There is a clear connection between the archdiocese and the clergy in the RC church. Within the organisation of JWs, the relationship between the WTBTS, elders and individual JWs is kept fuzzy. The WTBTS has a record of avoiding any legal precedent to be set on the relationship between JW elders and itself. This will complicate any attempt to sue the WTBTS over the action or inaction of individual JWs or elders.
Expert at having things both ways - do not report allegations because it disrupts clergy confidentiality, but the WTBTS won't take responsibility for the untrained unpaid volunteers who cease to be clergy when legal action occurs.
i'm in a bit of a state at the moment, my wife has just left me about 30 mins ago and took the kids...i don't know where.... ok, some of you long-timers may remember the problems i had with my son ben, who decided that the jw religion wasn't for him about a year ago.
i supported him as best i could through that and he's developed into a fine young man with a more healthy spiritual attitude, investigationg a number of christian churches in the area and finally settled on church of england, which he really likes now.. although no longer a christian myself i have no objection to them pursuing whatever religious path they choose (obviously within reason).
that has been the case with all of my children: ben, 15, charlotte, 14 and chloe, 12. i have never attempted to stop my wife taking them to the meetings although i have voiced to them privately my concerns about the religion.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share this with us. Its brilliantly written.
It is a peek into another universe for me. As a girl growing up in England, I had about as much chance of flying to the moon as getting the insights into the guts of the Watchtower organisation that you had. Fascinating. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the story.
the service meeting on thursday was really saddening, particularly the last part, about preaching with boldness.
it was about overcoming nervousness, shyness, etc in the ministry.. all these people gave their experiences about difficulties they had in the ministry.
a regular pioneer (and elder's wife) admitted that she used to just pretend to ring the door bells; service is still really difficult for her, but she does it just because she feels obligated to.
I believe that their love for God drives them to do this door-to-door preaching
I disagree. Love for God and neightbour may be the motivation for a tiny minority, but the pressure to report the right numbers at the end of the month is the motivation for most.
If the Society "simplified" ministry arrangements by not collecting field service reports or monitoring activity in any way - how many publishers would actually be out there knocking on doors?
Well, good news that your friend is really willing to consider the evidence. Anyone I know?
If she is more concerned on things that affect peoples lives, how about the changing teachings on organ transplants and what parts of blood are blood? Another one is the rape / fornication / must scream / mustn't scream saga. You only need to show her the WTBTS own literature for that - no "apostate" literature required.
