Why get "personal" when discussing a topic?

trading insults happens among kids all the time.. intellectual development hasn't progressed to the point where they can present contrary ideas and opinions with persuasive appeal to reasons, facts and logic.. "i know you are; but what am i?".

"your momma's so fat....".

so, they fall back on childish mocking, provocation and personal attack.. as we grow older and have more education and sophistication our minds should mature---or so you'd think!.

Both comments are from newbies here who know almost nothing about JW related debates and probably have never helped anyone from leaving the WTS. They want us to blow in their ears and pat them on the back. Sorry, if you make a crappy argument, it is still a crappy argument and I will not mollify you. You want to be mollified? See a therapist and pay $200 per hour to let him or her listen to your bullshit.

Nearly all of the time I attack the ARGUMENT and not the arguer. Only when the arguer attacks me or my motives personally do I deliver my venom. If you think I'm lying, then make a list of all my attacks in say, the last 5 years and sort them by 1) attacks on the argument and 2) personal attacks when they didn't draw first blood on me.

You newbies are a joke: whining little babies who want to be patted on the back and have everyone whisper in your ear how smart you are.

There. That's an ad hominem for you.

I could be wrong but I think this is really old news that was revealed in here around 10 years ago or so.

What I recall (and you can correct me if I'm wrong) is the WTS told the Bulgarian government that they did not automatically disfellowship members who took blood to save their lives. This is TRUE, and given just that statement, the WTS did not lie.

As you and I and any other informed person knows, of COURSE a DF is not automatic. FIRST they have a JC, and THEN they DF the person who took blood. So you see it is not automatic. The WTS deceived the Bulgarian government just like they deceive their members and their new recruits and even strangers at the doors in their recruiting "ministry."

It's no different than a US President saying "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." They are both lies by omission.

i had to start this thread in light of today's watchtower study.

in paragraph 14,15 they mention the grounds for separation.

no scriptures are sighted but i am well aware of the support they usually use.. i am so sick of the watchtower making crap up!

As blondie pointed out, you got it wrong twice. It's "cited." I'm not bothered by that, though. We all do stuff like that, but, well, WERE you home-schooled?

I take it you are very young, and got screwed in your education like my children did. Master the English language and you will go further with that knowledge than you ever dreamed you could go. That and your ability to write English properly will take you further in life than all the Watchtowers ever written could ever do.

Trust me. I know what I'm talking about.

basically that you can bet on god and receive an infinite reward, or you can bet against him and live an easier life for 80 years.

this guy proves that the wager is really misstated.. .

It didn't keep Sigmund Freud from being a cocaine addict. Maybe that was the source of his "real psychology." I certainly wouldn't want a drug addict to take my fragile ego and mess with it. Ok. Maybe it is not that "fragile", but it's still my ego.

Seriously, psychology is more an art than a science. I was in therapy for quite a while after my divorce. I hated the notion of me going into therapy, but the therapist was a pretty kewl guy.

It didn't take me long, though, to figure out that he was nothing more than a shoulder to cry on and someone who would let me whine and rant for hours on end. I finally concluded that (at least in my experience) psychology was nothing more than "having a best friend you can talk with, can vent with and who will never judge you. He was merely a "best friend" that most people never really have in life. Now, THAT is a tragedy. My melodrama was no tragedy because of that epiphany I had during that time.

I assert without any evidence whatsoever that a genuine best friend is the best therapy for those with minor neuroses and short-term setbacks. Best of all, best friends don't charge $300 per hour!

For seriously fucked-up people, well that is a different matter. Perhaps more prayer to an imaginery friend, regular meeting attendance, studying "Bible Based" literature and field service is just the ticket!

Did you pick-up many people for the meetings??

i was a regular taxi for alot of people.. we (wife & family) pick up one sister and her 2 children for many years ...he husband had walked out on her and we did'nt mind.. however when we were asked by the cobe wife to pick up and elderly and infermed bro a 3 day assembly (we had 3 young children) i said no.. we pased her and her daughter traviling alone to the assembly.. .

I did; some of them lived as much as 12 miles from the local Kingdom Hall.

I made them all walk home, though. I wasn't "reaching out" so much, I guess.
