I have a friend who's son was diagnosed recently with this disease. What I've posted so far is what she has told me the doctors have told her. Until he was 18 there were virtually no symptoms. Within a year he has been institutionalized and considered very dangerous.
Just to add .. he is dangerous because he refuses to take his meds. He prefers his altered state.

JG ... schizophrenia is not triggered. It occurs mostly in males and starts in adolescence. It has no cure but can be controled in most.
The cause is not known and can not be determined before onset.

However, the medical field as far as psychosis was in it's infancy in the early '70s.
The question raised is if possibly the stress of being a Witness could bring on psychosis.
It is now known that psychosis is a functional or organic illness. It is brain damage or disease.
It would be like asking if being a JW could be responsible for ones getting cancer.
Surely you can understand this.

39 of this group suffered from schizophrenia ... 10 neurotic ... 1 alcoholic.
The first two illnesses are inborn charataristics ... would occur no matter what one did with their life.
Alcoholism is a known illness.
I find it interesting that these Witnesses went in for treatment.
Would you rather they lived on the streets without meds or any treatment?
Could be that these people did well to become JWs and got the help they needed. Maybe they were drawn to the Witnesses because they were shown care and compassion and understanding.
Doesn't look like you share much compassion for those who have a disorder.
People don't 'become' schizophrenic because of their environment .. they are predisposed.

i wonder if jw's realize that the doors or particularly christians get really annoyed when they learn the jw bible has all the little answers in the back?
my friend who is a christian and knows her bible inside and out asked me why the jw was looking for something that would have been in say, matt, luke or mark and the jw was looking in what appeared from her angle would have been revelations.
when they find out there are printed answers to questions instead of knowing the answers and knowing where to look it makes the doors think jw's are dishonest or severely lacking in 'biblical knowledge'.
Things have changed a bit. My personal Bible was so marked up that a few householders suggested that it showed lack of respect for God's Word to mark up my Bible. To respect anyone who may feel that way, I now use a new unmarked one.
