Why This Site Needs Advertising

when i joined this board around the the turn of the last century, it was rather small and comfy.

there were the usual cliques as there are everywere in life, and newbies like me were outsiders.

we were scrutinized and evaluated and judged for worthiness.

Mr. Farkel, thank you for the informative post. I figured the advertising was there to help with the costs, but didn't understand about the "bandaid" thing. Still don't.

I appreciate Simon for all his efforts with this site. I come here when I need to get grounded, to remember the "whys" and "why nots" in my life.

I would have loved to have known this place back when it was cozy. When a newbie could even be recognized. Alas....no more. Makes no difference to me, I am getting to know those here, the variety and broad scope of personalities provides endless possibilities for future friendships. Not to mention constant entertainment.

Why does it take HOURS for my computer to load the next page of posts after page 4973 (or whatever) if full. The few times I have posted a topic, I sometimes have to check my topic history just to see if anyone has responded.

20th Anniversay

my partner and i celebrate our 20th anniversary today!.

hmm...a successful relationship outside of the the troof...who would've thought it possible.... anyways - 20 years without a raised voice, a fight, a heated argument; 20 years of mutual respect, even when not in agreement, and getting along; 20 years of love and kindness, and mutual support.. who would've thought a jw and a mormon could both recover and prosper...!.

I Got this Parrot

i got this parrot from a friend who used to be a jw and i don't know if i can keep him (i think he is a he) because he has a nasty habit that i can't break him from.. he is driving me crazy with his nasty habit.. i am having a hard time going to sleep even though i cover his cage at night.. does anyone have any suggestions other than cooking him in the oven?.

i really don't want to get rid of him but something has to be done... soon.. .

Dumped On.

tis the season, so to speak.. this is the time of year the darkness descends like a proclamation of doom, and the light retreats like a rank and filer encountering an actual, thinking, reasoning person during the failed misery.. i don't exactly operate at a hundred percent in the dark and cold, ironic considering where i live.. so one day, we have a relatively clear parking pad, and the next we get a ton of white shit dumped on us.. such lovely fun, shoveling all the global warming from the drive.. got to take the truck out and let it strut it's stuff, that bad ol' aposta-truck was in it's element and unstoppable.

like the unfailing assault of reason on the last tendrils of mind control left in my wetware.. see, i've been thinking again, in spite of all the trouble it's gotten me in before it's a hard habit to break.

i drive around and everybody is getting their christmas on, and i have always felt so smug that i 'knew better'.. see, here is the witless take; you gotta get all vestiges of pagan influence out of your life, no saturnalia, no lupercalia, no all hallows eve, no 'bless you' to a sneeze, no 'pot lucks', bleh blah yadda.. yet, every day of the week and month of the year is named for a pagan deity, the planets are too.

I am also glad to not be in a bug collection anymore. Grateful to JWD, all the resources I have found through here.

I am celebrating Christmas for the first time in 15 years. Feels wierd, like I am force feeding myself good food. Hopefully I will get with the program, and start enjoying it.

i've finished writing my novel (50 thousand words) about my years spent in federal correctional prison when i was an obedient little jw.. the editing and rewriting stage now commences.. i need your help!.

here is how you can help me.. i can't know what an outside mind wants to find out concerning this experience.

i can only conjure up what seems interesting to me.. tell me what you want to know about such a personal experience.. that will give me a checklist to compare to what i've written already.. i may have missed many little details which are very important to a reader.. i may have neglected essential questions which must be answered in order to satisfy the mind.. please offer me your curiousity.. thanking you in advance; i appreciate your taking the time to advance my novel to the finish line.. (i wrote it as a fictional work because i could not honestly write about myself without the distance of this device.. so, i made myself into a character with a different name.. the identity of everyone else is non-fiction.

How isolated were you? What were your thoughts? Was there someone in your environment that challenged your beliefs? Were you righteous in the situation, or horrified by it? What did you think of others there? What were your feelings about those back home? What helped you to emotionally get through it?

They Infiltrate Every Aspect of Ones' Life

after being out of that faith for about 2 years now, i look back and can't believe how they controlled so many aspects of my life.. we let them in and like a deadly disease they just spread and take over.. what we could and couldn't believe, who we could and couldn't associate with, not allowed to play sports, watch what close you were, don't make friends with that one, do this, don't do that, read this, answer this way, sell that mag, contribute to our fund, contribute to the magazines, contribute to building, give us your precious time and you get zippo for it.. and we let them!!!!.

man i'm so happy i'm out - not a day goes by that i don't celebrate my new life, my new friends, my new interests..

What DOES DAing say to a JW?

besty and i are of the opinion that if more people da'd and said they didn't believe in the whole thing, it would send a serious message to jws.

you wouldn't need to actually criticize the organisation, avoiding the 'apostate' label.

we know that for many, fading is the only option right now, because of the pain involved in losing friends and family but, surely, if enough people went down this route, then more would have the courage to do the same?

I didn't know about Little Toe's ending talk. I'll have to look that up. That sounds like the perfect way to go.

I agree a well written letter to a few selected friends would be the only way to have a chance of being heard. No matter what, there is a small window of opportunity before the apostate label appears and the curtains close.

As a successful fader, I am so tired of being viewed as "spiritually weak". I am feeding their superiority complex with my silence. Someday I plan to write a letter, but I also want to tell my father-in-law off. I have to do it at the same time because the later could get me DF'd (only because I would be attacking his particular brand of JW ism). I don't have hope that it would make a difference. I just have to try, for my sake if nothing else.
