How much do you pay for your internet service?
by JH ina few years ago, i had dial up internet with netrover, and cost about 18$ a month, unlimited use.
but it was slow.. then i had videotron here in quebec, low speed internet (cable) for about 29$ a month which was about 3 to 4 times faster than dial up.
now i upgraded it to high speed for about 45$ a month plus tax of course.

About $40 a month also. Pay $30 a month for the landline as well in order to get the ADSL internet connection. When the NBN is rolled out to my area (supposed to be in a couple of months) I'll be able to ditch the landline and get the internet for around the same dollars as I do currently. With a 25Mb connection.

Congratulations!
I've started my enrolment process for a diploma in Graphic Design... can't wait. Have decided that since my current plan of getting yet another crappy retail job which I hate isn't working it's time to change tactics and use the free time that I have to my long term advantage and get off this whole getting-a-crappy-job-that-gets-me-by-temporarily routine and start directly aiming for what I want to be doing more aggressively.

Ahhh... Smoke On the Water. First guitar riff I ever learned. Ultra easy version... just the G & D strings over 3 frets.

Quote from Guitar Jim from around 1948 I believe... "When I was playing in clubs I used to have distortion, feedback and the audiences used to love it. I told Leonard Chess we should get that sound on record, but he just told me "ain't nobody gonna buy that noise, man"".
Can be now filed under 'Famous Wrong Calls in History'. Every generation brings their own ideas of what's art and what's entertainment... they are constantly evolving.

I don't really agree with the title too much. True, there was a lot of great music around in the 80's which I still love, especially with the Aussie bands (INXS, Icehouse, Hoodoo Gurus, Do Re Mi, Eurogliders, Divinyls etc) but that's my opinion. There is still a lot of great music around today... Green Day are still great (though I do agree that A Simple Plan are not the same band today as they were during the days of their 'Still Not Getting Any' album, they've evolved into something that just doesn't appeal to me anymore).
There's still P!nk... she's just awesome. The Living End, Eskimo Joe, Foo Fighters etc. There was plenty of mind numbing, brainless music around in pretty much any era also...

Plants Talk to Eachother
by Satanus inso, i put this under 'social' ;) they aren't exactly sure how.. .
' having a neighborly chat improves seed germination, finds research in biomed central's open access journal bmc ecology.
even when other known means of communication, such as contact, chemical and light-mediated signals, are blocked chilli seeds grow better when grown with basil plants.

Maybe the rocks will amplify the sound... the plants P.A. system as they spread the good news.

Ever Have A Close Call?
by rocketman inyesterday i had a close call on the road - an out-of-control pickup truck veered into my lane, spinning as it approached and crashed into a pole about 50 feet in front of my car.
this is the second close encounter i've had, (both involving someone driving a pickup truck).
in this case, a couple of seconds made a huge difference, since i may have been directly hit had i just been a bit further along in my drive.. i would imagine that once a few days pass, i'll give less and less thought to the incident and i doubt it will precipitate major changes in my life or outlook (which i generally think is pretty healthy).

A tree branch fell on the caravan I was sleeping in. Can't remember specifically what tree but I do remember the 6 metre (around 20 feet) crane that was needed in order to lift the thing off. I remember dozing off then hearing this loud... crash dosen't begin to describe it. The branch came clean off the tree (termites were the culprit). Luckily, it landed at the front of the van, near the A frame at the strongest corner of the caravan. Had it been just a few feet forward there is no doubt it would have crushed the van... along with both me and the other person in there at the time.
It bought out pretty much everyone else in the park out of their vans and tents at the time. Many said the ground shook.
