New Urban Legend: Catholic Church to be 'disbanded'
by erbie inthe thread about urban legends got me thinking and i remembered this one which i was told quite recently which definitely deserves its own place.. a few weeks back i was told by an elder that the 'brothers' are saying that the catholic church is to be disbanded with immediate effect by the un because of child abuse coverups which apparently disqualifies it as a 'charitable organization'.. (no siggering!).
he also claimed that it was headline news.. this is of course mad wishful thinking on their part and i was staggered to think that anyone could believe such nonsense but would be very interested to hear if anyone else has heard this.. forgive me if this has already done the rounds but it was news to me..

I guess one of the first questions to ask here is what percentage of the population is ever in a situation where they actually need a blood transfusion in the first place? If the issue never comes up... then the WTBTS' blood policy didn't actually affect you.
In any event... 250k doesn't sound right.

"I think the Canada <-> New Zealand comparison is probably fair: both have larger, brasher neighbors that they pretend to like but laugh at when they are out of the room."
New Zealand laughs at us?
Speaking of New Zealand... how does a Kiwi find his sheep in the dark?
Wonderful.

Terry's book: I WEPT BY THE RIVERS OF BABYLON
by tec ini just finished reading this book, by our terry, and i thorougly enjoyed it.
terry has an amazing gift for words and expression - as most of you already know - and he lured me in from the very start.
reading this book is an actual experience... and i don't want to say much more than that, because i don't want to color your experience as you read for yourself.. .

Terry, I recently went to a book signing of an author who isn't exactly well known. He was on a national tour, visiting the regional cities around the country.
Who goes to a signing of an unknown author? A lot of people it turns out. Just because you're not well known, doesn't mean no one would be interested. Maybe if you spoke a little on your experiences, what prompted you to write this book... including the hiccups. Budding writers show up to these events too... as well as those who like to deliberately avoid the mainstream.
Just a few thoughts.

Recent Global Cooling Controversy
by metatron inhttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2415191/global-cooling-arctic-ice-caps-grows-60-global-warming-predictions.html.
climate change is a legitimate concern - especially as it affects poor nations.
however, the subject has been twisted by greedy global elites resulting in disappointments (if you wish to call them that!

There simply are not many La Nina cycles to compare to. The high amounts of rain have an evaporative cooling effect. This last one was still warmer than the previous. No one said that the temperatures would steadily climb every year progressively.
While it felt cooler... ocean temperatures were up.
