I never got DF'd because luckily I escaped getting baptised...I just kept "putting it off" until I went "poof! gone!". :)
That did not stop my family for treating me like I was DF'd because I "would have been anyway". So silly! But my family eventually got over it and are somewhat accepting that I have different plans in life but I know that my mom especially truly believes I am going to die at armageddon. That upsets me. They still try to convert me back. I try to be open minded and not just cut them off because I value their relationship and I am sure that I am being a bit too sensitive and more giving than I should be. Who knows.

Why do people choose to d'assoc by letter instead of just fading?
by journey-on ini simply gradually quit going.
of course, this was many years ago and maybe the "rules" have changed, but rather than create drama among my family, i just let them think i was becoming materialistic and spiritually weak.
at least it kept them talking and associating with me rather than cutting me off.

I "faded" but that did not stop the questions and visits and crying and drama... I still never sent a letter, I was never baptized. I was still cut off (by my parents and family) for several years. I hate to think what would have happened if I was DF'd!!! My sister wanted to fade...she was DF'd by the elders in her absence anyway! She never went to a JC meeting. They just DF'd her.

Thanks juni :) I will get a doggie back pack next time I go shopping for her! I thought about getting one but never really made the effort. I did buy her a cute sweater but that will be useless in the summer. A back pack would be wonderful because we generally walk around everywhere especially on hikes...having her carry her own food and water, what a concept!

I got her when she was a puppy, 10 weeks old and she will be 4 in September. Where does the time go? I love her so much. She is a full-blooded Border Collie. They are a whole different breed of dog. I get stopped on the street all the time by people wanting to know more about Border collies. And I have had people pull over in their cars (several times!) who have a border collie and they want to see mine and talk about them! It is so funny!
My doggie is a little bit smaller, 35 lbs maybe...she was the runt of the litter. SOOOOOO affectionate though. She thrives on attention. And she is a great frisbee player too. I wish I could throw as well as she catches. Faster than any dog around too and can turn on a dime. She is so friendly and great with kids. Bit hyper but managable. She loves to play with kids and even becomes more gentle around them. She is also protective of me and ONLY from creepy people...she has never growled at anyone I did not feel deserved it. She has also never had a destructive moment in her life. I really do believe she is the perfect dog. But I am biased...perhaps... -

I just wanted to take this time to brag about my computer...
4gb RAM. Two duel-core 3ghz processor (was a little behind...if i waited a week I coulda got the quad-cores!)
256gig hard drive. Wanted 1 terabyte but thought that might be excessive :P
Two DVD-R / CR-R...
Two 23" wide cinema screens (apple).
It only cost about....$10,000
hehe
I do/manage/run magazine production in case you are wondering.
My boss bought me the computer. It went like this:
During my interview my future-boss asks..."what is your dream computer".
Me: "Dream?"
K-Boss: "yes, dream, for magazine production"
Me: "umm.... well I am a PC person but I should probably get a mac"
K-Boss: "ok well send me a list of what you want"
So I send him a HUGE list and think "oh what the hell, I will send it"
I go to work on my FIRST DAY and the first thing my new boss says:
"so, you have expensive taste..."
Me: "you DID say 'dream' computer"
K-Boss: "Yes, you are right, look over this invoice, make sure I didnt leave anything off"
Me: "well I did want 1 terabyte hard drive...it says here 250 gigs..."
K-Boss: "Well we are getting a server too"
Me: "Sweet".

Former JW "Goes Off" On Teen-Aged Daughter . . .
by Madame Quixote inand gets results.
well, it's not as smarmy as the alec baldwin story because the teen is a 19-year-old who lives her own life at my expense .
and disrespected me; so, i decided, enough is enough.

jgnat: I think "no class" hits the nail on the head. If they were to say something similar to people who have had no contact or idea of what they are about, they would be laughed at! No class at all... It is certainly nice to be amused by it and not hurt...There was a time where this did hurt though and part of me somewhere can still be hurt by this behavior. They are an insane bunch.

Hey all. I have not posted here for 2 years maybe? I was formerly jwbot.
A lot has happened. I have been very busy with career-business. I graduated college. I worked in the magazine business for a while and now I am a creative director for an architecture and interior design magazine. One of the youngest in that...actually. So I am doing quite well. :)
Anyway, thats if you remember who I was, a couple of you might.
So I moved to Portland, Maine and was having a conversation with my brother on the phone. He is still a JW, basically, he stayed one because he married one. I was always a JW but my belief is that he just goes through the motions, nothing more, and especially so because he is married.
I consider myself to be somewhat cultured and Portland Maine is a normal district-assembly location. The civic center is down the street, walking-distance to my office (I am at work right now getting some last minute details done!). So my brother mentions the District assembly in a month...and I offer to let him stay at my place (declined) and I also tell him we will all go out to eat since he is in my area! He seemed happy about that...he wanted to eat at PIZZA HUT and I said NO! There are soooo many NICE and unique places to eat in Portland maine, several on every block. Blasphemy to eat at Pizza Hut! (I dont even know where there IS one! haha) So we will eat at Fore St. which is voted the 11th best place to eat in the US. You see what I am dealing with here? My family has no culture and I have no problem forcing it on them! :P
But thats not the point of my story. My brother asks if I want to come to the assembly. I said sure...maybe saturday afternoon, not the whole day (wow what a way to ruin a whole day, eh??) I will go out drinking afterwards, lord knows I will need it! Ok I say. It wont be so bad...I can maybe see a few people I knew and rub it in their face how well I am doing and how fabulous I look, bla bla bla. So I said, sure I will come and hang out with them and that I was NOT going to be treated like an outcast. So I said, "sure I am sitting with them though..." and he said "Yeah that should be fine...I will ask [my wife] but I am sure it will ok"
Um...I just thought how can they try to re-convert me and still try and get away with treating me like an outcast? It is a hilarious (but sad) concept!! "Yeah we want you to come but it is still a punishment at the same time" Oh please. No Thanks.
Thought that was funny :)
