Better or worse would be the limiting descriptive words here. Better in the sense that they are told they are better so they tend to think they are. Worse because they are limited in their thinking. Brainwashing will do that to a person. Been there and done that, so I won't judge. It is just sad I think. On so many levels.

BETTER/WORSE than a worldly person?"
by chuckyy inafter your own personal experiences within the jws, do you conclude that the normal rank and file jw is worse than a person in the "world", better, or no different.
what do you base your conclusions on???.

Good vs Evil.....does the existence of God prove the existence of Satan?
by wings indoes not believing in god bring evil down to a simple explanation of the conflict that is within every human being.
seems to me the "force" is at work in the world, and the "force" is both good and evil.
sometimes it is easier for me to believe in the existence of satan than the existence of god.

When good men fail to act, the resulting vacuum creates the climate in which evil dwells.
Terry, I understand this. What about the idea that good and evil and co-exist within every one of us, and there are no "good men". I am speaking individually of course. Like Gopher said. When there is a group acting on good or evil it can seem like more of a force that the numbers of individuals involved. But if you take it down to an individual's course, "goodness" could just be defined as the net effect of choices made in a lifetime. Good and evil.
My thought on this would be....does it take the duality of these qualities to bring about either. So we need a little evil in us to produce good. Just a thought.

If there is a Satan this person would be considered evil only because he does not accept god's decision
I agree. Megs said the same thing in the first post. So, in Judeo/Christian beliefs....good is only based on what God wants at the time he wants it. Obedience would be the explanation. I thought George Carlin's "thoughts on God" that Homer brought was a good explanation of the inconsistencies in this theory from a human view point. It is a mind bender at best.

Interesting and thoughtful comments. Thanks.
So, to move the conflict from external forces (that may not exist), to an internal understanding one's individual interest in donating to evil or good....is somehow empowering but also deludes the obligation of black and white thinking.
For me, viewing good and evil as shades of color has created a new challenge of choice. Part of the "thinking for yourself" that a loss of faith in God and Satan has brought.
Another question would be...."is evil always bad?"....or...."is good always good?" To not think in absolutes puts an entirely different spin on reality, for me anyway.

Sometimes it is easier for me to believe in the existence of Satan than the existence of God. Weird, I know. Just part of my process through this confusion.

just a typical marital counseling session?????
by oompa inso how did it go some have asked?
at some point the lady therapist asked me what was probably my number one concern....it just came out...."i don't know if i can stay married to a jw"...wife burst into tears...and never let up...not even on the way back to drop me off at work...i also said in session i would prefer an open minded wife, and i don't think wife would pick me now either...not an unbeliever, not an overdrinker, and that marriage to me meant being able to share pretty much everything with one another, my feelings, my friends, my concerns, and that i did not like living a double life...and explained what that was too......she of course said she would stay in the marriage, and mentioned the adultery only rule...so i said it sounds like she feels she is stuck with me...she said it sounds like our marriage is already over....the lady says she does know for a fact that jw's do indeed get divorced without sex sins...cause she has counseled more that one couple like us...one in, one out....that ended with divorce.
i did say nice things about her...said the things i love.....and vice verse...and we both said we wanted the marriage to work....so at least a good basis for continuing the sessions.....the lady wants us to find common ground and just ignore the religious difference for now...i said great but how can we do that when the religion is all encompassing to my wife...it is everything....i will be glad to go to the ground if she can find it....but she never got a chance to find it yet...we ran out of time.

Otherwise, let her be the unreasonable person and throw her own WT teachings out there to show how she is supposed to respect you and let you take the lead in the family.
From a woman's perspective, I hate this. For one, it is manipulation of something oompa doesn't believe in anymore. For another, pulling the "head of the house" thing....well maybe I wish I could have done that, but I couldn't, therefore I don't like it. Mrs. Oompa has her own path to take. This is hard on both sides, and she should be able to make her own decisions and process this in her way.
Even though her stand on not wanting to associate with anyone non-JW may seem unreasonable, it is probably her way of coping with oompa's new direction. She is protecting herself. Also, she may be making a statement to herself and to her husband about what she really wants in her life.
