one of the most painful things i continue to see here on this forum as well as all the others is that many who want to leave wt simply don't know how to leave and remain "intact" as it were.. i recall talking with jw who "formally disassociated themselves back in the 70s and it was not till the 90s and the net did they finally feel free.

or many who jump up and write a letter off to mo larry and curly (congregation service committee).

while i feel there is absolutely nothing wrong with writing a letter for many it is a matter of.

While I can understand why people are motivated to write a DA letter to get their anger and disappointments off their chests, like you, I do not generally reccommend it.

The reason is simple: by turning in such a letter you are playing by their rules and are recognizing their authority. That still gives them power over you. If one merely states "I don't recognize your authority over me. You have NO authority over me any longer. I'm take BACK my own life, and the lot of you can go to hell," it would accomplish the same thing and perhaps even piss them off more than any letter.

for the majority of humans, certain events are surrounded by tradition and ritual.

marriage, the birth of children, entrance into adulthood, and death are all life-events which will be marked by most with a form of religious ceremony.

for the few who have left off affiliation with a religious organization, these events are marked differently - more by tradition than by mystic ritual.

just like to comment on the brain deadening effect of the jw way of life.

it's bizarre how completely oblivious they are to major issues such as doctrinal changes !

it's like they just calmly accept anything the org says without engaging their thought processes.. the 'generation' change was pretty amazing and would affect their door-to-door message in a big way yet it seemed to be met with a collective shrug.. i can remember triumphantly waving matt24:34 in many an impatient householders face as conclusive proof the end was nigh.. even more baffling is the fact that if i had been a bit of a swat and decided the society had got it wrong and the generation referred to the wicked generation rather than a generation of people alive in 1914 who would witness the end i would probably have been in big trouble and labelled 'apostate'.. it's as if the worldwide congregation is in a trance.

I was born and raised in that nonsense, and I was definitely braindead and in a WTS trance. I'm a fairly smart guy and I went braindead. One cannot survive in WatchtowerWorld(tm) without being braindead. I was mesmerized by their seductive talk, and even when it didn't quite right gel with me, I figured that THEY must know better than me! HAHAHAHAH! Most of the current GB never even finished HIGH SCHOOL!! They were Watchtower worker-bees who worked their way up the ranks over the decades. We have idiots with senority who lead this cult now. Nothing more.

No. Fred Franz dropped out of the University in (I believe) Cincinatti, Ohio mid-way through his junior year to join the Bible Students. He did make application for a Rhodes Scholarship and he did get on a list which would have allowed him to continue with the screening process. That is NOT the same as an "offer" of a scholarship from the Rhodes Foundation. Had he continued with the process, he may have THEN been offered a scholarship, or he it may not have been offered to him. The society is very misleading about this matter and the matter of Franz's formal education.

: If not, why did he testify under oath that he was offered one, and why was this information published in Watch Tower publications?

Someone wrote to the Rhodes foundation about Franz and asked them if they had offered him a scholarship. They replied emphatically, "NO", that he was only a memeber of the group that made the first screening. I've seen the scan.

Franz was a liar and the WTS are liars. Simple.

That line was from "Forward You Witnesses," and in fact is probably one of the best melodies in any of the songbooks. It makes a nice transition from the key of D minor to B flat major. That song and the lyrics were composed by JWs while in German concentration camps during WWII.

At least that's what the society told us. Of course, the society also told use that 10,000 dubs perished in those camps, but finally admitted decades later that the number was only several hundred.
