The same as you while i was in, being on here.
When i left the first thing i did that wasn't allowed was say when i was having surgery that i would be accepting blood from now on. It felt really good to be able to say that, especially as my doctor was very concerned about that, as he knew from past experience my stand.
I was already doing it - smoking. The other thing I was doing that I shouldn't have been was playing spiritistic video games.
I didn't get drunk or vote or donate blood or celebrate my birthday.
Actually, I am a fader who must be careful about his activity.
The first thing I did as a fader (besides come to these websites) was
to order and read Ray Franz's CRISIS OF CONSCIENCE. That is a
a big NO NO because he is a DF'ed former Governing Body member.
It was so enlightening.
Besides that, I have since read other books and I have met with and
actually ate with former JW's (GASP). I also celebrated Father's Day
with (all never JW) Dad and his kids by another wife. My (believing JW)
wife didn't make it to the celebration, and she pretended I was just
going to see family, not actually participate in some pagan ritual of
actually honoring the man who raised me (such a horrible thing to do).
I still don't smoke or get drunk (actually, I am an alcoholic, so I refrain)
and I don't vote. I don't really celebrate holidays, but I share gifts with
family on a regular basis.
Vote in the next election.
Celebrated Christmas in 2004 less than a month after I DA'd outta da cult.
My 3 kids and husband and I celebrated Halloween!!! Then Thanksgiving and Christmas. My kids have gone to bday parties and I have tried smoking. Oh, oh, I also tried pot for the first time. Didn't like it too much.
And I started reading a different Bible than the NWT. American Standard Version. I really like that.
I so sincerely hope you are celebrating freedom by the New Year, together with your husband.

I'm not disfellowshipped. I simply faded. The first thing I did is stop going to meetings. Stop listening to the elders. Made my own agenda for each day of the week. I started thinking for myself, but still keeping in mind what I think God wants from me, not what the Watchtower thinks God wants from me.
