  Guys, What's it like being one of girls?

  Nooooon Rachel thats not it. I actually feel rather honored as the guys often sit back on the sidelines and wonder, " Why do they enjoy talking to him? " Women, total strangers, when we connect in eye contact, they initiate speaking, it's almost like a secret clue. They can sense when your not viewing them as your next "Hero Sandwich" We lock eye to eye, and they almost instantly recognise that I'm viewing them as a human, and not an "Oh My God" look. The one where our jaw, usually, drops on the floor.

  Well isn't that special? (I just said that in my best Dana Carvey doing the church lady voice, which isn't really very good at all, but I genuinely mean it! We women appreciate men like you who view us as the goddesses that we are.)

  Changeling, yes I have seen Will and Grace, thanks for the clarification. That's what I thought but I wasn't sure.

  What Is It About Children?

  that makes us like/love them so?.

  is it how good they smell or how unpretentious they are?.

  my granddaughter - age 9 - gave me a big smile and hug before i walked out of the door this am.. it felt good then and i can still feel the effects.. children are precious and so wonderful!.

  They are honest and tell it like it is. They don't hold back. They are not afraid. They don't realize yet that the world can be and is often very ugly. They unabashedly tell you they love you. They just want to have fun.

  I think aspiring to be like them is what brings true happiness.

  I haven't been out of the JW's long enough to be involved in any presidential elections before this one. I'm all registered to vote and following the primaries as closely as I can. I feel very behind because I'm trying to understand how it all works on the facade and how it REALLY works, and then make my decisions accordingly.

  I am confused about Hillary Clinton because so many people seem to really hate her. I guess it's mostly because I am extremely naive in all this politic stuff. Anyway, thanks for the thread. I'm glad to see this stuff discussed here.

  Married to a brother or sister (semantics?)

  no offense to the lady who posted and i hope she finds the real truth about the jw's and her husband comes with her at the same time.

  now that that is out of the way, is it just me and not having the mentality of a jw but i find it kind of, well, just icky thinking of spouses refering to each other as brother and sister.

  i'm sure it is just my worldly thinking here.

  What Does A JW "Learn" At The Meetings?

  correct me if you think i'm wrong but i don't think the meeting teach witnesses anything they don't already know.

  "getting reminders".

  i do not understand why anyone would want to leave the comfort of their homes to pretend that you're going to a "life-saving" meeting..

  Correct me if you think I'm wrong but I don't think the meeting teach Witnesses anything they don't already know. "Getting reminders" is not learning anything new. It's all a re-hash.Reading a publication at home is no different than reading it in a group.

  I do not understand why anyone would want to leave the comfort of their homes to pretend that you're going to a "life-saving" meeting. It's so stupid.

  If you don't go to the meetings three or five (whatever, just because they make two hours worth of boring stuff in one sitting does not mean they are separate meetings - you are expected to sit through all of the coma-inducing excitement) times a week, you will not fall for the crap for very long. Eventually you will start to think for yourself and realize you have been fed a lot of BS. So they have to implore you to plug into the lifesaving meetings to recharge or whatever, so that they can keep you under their power. But, of course, you already know this, minimus.

  Making non-JW friends! Staying home and watching Thursday night TV after an exhausting week of work and NOT feeling guilty about it! Sleeping in on the weekends! Reading websites like this one and books like Ray Franz's! Reading books about other religions and philosophies, and NOT feeling guilty about it!

  Though I've never been able to find an appropriate use for the word I have always loved the way it sounds. It means either ostentatious and showy and/or of the orchid family, your choice, and/or context.
