Perry said,
That's the whole point... he was shown mercy precisely because he was a son. No children of Adam starts out as a son of God.
There's a couple of things glaringly wrong with this statement. But I do understand how you could say this, coinsidering the Bible's complete contradiction of itself and the impossibility of establishing a coherent doctrine from its pages.
First of all, Jesus said that in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, you have to be like these little children. But according to certain parts of the Bible, they are not children of God yet. No, instead, let's wait until they grow up full of egos programmed into them by ignorant adults, and they become pompous, presumptous judgmental idiots, and when they fight their way past that and finally live up to whatever God's standard is for being accepted into the [Pharisee] family, then they are children of God. Is that correct?
Second, the Prodigal Son lived a totally debauched life, squandered everything, and although he was "repentant", it is obvious, because this is a parable, that this is the scene in "heaven" after the son has died and has returned to his maker. Tell me what idiot would not be repentant for a totally wicked and selfish life after he has died and is standing before his heavenly father??
