  I'd still like to know how you come up with the number 23K

  A few of you have pointed fingers at Barbara Anderson and Bill Bowen of "Silent Lambs".

  In the post refered to by Aude, Barbara points the finger at Bill Bowen for the numbers.

  I've gone to the "Silent Lambs" site and have found nothing in reference to this number.

  I've tried checking out your references .. 23K .. and can find nothing substantive.

  The 'search' option here doesn't seem to operate .. at least not for me.

  Now there is lots of talk here about these numbers being in the WTBTS database.

  Can anyone back up this statement? Or is it a wild guess?

  No one seems to know how you access the WTBTS's database (i.e. 23K).

  dawg ... your 'email from a JW ' is a little off, to say the least.

  Can't remember too many JW's mentioning "Falling short of the glory of God".

  Can't remember too many talk about 'handing out' anything. They place literature.

  Either (a) you made it all up or (b) found someone who is very new to the truth.

  How do any of you know what the WTBTS has on their database?

  Is it public knowledge?

  Can anyone access this info?

  Are you guessing at the number 23K?

  I don't want to argue ... just want to know where and how you come across these numbers.

  iam now as what was announced at a recent meeting that iam "no longer a jehovah's witness" all of my family and friends are witnesses so this will ailenate me from all of my friends and family.

  but i feel like i don't want to go back.

  i really hate the feeling of isolation and shamefulness while iam sitting in the meeting, what's the point of it all.

  It makes no sense that someone would take 5 years to be reinstated ... when they had never been df'd.

  There will always be ones who don't treat you well in every congregation. Human nature.

  child abuse cover up

  i wonder if anyon on hre can give me some advice , my daughter was abused by an ex jw , it came out in court that he had abused other childrn when he was serving as a ministerial servant years earlier , the elders knw about those victims and never reported him to the police , the judge called it a coverup , there were no press in the room so it never made it in the papers which i was very angry about .

  had they reported him years ago he would never have been able to abuse my daughter , and i want an apoligy , i have tried to discuss it with the elders but they all mak out they knew nothing , which makes m wonder who it was that reported the abuse to london hq bethel as that was said in court .

  do you think if i wrot to them we would get an apology, his wife who used to be a close friend is supporting him, and his jw family , i feel devastated by this, the cps did not persue the 8 charges for my daughter due to lack of evidence , even though he took my daughter and another victim to the same place, which his wife must just think is a huge coincidence, they critise the catholics for keeping hush hush about abuse but do the same themselves , i wish i could talk to another mum of a child who was abused by a jw , i cant talk to the other mums involved in our case as i think they have been told not to talk to me , i am not a jw but am married to a disfellowshipped man .

  Jehovah's Witnesses are not a cult and here's why I think so

  when most people think of "cult" they think of the people's temple, the branch davidians, or heaven's gate.

  many also want to put jehovah's witnesses, mormons, and scientologists into this group.

  i don't agree with that because there is one main difference between true cults and high-control groups like jws:.

  jwfacts used the term non-mainstream ...

  Now would that be non-mainstream in North America .. Africa .. Europe .. USSR .. China .. India ???

  If you are a Catholic in China .. you are not mainstream.

  If you are a Muslim in USSR .. you are not mainstream ... etc, etc.

  How Have You Gone About Making Friends Since Leaving the Witnesses ?

  i've noticed lately that some on our board, or perhaps for many of us, that's why i'm writing this , have had a challenge making new friends after leaving the jehovah's witnesses religion.

  it has been a mixed bag for me.

  i have met some through my wife, who is not a witness.
