on my return today with some lunch delicacies and a grand bottle of gewurztraminer to wash it smoothly, i recalled some events from 35 years back that clearly reflect the apocalyptic mindset of the jdubs in the pre-armageddon years.. the brother of the fellow who brought me this glorious good news that jehovah's witlesses were the 'truth' once took me to his bedroom to show me a small area on his wall that had been repaired by his father recently.
before they replaced the drywall and painted, marvin elected it prudent to prepare a gift kit for that wall that included a copy of the new world translation and a copy of the truth book.
his plan was that in the sudden destruction that was to come in the form of the great tribulation, he might have all his literature confiscated, and he could simply kick the panel out of the wall and be duly served with 'spiritual food from jehovah'.. i must have been correctly impressed with the need to 'heed the day and times and seasons', for a few months later, having left my family home due to 'worldly influence' of my non-witless family and inactive mother, i was speaking with the elderly sister who had offered me sanctuary so that i might 'declare the truth' as a pioneer.
Passivity and lack of skill precluded acting on my pernicious paranoia.
You go, Mum. Haven't been taking lessons from Terry, have you?

i'd have to say mine was when i was at the wee age of 8.. my siblings and i were out swimming with some friends and their parents.
what i remember mostly was that i got seperated very quickly from the rest of the group and drifted into the deeper end.
i found it getting more and more difficult to swim with each passing second.

Editted to add : and no it was not supernatural

david and the kingdom of damascus.
the city of damascus is at least 4000 years old.
it is recorded as being conquered by pharaoh tutmosis in the 15th century bc and it became the capital of an aramean kingdom from the 11th century bc.
This is what I love about JWD. Here is a sincere thread to help us, and for the most part, there is no
flaming of comments, but actual contributions. The occasional flame only helps us to decide what to
think about the other comments.
I second that emotion. If there can be no free flow of information, then nothing else is left but, to borrow a term from WTWizard, stagnation.
That's where the WTS made its most egregious error. You simply CANNOT stifle individual thought and expression without serious repercussions.
I enjoy being here. The "deep" threads such as this one, and the "fluff" threads - they all serve a purpose in our journey out of mind control.

So many of you held at gunpoint!
What are some of the reasons?
R.F.
I was robbed at gunpoint in 1975, but for some reason it didn't scare me too badly. I was working at a teeny tiny bakery and a young thug needed Xmas money I suppose. I was so hyped up with the Paradise hope, that I was thinking of what an experience to tell at the meeting! I was so foolish then!

i've been on the board for quite a while now and was wondering, what do my fellow jwdr's do for work, employment or career?
me, i'm in probably one of the most hated careers in america right now.
(not gonna tell you what it is either) but how about you, what do you do to earn a little coin?.
I work for law enforcement; misdemeanor warrant section. I know all the dirt on everybody.

I don't think i've run any faster than that ever in life.
I KNOW I haven't. The whole community denounced the boy's actions, however. That made me feel somewhat better.

The scariest experience in my life was being attacked by a huge dog when I was 8 years of age. I attended a little two-room country school where grades 1-3 were in one room and 4-6 in the other.
There was an older boy there who disliked me intensely. He had an ugly, yellow dog named Jack who shared his dislike of me. One day I had to go to this boy's grandma's house on an errand. He took advantage of the opportunity to sic Jack on me.
I ran away as fast as my little legs could carry me, screaming to beat the band! As I ran, I could feel Jack's hot breath on my legs and hear his snarls. I ran across a field, over a fence, into the woods. My only thought was to get away!
Jack must have tired of the sport after a while, because he gave up the chase. My big sister, hearing the ruckus, came to fetch me home. To this day, I am terrified of dogs.
