  One more question NOW with my answer

  god tested abraham by telling him to sacrafice his son issac.

  since god is omniscient (knows all, knows the end from the beginning) he already knew abraham would go through with it unless god stopped him.

  what was the purpose of this test?.

  :The test wasn't for God to see what would happen, but rather it was a lesson for Abraham.

  What lesson would that be? That he wouldn't think twice about hacking up and roasting the only son of his old age because some vainglorious tribal God asked him to do so?

  If that tribal God was so smart, why did he need to "test" Abram at all? He should have known beforehand what Abram would do. If he knew beforehand what Abram would do, the whole exercise was a waste of time and no doubt scared the crap out of Isaac. So what was the point except to shave a few years off of Isaac's life due to the sheer terror he must have had. If that God didn't know beforehand, that God is not all-knowing.

  Therefore, that story is bogus.

  i have two questions, mostly for commited christians, though i'm sure somehow, that others will reply too.. 1) does prayer change god or his mind?.

  2) if not, why pray?.

  i have my own opinion on the subject, but i may be adjusting my understanding of god.. have fun!.

  :God changed his mind when he was going to destroy Nineveh because once Jonah got there and preached what he was supposed to, the people repented. Was it a result of prayers, though, or of people repenting because they heard Jonah's message?

  Exactly. There are only two possibilities:

  1) Prayer does not change God's mind, therefore praying is a worthless exercise.

  2) Prayer does change God's mind, therefore God is not omniscient.

  Was It Too Much For My Dub In The Pub?

  i'm feeling a little disappointed with my jw pal, the dub in the pub.. we were having a good conversation over a few beers, and i actually got him to admit that he couldn't see the connection between the parable about the fds and the 144,000 any more than i could.. yes, yes, yes!

  Dubs always do that when they have no arguments. They are fleeing to the safety of the Bible's version of "Jehovah," who coincidentally has no arguments that make sense, either. Birds of a feather, and all of that.

  Of course none of this matters. God is going to KILL you, anyway!

  i am often confused by many of the double standards jdubs employ.

  they're always worried about how other jdubs view their actions.

  many of them say they won't do "such and such" because it would offend their god jehovah.

  You didn't mention you provided the solution within about sixty seconds of posing the problem. Is that your definition of "stumping" someone? Your excuse was that someone else had said they had given up so I guess you had assumed everyone had given up. I was still thinking about it when you decided to post the answer.

  If you are going to make statements like you did and use people's names, at least provide all the facts first.
