I definately agree that catholic charity is a good thing- and they are quite effective at it. But I prefer a more symbolic interpretation of the mass. The service does seem to be somewhat exclusive (exclusionary) too. "If you arent a catholic or if it has been a long time since your last communion you should refuse the host by placing your hands together and instead be blessed by the father." (No holy communion for you- you nasty little Lutheran!!)

I went to a neighbor's son's first communion. I appreciated the way the priest interacted with the children (walked up and spoke with them). I liked the "peace greeting". Then the priest said something that really set me back. He said that the most important thing that a priest can do- the main reason a person becomes a priest- is to change the host into the literal body and blood of Christ.
I was floored. Not building hospitals, not feeding the poor, not serving as a sanctuary for those who have none, not defending the sanctity of life- nothing real. Changing bread and wine into the literal body and blood of Christ!! The pretend stuff is the most important!!
That did it for me. I enjoy the ancient ritual, but ignoring the real in favor of the imaginary was just too much!

Friend said they're really emphasizing "Family Worship Evening" at the Convention - why did they get rid of the book study then?
by truthseeker ini just had a chat with a friend i haven't seen for a while.
he knows we're inactive.
he was trying to encourage us by relating what he heard at the convention, saying "the end is near" and then proceeded to tell me that what stood out the most was how many times the society emphasized "family worship" night at the convention.. it got me thinking, why did they get rid of the book study arrangement in private homes if they're so keen on forcing people to have family worship night?

I still think that it was a move inspired by fear of liability. If you have an organizationally sponsored event in a private home then the organization has some liability for what happens there. I think some molestation must have happened at a book study. The legal department is the only department able to make the GB move so fast.

very clever book. It ties the monotony and sheer boringness of being a witness in with the epic and exciting tales in the Acts of Apostles. Gives brain dead witnesses a tie to something larger than them. Makes the neverending boredom seem like it has a purpose and is actually something better than it really is. (Really- its a classic use of a myth or moral story)

Michael Jackson cries after celebrating first christmas
by shopaholic ini know you all are tired of hearing about michael jackson but after seeing this video, i was reminded of the guilt that lingers after the leaving the jw religion.
as i understand it, his primary reason for leaving was because latoya was df'd and he didn't like having to chose between religion and family.
sounds familiar?.

I really hope he resolved in his deepest thoughts- that all of JWdom is shite- before he died. If he didn't- he lived with guilt that would explain some of his psychosis

The bible's message- the nice version (in which we don't go into the genocide, baby killing, intolerance, racism, mysogony, etc, etc, etc)
