counting tables when money is being counted and recorded on the reciept forms.

Arent these people doing these jobs supposed to be exemplary above reproach and trusted servants of Jehovah ?

It makes you wonder who of the anointed class ruling from heaven over all mankind for the next thousand years has an agenda all of his / her own .

In that time I was not a JW and I was balloted out of being conscripted , however it was not long after I became a JW,how lucky was I.

" "the governing body is neither inspired, nor infallible, therefore it (they/we) can err in doctrinal matters or in organizational direction .".

have the many jehovahs witnesses past and present who have lost their lives by refusing blood transfusions due to the prohibition on blood tranfusions by jehovahs witnesses really got the sense of this statement ?.

And hasnt the Anointed class increased in numbers these past years despite the Governing Body saying for decades that the number would be decreasing ? as the Great tribulation / Armageddon was drawing near ?

Wouldnt that mean they were not spirit directed by Jehovah ?

I wonder how many who claim to be of the Anointed class ,could come together as a united group to challenge the existing Governing Body members to their authority to preside over the Christian Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses.

And what has always puzzled me is , why a person who claims to be of the Anointed class has no say whatsoever in their local congregations ,no priveledges and is generally viewed as suspect.

However , when it comes to appointing a new GB member their is no question as to his claim to be of the Anointed class ,it is approved unanimously .

Keeping in mind they are not inspired nor spirit directed . ....they can err.
