It's kind of hard to keep your prophecy circus going when your King of the North went out of business 20 years ago.

So has the wt given up on prophecy altogether or what?
by agonus infor decades they've produced massive tomes on their own peculiar brand of wt-centric prophecy, but it seems like the production of prophecy-related material as of late has slowed to a trickle, their last prophecy-related book that i can recall was the minor-prophets book released a few years back.
however that book if i recall was very vague in its exposition, focusing on daily life application rather than eschatology.
and yet the armageddon-end-times-obedience-"generation" drumbeat grows faster and louder with less and less exposition as to how or when exactly any of this is supposed to play out.

Do you dress your pets?
by Snoozy inas a child i had many cats and delighted in putting my doll clothes on them and rocking them in the rocking chair..i would even make a tent on my mom's bed and put them in it like they were in a cave..i had a great imigination... they would tolerate it for a while and then decide the fun was over..picky cats.... so if you have animals do you dress them up now?
or did you or your kids dress them up?
they looked so cute!.

The best way to figure out how church doctrines came into existence is to seriously investigate the earliest Christians and find out what they were all about. If Jesus really did walk this earth, the only way his spectacular escapades could have gone unnoticed by all the historians of the first century is if his teachings were private and low key. That would mean to me that it no longer matters if the stories are literal, and that it is quite sensible when researchers claim that the earliest Christians were gnostics.
That's why this is very interesting:
On the Gnostic Trinity, by James M. West

Ok , this Trinity Doctrine is messing me up
by KristiKay insome of you may know, i've been meeting with a jw lady, for a "bible" study (i hate calling it that).
i've been trying to end it pretty much since.
i've gotten more insight on their religion...i've blantently said that i don't like the "governing body", i don't agree with the blood doctrine, can't.

tec, how exactly can the Bible be used to "prove" anything? This debate has been going on for 2,000 years. The Bible can go either way. Why? Because it is the ideas of men who were at best, guessing about the nature of "God". It just AMAZES me that this BOOK can be viewed as such an AUTHORITY (Golden Calf, actually), that it can actually PROVE something to be an unassailable FACT!!
Kristi, run from these people as fast as you can.... it is a very dangerous mind control cult. But if you've spent more than 5 minutes on this forum, you already know that.
If the Trinity confuses you, think of it this way. If you were a lightbulb, you would have a plug. That plug would have three prongs. When they are ALL plugged in, you light up. That's basically how the Trinity works. It's just metaphysical science that we don't need to understand. The problem here is, you have been indoctrinated, as we ALL were, with erroneous information. There is no God up in the sky who is going to be "offended" by the Trinity Doctrine. Do you think for one second your father here on earth would even be angry with you, let alone destroy you for not understanding something that the Catholic Church, who basically made it up, admits is "incomprehensible to human intelligence"?
The True God is Love, it is inside of you and its both Mommy and Daddy. The big bad Pharisee God Jehovah of the Watchtower has been officially yanked off the throne.

Is there any real difference...
by undercover in...between a group of people who wear sandwich board signs, hold up signs, hand out handbills or put up billboards with the messages of: .
"religion is a snare and a racket"; " millions now living will never die"; "live forever in paradise".
and people who hold up signs, hand out handbills or put up billboards that say: .

I think the main motivation behind the protesters is love. "Get out of this cult (or don't get involved) before your life is ruined like mine was"....
That's the main thing that keeps me coming to places like this one, but definitely not the only one....

What "scripture is inspired of God?"
by Mad Sweeney inthis has been discussed before in other threads and probably in threads of its own, but it is probably time to re-hash the topic.. when paul told timothy that "all scripture is inspired of god..." what "scripture" was he talking about?
did he have the ego to include his own personal letters to the congregations?
did he also mean to include the books and letters not written at the time that the catholic church would choose for its canon a couple hundred years later?

The King James Interlinear says "Every" scripture, but somehow in the text it becomes "All". In the newer "revised" translations, it has indeed become "every". The Greek word "pas" can mean either, but to say that every scripture that appears in the Bible is "inspired" just because it was selected to the canon means one of two things: It is not ALL "inspired", whatever that means, or, if it is God-breathed, he is totally incapable of writing a coherent book.
We also know there were a gazillion gospels in existence in the first century that never made it into the Bible. Are they "scripture" too?
The other thing is, there was no official canon of the New Testament when Paul allegedly wrote this letter to Timothy. So, he could have only been referring to the OT, and we know for a fact that Paul deeply despised the Law and said that it came from "angels", but would be better translated as "messengers".

Have you known dying persons to use the expression "going home"?
by JimmyPage ina close relative of mine has reached the last days of their life and has been talking about "going home".
this seems unusual when you consider that they have been a jw for many years and this would not seem to jive with their belief of being resurrected to live on the earth forever.
i'll grant you that they have acted quite confused much of the time as they draw closer to their end.

Yep. Makes all the sense in the world. It's their intuition telling them this. They KNOW, in spite of the programming, that the Prodigal Son was received by his Father in a way that hardly resembles Jehovah's "Judgment Day".

I need a show of hands: who believes the Bible and to what extent?
by Terry ini'll start off.. i don't believe anything is divine about bible writings.
i believe there may be some marginal history although not much.
i think alot of folk tales and regional myths are contained in the old testament.

designs, these stories of Jesus are all completely symbolic. The deep meaning of these stories is lost in the literalism. A "Pharisee" in kabbalistic allegorical terms is ANYONE without a fully awakened consciousness, because his egos restrict gnosis. This is the "mark of the beast", a blotch on the forehead that blocks the third eye. That would mean that we are all Pharisees to a greater or lesser extent, and its not our fault. We are in the process of evolving and awakening. There is no eternal destruction for any human being, only their egos. We can use the teachings of Jesus and other Masters to awaken consciousness, or we can look to them as saviors and guarantee that we'll have to come back and do this all over again until we "get it".
The good news: Our "blindness" really began to be alleviated when we left the Watchtower. It can only get better from here.
I really do understand your animosity at the Jesus that has been presented by Christianity and its horrific track record, but it is definitely not the Christ that I have come to know. It has nothing to do with a man, but a message.
If I may, I would like to suggest a couple of books, both pretty light reading.... "The Gospel of Thomas, Annotated and Explained", by Stevan L. Davies and "The Third Jesus" by Deepak Chopra.
