DOCTRINE SHOPPING: How the Governing Body became the new MAJESTERIUM
by Terry inthe catholic church is founded upon majesterium which is the doctrine that jesus began a long succession of priests who administered his kingdom work and education through peter and his subsequent popes.
moreover, jesus gave this catholic church the right to make policy which heaven would back up with divine authority.. the protestant reformation nullified this idea by presenting a rival doctrine of sola scriptura which is the doctrine that no priesthood is necessary for an individual human being.
sola scriptura says one man and one bible is what god will work through directly as long as jesus is invoked as the mediator.. the governing body of jehovah's witnesses coalesce around the doctrine that the majesterium applies to them as "anointed" and no lone ranger christian can go around them.. when pastor russell produced his studies in the scriptures it was promoted as superior to reading the bible itself.

You're wrong Hellrider. He came up with the "jellyfish" creepiness and the Miracle Wheat fiasco. Plus I think it was his original idea to not be original. Maybe he even thought up the idea that Christians aren't part of the New Covenant. Probably not though.

Silly Things You Can Do For Which Jehovah Will Kill You...
by gaiagirl ini was thinking about all the various people who the bible says have been killed by jehovah or his angels for various acts of disobedience.
here are a few of the ones i thought of....feel free to add your own eating a piece of fruit (slow death, 930 years) picking up some sticks on the sabbath preventing the ark of the covenant from falling when the guy carrying it stumbles living in a city where your family has lived for generations, in a region where jehovah has "given" the land to his "chosen" people dancing for your victorious warrior father, not knowing he has vowed to offer the first one out of the house as a burnt offering.

Hi Keith. Your "scriptures" are pretty damned silly too. Pay attention to what you're reading.

The history of Bible religion PERIOD is a history awash in gore. It's all puke, puke and excrement. "We have the really true truth!" "What Truth is that?"

Did God ever Exist?
by found-my-way inreading so many posts on atheism which is the belief that there is no god, and reading comments from creationists made me ponder if there was an alternate reason for our existence.. if god is up there, why does he permit suffering?
if i were god, i wouldn't of let it happen in the first place, these are my children, why would i let them suffer?
maybe i am influenced by my creationist upbringing and beliefs while a jw, because i find it hard to wrap my brain around the idea that everything came from nothing.

Narkissos! Oh ye of great and little faith! Dispeller of darkness, dreamer of dreams! Your posts are on a par with those of Leolaia. Greetings and permutations. I have great news! I met a businessman yesterday and I am negotiating with him to buy the Eiffel Tower. It's going to be torn down for scrap iron soon and be replaced by an even taller concrete obelisk. The obelisk will have a McDonalds at the top. I want a Royale with cheese. Anyway, I'm going to get the scrap metal for like a dollar per ton! Can you believe it? Hehehe. -Saint Martin of Tours

Hey Found-My-Way. What if "God" is a figment of the human imagination? At least the Theist/Deist/Polytheist/Henotheist version? What if "God" is the Ground and Source of all Being, the sum total of all that is? What if the space-time continuum is Consciousness? Not personal consciousness but Consciousness itself? Not conscious OF any "thing" unless it is manifesting as a cosmos? Then it is "God" who is suffering and pleasuring, dying and being born, etc. This is the reality I discovered. I call this supreme reality Universal Mind for want of a better term. It's useful.
When you die all you take with you is whatever degree of selfless Love you've learned and developed. I get asked if one ceases to exist at death. The answer is yes and no, no and yes. Does a drop of water cease to exist when it returns tothe ocean? Yes. No.

Beth Sarim Revisited 4 Newbies
by Farkel inat 4440 braeburn road, san diego, ca., in the rich and prestigious neighborhood of the kensington heights neighborhood sits one of the biggest embarrassments in the long and continuing list of embarrassments the watchtower society has created for itself.. most dubs know nothing about it, and if it wasnt for a few brief comments about it in the proclaimers book in 1993, even fewer dubs would know anything at all about it.. it is the home once known as beth-sarim (pronounced beth-sareeeem), the house of the princes.. it is a house with a history the society has shown by its historical lack of candor, hopes everyone would forget.
in fact, the society has done just about everything it could do to ensure that its history will be forgotten.
in the first book devoted to discussing the history of jehovahs witnesses, this house and its history is not even mentioned.
