Freedom
by sweet pea inwhat a rollercoaster the last couple of days has been.
having been prompted gently and lovingly by husband 'besty' i have examined my faith, sorry the organisation, and finally realised that he has been right all along in his reservations.
i feel all sorts of emotions, mainly happiness at finally feeling free - no more meetings (i never could see why we had to attend 3 a week and always felt stressed about taking the babies along when they should be in bed!

When is it 'going too far'?
by nekone041 ini'm new to the forum (in fact, i just joined about 10 minutes before starting this post), and am a new jw (i began learning and attending meetings since about november of '06).
i have a question involving my girlfriend and i, and i'm hoping to find a moral answer.
my girlfriend and i fell in love two summers ago, and we're still pretty young (we're turning 17 this year).

You became a jehovahs witness and you came to this site for advice. Just because this is a jw discussion site you are not going to find anyone saying anything positive about witnesses on here.
I am a jw backer and it is one against a million. It is not wrong to wait, but dont be hard on yourself you are new, but if you want the advice from most of the people on here then just tap as much a++ as you want. It dont matter cause anything a jw does is wrong. Heck might as well through another girl in the mix. Then come back on here tell everyone about and they will back you with much greatness.

Holidays
by BR25 ini am a former jw, but i still believe what they do about the holidays?
i have already talked about origins and all that stuff so i wanted to ask something without bringing up scriptual or historical backgrounds for a change.. my question is (whatever your beliefs may be) what % of people who celebrate christmas, if you took the presents out of christmas would still acknowledge christmas as much as they do now?
note: as much.

If you celebrate it to celebrate I guess it dont matter as much, but for those who set it aside as some major religious day than yes it should be taken into consideration, and all these ones should know the beginning as holy of a day its made to be. The gifts, the commercialism, oh well, but those ones make it a religious day how can you. So is Halloween ok too.
Now this is what gets me. Some of my buddies just visited me and they are like major christian people. There were 4 of them, I knew 3 of them, but the forth I had never met. He was like Mr. Christian. We were playing cards and we got on the topic of religion. We got on the topic of religion because ( you guys will like this part) sometimes they call me Knock Knock. So he asked me why and the conversation began. We got on the topic of christmas and I explained why we dont celebrate it, and he basically defended himself pretty much the way everyone does on here origin doesnt matter and so forth. Everyone agreed with him of course. So I asked everyone at the table if they celebrated halloween and I purposely asked him last because he was like speaker of the house for them. The other 3 said yes. I think he might have thought I was asking him as a trick question, because I immediately went from talking about one holiday to the next and because I asked him last ,well he says with hesitation no i dont. So I am already confused because they all have the same beliefs, but did not agree. I turned the tables on him very nicely. Well, I said you told me that the origin of christmas and how it began has no affect on how it is viewed today, so I asked why then does that not apply to Halloween? The room got quiet for a second and the subject was changed. I was so glad he said no. Manipulation is great.

Altering reality where do you stand......
by fifi40 into fill you in and explain my post....... i was raised as a jw but left (not baptised) at 16. i started studying again at 24ish and was quickly baptised and got disfellowshipped aged about 32ish.
whilst i was active as a jw i socialised plenty, but it did not involve copious amounts of drink or drugs.
during my times out i have very very occasionally smoked a little dope and have been drunk more often but by no means frequently.

I'll try to be more clear. When it comes to this topic I was just saying I did alot of bad things when I stopped going, but it being a way of a self cure is dumb to me. The way people word things they talk about things they missed out on like drugs and alcohol. To me why are these things so bad to miss out on.
On other topics such as paradise people poke fun of how it would be.( whether you believe in it or not) the things people listed shoudnt be considered bad. No adultery, no dieing, cussing, everyone drinking from the same water and then people say how boring. Why? cause they are so used to life we live now. people dont have to agree, but geese if this was the case it should be a blessing. It is just some people dog on the jws and then they give their reasons why and I feel sometimes that I am talking to people of 2nd grade intelligence.

Memorial 'Holiday"?
by onlycurious inif the dub's don't believe in celebrating holidays, what makes the memorial different?.

BR25
Well even though not too many people agree with me, at least now I know by the last few posts there is actually people on here I can discuss things with, with the level of intelligence I was looking for, so thanks for your comments.
Only being on here a few days the biggest thing so far that I strongly disagree with is all the people complaining about all the time they spent with the originazation and all the things they couldnt do. The reason I have a beef with this is because alot of the things mentioned no matter what christian orginization you come from you shouldnt be doing these things anyways, but I guess that is what seperates man decisions and the bible. I spent about 18 years in the congregation. I have been to other churches with friends just to be dumb, and alot things didnt make sense to me, but when people start listening to the preacher its like there in the zone. From what I experienced I can say the 3 other churches I went to I never heard a whole lot of scriptures just opinions. I can see why people may think the jws are boring, because when I visited other churches it was more like visiting a spa then a place of worship.

There is nothing wrong about what jws think you should and should not do. So they dont like all these things big wuppp. Since I left I drink to get crazy, and I smoked pot alot, tried a couple of lines, but nothing more mostly pot, but in no means was a way of self medication. You are all so opiniated on here I dont even no why you would say that. The way I understand it from most peoples comments this is a better way of life. Only been posting on here a few days but am really confused on alot of peoples views. I understand why people may not agree with jws which is fine, but some peoples reasoning I just dont get it. So many bring up many interesting points about jws and their beliefs and some it seems even put a little heart behind it, and then they give their reasons why they do things and then I just become completely baffled. Makes no sense what so ever. Maybe it is just me, but it seems like with alot of topics on here the jws way of thinking and why they do things has alot more reasoning behind it then why other people do the exact opposite.

Why a paradise earth is so appealing to JWs?
by Lady Lee inwhy a paradise earth is so appealing to jws?.
well no one can say they look around at the problems today and can say they like everything they see.
so a nice clean paradise world would be pretty great.
-
BR25
jws are selfish because they disregard the world, take a look at the world. Most americans cant go a week without protesting. You all make these opinions about what jws think of the paradise. Some of you even make it out to be a good thing in how you describe it, and then you poke fun and say how boring it is. This is problem. No matter what peoples beliefs are good things shouldnt be boring or stupid. Why? no porn, everyone getting along, no cheating, no dieing. No matter if you believe it or not what is wrong with these things.
That is the problem anymore people just want to do what they want with disregards to anything.
Maybe I should take another way of life. I can start smoking dope, doing crack, fighting, getting drunk, and then I go to bed that night pray to be saved and Im on my way to heaven. How Dreamyyyyy.

There is nothing bad about the memorial. It is not limited and should be be celbrated by all christian faiths in other ways than easter celebrations. To the other comment about the memorial is good because it is the only time jesus is not ignored. So how should we acknowledge him more? pass out candy? paint eggs, go 3000 dollars in debt over christmas and then argue about the stress of it with your wife for the next 3 months, wear a cross, dress up as a little devil and go out trick or treating. Maybe I should try these things and he wont be as ignored.
